Ordering many dolls at once?

Nov 29, 2007

    1. Since I'm only 16 and I only get paid a little bit to come into school every week it's one doll at a time for me.....:sweat but my sister and I have ordered our first dolls at the same time. I think it's nice to get multiple dolls at once, especially if you intend to write about them, because then they can 'bond' with you and each other and you can get a dynamic going.
From a non-writing point of view I think there'd probably be a kind of struggle for attention and sharing it out between both/all of the dolls but that may just help in the formation of their 'personalities'....however I've never bought a doll before so I could be utterly wrong :sweat

      Sophie.

    2. I personally think it depends how you choose your dolls. I tend to have a character in mind and then find a doll to 'fit'. A lot of other people wait for the doll to arrive, and then wait for the doll to tell them about themselves. The latter method could be a problem with multiple dolls, 'cause you'd be trying to listen to too many at once :)

    3. I don't have a problem with other people doing it, especially since I'm doing it myself. ^^ The characters I have in mind for the dolls I'm saving for have a yin-yang relationship - they're opposites. So it would be a much larger benefit to my concept and their own bond that they arrive together.

And I've decided to do it with the rest of the dolls I want, too, unless they're meant to be by themselves - it's just a lot more convenient to have two at a time if there are other dolls on my wishlist that they're going to interact with.

    4. i think it's better to get two at a time, especially if your current family is one size and your new doll is another size ... in my personal experience i've found it more fun to have 2 dolls of the same size so that they can interact more easily (not that different dolls can't - but somehow it's more fun for me). But i also like having "twins" and siblings:

i've had a doll that was conjoined twins: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109709&highlight=siamese

a pair of Soos [DES and AES]: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48922&highlight=siamese

and my many Bahas came pretty much at once. so i really like having two dolls of the same type at once. it didn't effect my bonding - i'd say it helped with bonding.

lol, and i have a pair of Rosen Lied dolls on order now ::grin::

    5. Well I have the money to order 3 or 5 doll at a time, but my mom is like, another toy???? she calls toys all my entire collection, I collect Sailor Moon stuff, and anime resin figures...

I had to sell some of my Sailor Moon collections so my mom doesnt scold me. I guess I have to get a job soon so she wont yell at me again about my account balance.

My dad doesnt scold me about my "toys" because some how he prefers me having so many dolls than boyfriends:lol: and not spending my money in alcohol and drugs;) .

This thread suits me a little.... last year I order my homme Ducan in Octuber and arrives the 25th December, by mid December I had bought CP El second hand,I had order DOI Luke in the second day of the Event, and now I had order two puki puki, oohhh that was yesterday. but I will part with my El's body, I love his face so much. my mom doesnt know I order Luke:sweat

All of you who can order many dolls at a time, do it, unless your babies get jealous and throw your computer out of the window:o

    6. I can't really think of any other reasons, aside from the bonding issues. I bought my MNF Soo way too soon after I bought my DZ Mo. Because of that, I never really bonded with him.

So... I guess that's really the only concern. If you don't see that as a concern though, then by all means, get both. ^^

    7. My problem with bringing more than one home at once is generally getting bodies for them rather than anything to do with bonding since I have pretty solid ideas about a doll before I go through with a purchase so I've never really had any issues with bonding.
While I've never brought two whole dolls home at once I have a couple of times now had either a couple of heads, or a full doll plus a head arrive at the same time, two of those heads are still floating.
I've gone one better this time though =/ I've got one head on the way and I'm about to order my next full doll, since he's a special he'll come with two heads + the event head so I'm going to have four heads arriving at roughly the same time despite promising myself I would make sure my current floating heads had bodies before I ordered another... I guess I fail at that.

I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing home more than one at a time as long as you can afford it and honestly fail to see how this could be immoral or unethical to do so (ugh...seriously, what is it with people superimposing morals and ethics onto the most trivial things in debate threads?). People have different buying preferences... some wait 6 months or longer between dolls others pretty much buy one a month or bring home a few at a time. I don't really see what there is to debate about that.

    8. i think it's probably better to space them out, that being said, no issues with buying many at the same time, especially with limiteds etc?

    9. I dont order them all at one ...but they ALWAYS turn up all at once!

yesterday I had BambieCronie , Elf Doona , a Dollzone Rabbit and a Lusis all arrive

now these were orderd months apart ...Elf on Layaway
Lusis ...that long ago I forget !

so they all turn up ..togeather ...its like Christmas all over again!
well Easter ....they are all Bunnies ...exept Lusis

    10. Eh. I've had two dolls arrive at once before (my DZs, my Teds) and I have no problem. I also don't think it's "hard" for original characters to get along with tribute dolls, either. I have both, and since it's only MY imagination that can get in the way, everyone's part of a happy family. I simply don't see why a lot of these "problems" are actually problems, because it all counts on the owner's imagination, and hey, if you want something to be a certain way then make it so, you know?

I suppose it helps that I tend to have established personalities and whatnot thought up for my dolls. Before they ever get here (and usually before I buy them, too) I have figured out who they are and how they'll relate. So even if two arrive at once and I start bonding with one over the other, the other will just hang out til I get to them, because it's not like they're lost or anything, they've already been worked into the gang.

    11. I had just bought my very first bjd, a Souldoll Arhanian - when some evil person - uh, kindly enabler directed me to the Limhwa website, and before I knew it I had me a half-elf as well, within 48 hours of buying Emory Cam. I don't think it's affected my 'relationship' with either one: they're BOTH spoiled rotten, even tho the Limhwa hasn't even arrived yet! But then, so was he. I think if anything I'll do even better with both of them once they're together, because then I can plan their outfits (I mainly like making doll costumes, jewelry, etc.) to be in sync, sort of. For example, I'm planning historic Russian court costumes - the Boyar and Boyarina - as well as Louis XIV court costumes - it will be interesting to see if hers is as frilly as his! Shades of Monsieur, Louis' brother!

It all depends on yourself and your circumstances. Why should one size (or one way) fit all? Some people can only bond one at a time, others can handle more.

    12. Hi everyone, I'm new here and new to BJDs so I'm in the process of ordering my dolls. I like the Dolls Town dolls and was thinking of getting one 13 yo Ariel (I love the one with the modern, shaggy red hair) but now I think I'll get two because it seems like they're hard to come by. I'd like the 13 yo Elysia too. I'm going to sell most of the other dolls I've collected and keep my collection of BJDs very small since I like to make clothes for my dolls and with too many, I can't do them justice. I love the detail I see in the outfits everyone has for their dolls.

    13. I don't know... it's always up to the person, but just going out and spending a lot of money on dolls doesn't seem... wise to me. It's mostly "bonding". Most people see BJDs as something special that you need to get the time to
"know", and having many of one thing at once may actually overwhelm a person (not everyone, but probably me XP). At least I wouldn't recommend buying more than one doll for your FIRST, but after that then.... who's to say?

    14. ive had 2 dolls and one head all arrive around the same time late last month, and am waiting one to arrive any day now. i guess i didnt really think about it. i spend time with all of them in their own way, theyre all at differant 'stages' of being completed so its not like i have issues bonding.

and orangey34 i see what you mean but these are all my first dolls. but at the same time ive been in this hobby over a year and nothing about them is 'new' to me in that respect; i can handle having 3 dolls around the same time. really thats imposing how you feel; its differant for everyone. and as a money issue i have my own reasons for being able to do that (birthday money coming late/christmas/work/more money coming in) considering im a student with nothing else to save for right now and very few possessions everything about spending that money was wise to me LOL :)

its also about when the chances come up, like someone else said. i had a somi offerd to me and i couldnt pass the chance :)

    15. I think it depends on the person.
Personally, the problem I have is not with the doll... it's with the money XDD I don't like spending so much money at a single time, maybe because I'm a student and I don't have much money and it is VERY difficult so save it XD...
But, if there is a day when I have ENOUGH money to buy two of them, and I don't have to pay anything else in a long time, yes, I would buy them at the same time, I wouldn't mind at all

    16. I like that method too. It saves me from overspending as well

    17. I'm not able to do it for money reasons - but if I could, I would definitely buy my first two dolls together. They've been picked out for a few months and are intended to be a couple for one another based off of two characters of mine and a friend's, who are a couple :) So for my means and purposes if finances weren't an issue it would make sense to buy them together.

If I were not looking with characters in mind and were instead trying to get into the hobby (who wouldn't want to? :D) I would buy one at a time. That just seems wiser to me, especially with your first doll, to let yourself bond with him or her and also decide how much time, energy and money you want to invest on expanding your doll family in the future. ^^

    18. I ordered mine barely three days apart XD
I figure it will still give me time to bond with my first before the second arrives, and the first would be less indignant about my bonding with the second. (I sound like a crazy lady)
I just have so many creative ideas for them - anticipating and getting them both just seems more enjoyable to me! I also haven't overextended myself financially in getting them, so that won't damper my fun!

    19. My only issue with getting more than one doll at a time is money ^^;; These dolls are like crack though! And it's hard not to want to just buy so many at once you can swim through them, lol! I got my Ren on Dec. 18 and then on Christmas, I got Shun. Because Shun was blank when I got him, I spent more time with him so I feel like I haven't bonded with Ren as much as I would have liked. Also, I don't feel that they have bonded... and I know when Jun (DOC Kirill) arrives (which hopefully the beginning of Feb!! :D), I'll be ignoring Ren and Shun for awhile... haha. Actually, I feel like Jun arriving will help me and my boys bond because I'll feel like I have my full family already... and I swore Jun was going to be the last for awhile... well... I'm already in process of getting a girl ^^;;;;; NOW the family will be complete... right?? I realllly hope I can hold off after I get her. There isn't enough clothes to go around and I don't have much time to make any right now X_X;; have to work all the time to afford the babes!

    20. If you have the money then go for it! If you buy two dolls then they can keep each other company just in case you know one of them won't bond with the ones you currently own...I find that to be my rationalization for when I buy two BJDs at a time. Some situations kind of call for you to buy them at the same time. The way they're personally connected or the avalabitly of them can be an issue if their not around for a long time or they sell out easily.
