Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. owning the not so popular molds

Jul 18, 2009

    1. Well I own a dbdoll Piaoran and am yet to see any owner pics of him that aren't my own. The only reason I haven't posted any pictures of him in the last few months is because he's been out for face up. The moment I get him back Im'ma gonna spam dA with him all over again cos I love him to bits lol

    2. I've got what seems to be an 'unpopular' doll, a Limhwa ForYou, and I absolutely love her. (I just don't understand why she wasn't successful, especially now that I see the Limhwa Leda is seemingly a hit- go figure! I got lucky and bought her from the Marketplace.) Since I rather love taking pictures of her and putting together outfits for her, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't put up some gallery threads now and then. If the response is lukewarm, so what? If I get just one comment from someone saying they like her (and in my two threads I've gotten at least three responses to that tune), I'm happy. n_n

Just because I've got an uncommon doll doesn't mean I disdain all popular dolls, though. XD (I have a Pukipuki Cupid and plan on getting a Minifee Miyu as well as a Zaoll Luv, all fairly popular molds.)

    3. I have fairly popular molds, but I wouldn't worry about it if I had not so popular ones. As long as you like it, it shouldn't matter what others think of them. I know I wouldn't care, as long as the doll satisfies me then I'm happy.

    4. The thing I like about popular molds is that there are more owner pictures to look at when I'm trying to see the doll from more angles and wig/face-up/outfit combinations, but I don't think I'd ever consider popularity the reason to get a doll. I don't see many Dollmore Aidan around, but I still got one.

I'm going to post my dollies everywhere because I love them. X3 Can't find other people who like uncommon dolls if you don't let them know about it, right??? @_@' I know I consider some dolls pretty on account of the owner photos rather than the company photos.

    5. I wouldn't say any of my dolls are unpopular; although, my B-el is the least popular of the Unoa molds. It doesn't matter to me if I own the only one on the forums or if mine is just a face lost in a crowd. I love them just the same.

My only peeve about unpopular dolls is that you often have to search far and wide for any pictures of them. For instance, I'm still looking for photos of Souldoll tan Phillipia especially with the default faceup, a FL seal fp and a DZ Lily. I can only ever find maybe one or two owners of any of them.

    6. To be honest I think all of my dolls are rather unpopular! Im with Aernath in the I love Iple Soo Ri Boat! I have two one normal one dreaming and I love them beyond anything else! And I post them in the galleries even if no one looks. I Love them and I'm proud to own them.

The same can be said about my other dolls, DoD Shall, Iplehouse freezia, Oasisdoll Yaoyue, and buddydoll April (of which I think Ive only seen two. Mine and one other O_O talk about obscure)

the only slightly popular doll I own is a migidoll Ryu and I never take pics of him O_o How odd is that?

But I do agree with the opinion that unpopular dolls are harder to find owner pics of. Which is sad because sometimes the company faceups just dont do the sculpt justice!

    7. aww! I love the dolls that aren't always the popular ones. Even if they don't get the best reponses. As long as I love my doll I do not mind. He's special to me and that's why it doesn't bother me. Also, if I could get others to start liking my doll and the mold then that'd make me happy. Or to show them how beautiful the mold I have makes me happy. Plus, I want to see different ones and not always the same mold. ahah

    8. Then I have you to thank. I'm waiting to get my wishlist dolls, one of which is Soo Ri. You're making the saving period loads easier.

    9. Some of the dolls I have are not the most popular I guess. I don't count my LE's because, well... you see thosealot really! But my Dollmore models both are molds I've not seen around very often. Hanoel Moon, and Ha Yarn cho. I know there are other owners! but they just don't seem to be very popular! And then I have two floating heads both are Spiritdoll Abies. They were discontinued, but prior to that you never saw them on the boards at All...now I've seen a few floating about. Some really gorgeous ones but they were never very popular...and now probably never will be!

    10. I don't base my dolly decisions on popularity alone. But, there are less popular sculpts that I like, but do not have due to lack of owner pictures. When I just started in the hobby, I based my decisions mostly on company photos and ended up with dolls that are just not to my taste (lovely dolls, but not for me). Now, I do extensive research before buying and sometimes that means prioritizing the more popular sculpts simply because I am able to see many different pictures and confirm to myself that I do in fact like the doll.

Just recently, though, I did make a purchase without having seen many owner pictures - Rosette Muse Marguerite. First, there's just not many pictures of Marguerite around, as she is not as popular as Fir or Camellia. Second, it seems that no one has the Muse body yet (at least I wasn't able to find owner pictures of it). So, I bought this doll mostly on faith, which I promised myself I will never do :D I am very excited to see her, and I will definitely post pictures of her once she's here.

I wish that people with the less popular sculpts would post pictures more often - it will help a lot of us who fall in love with the less popular sculpts to make a decision on them.

    11. I have a less popular doll now - an Island Doll Apollo. All of the Island Doll dolls seem to be hard to find around here, which is annoying because I do want more pictures of them and their resin colors. The company seems to take pretty good pics though. I'll just have to post pics of him myself.

    12. lol I have an AOD Chi, which seems to be labled as a 'starter doll' and everyone seems to have so I don't really have that problem. But I'm waiting on a Doll Leaves Xavor and Jax and I like looking up owner pics but since DS is only a year old it's really hard to find user pics. I guess my point is if you enjoy taking pics of your dolls then why not share them? Someone might be looking for a pic of one to see what people have done with it or to see how they pose or whatever. Just ignore the negative people. There are some sculpts I don't care for personally, but I would never say so to someone that loves that sculpt. That's just bad manners. It's really not that hard to keep your opinion to yourself if it might hurt someone's feelings. It's not like you're pushing others to buy the same doll whether they like it or not. You're just sharing your love for the sculpt. There's nothing wrong with that.

    13. They all need love even if they aren't popular as others :D

    14. For me, I'm actually shocked by this thread XD
I don't want a popular sculpt. I really don't want one that's everywhere, and that's one of the reasons (aside from simply getting bored of him) I didn't buy KDF Bory after all. There are ten of him even in the small Finnish community. On the other hand, Souldoll Lily.C's I've seen maybe 5 on the net, and I'm really happy that I'm getting a rare one. When I saw how many people have SD Star, I was a little disappointed of the fact that I'm getting a more popular one.
That being said, I'd never leave some doll because it's popular. The important thing is loving them!
As for finding pics, I know all your pain! ;_____;` I didn't find any makeup-less one of Lily.C! I'll take one the first thing when I get her, and post it on Flickr.

    15. I don't disdain popular sculpts but I wouldn't really want one. I mean do you want to have one of 500 dolls or one of five? So far I have a Resin Soul Mu which I swear has to be the least common Resin Soul doll, and an Angelsdoll Michael who is one of five or seven bought based on the numbers in the Angelsdoll waiting room. I even have an off-topic BJD on layaway who I just plain can't post here, but I love him. Loving them is what's important.

    16. I don't really know what is popular or not in the hobby right now. I'm pretty out of it like that. Regardless, I don't get why having an unpopular doll would be desireable beyond the logic of "I like this doll so I will buy it"? It's really about what the owner does with the doll, not the doll itself, in my opinion!

    17. I tend to like what I like. I have never been a follower of trends, so a sculpt being popular does not make me want it any more. It also doesn't make me like it any less if I do indeed like it. I will admit to occasionally tipping just a tad the other direction however. Sometimes the fact that a sculpt is less popular can make me like it a little more...partly for the underdog factor.

I have noticed that in general I tend to like sculpts and looks that are not very commonly praised or purchased. Just an observation about my own tastes.

    18. Salvagore, for me, I love being weird and unusual. I don't choose my dolls based on that, though, it's quite the opposite: I'm proud of the fact that I happen to like "unpopular" molds. But I'd still buy my Bory if I hadn't gotten bored of him.
In the end I think it's just the appeal of feeling your doll is unique. ? Popular dolls can be really unique too, though. <3

    19. I certainly wouldn't bother about what any one else thought. If you love the doll that that's all that counts. I woudl try not to get down if I were you with little or no response to posts, you should just enjoy your dolls and take all the pictures you want

    20. 5 out of 7 from my dolls are what you can consider unpopular. I didn't choose them because they were unpopular though, I chose them because they are special, peculiar and very odd and I love that. Many people find some of the molds I own ugly, and that's fine. I just like to take them and make them purrrty.
Nah, if I picked my dolls based on their popularity I wouldn't have a Littlefee Ante, one of the (if not the) most popular littlefees and maybe even yo-sd.
