owning the not so popular molds

Jul 18, 2009

    1. I own a Soom Super Gem Covell from when Soom started releasing Young Artist sculpts. He was so unpopular that when he was released, it took him months to sell out. Released in June, I bought mine in October and there had still been plenty of them at the time. I've seen all of four of them on doa - mine included, one of which passed through the market to a new home a while ago.

I have to say though, I absolutely adore him. :3

    2. Behh, who cares? I currently own a semi-popular mold and a mold I've only seen about 3 or 4 of on the boards. Doesn't mean I like my uncommon/less popular boy less than my girl. Don't worry about feeling like your dolls are crap; they aren't, even if some people don't like the mould, they're your doll and special to you. Isn't that all that matters?

    3. I wish people would share their uncommon dolls on the internet and everywhere they can! I'm wary of buying a doll that doesn't have a lot of owner pictures - or at least good pictures. Makes me nervous and deters me from buying it.

So just remember, though you may not get a big response now, someone shopping around will thank you for it someday!

    4. I have run across this problem with owning certain molds. Especially my Volks Kurt, Napidoll Aesh, and the Napidoll Ruber. Even my Remi/Colin was unpopular at one point. And I have 6 of them.
Do I feel offended? Nope. I would feel offended if someone said I should throw it in the trash can, if they don`t like it, well, it`s not their taste.
I take pictures of those not-so-popular molds, since there`s always going to be someone looking for owner photos of them.

    5. I think that most molds were unpopular/unknown at the beginning, and they become popular while their owners persisted in loving them and taking pictures of them despite their "un-popularness". Besides, if you like your doll that is all that matters. What is anybody's business what you like, and is there such a big difference *to you mainly* if you have an OOAK doll or you are the only person in the world who bought a certain non-limited mold?
No difference imo, as long as you enjoy your doll.

    6. I own a Resinsoul Mu doll. I've seen very few on the forums - maybe four at most - and many have a different head on his body because people find the mold of his head ugly. Most of the comments I've seen on his mold are quite negative, especially when it comes to his head and the fact that he's a Resinsoul doll. To me, though, he's the prettiest girl at the prom. The default pictures retailers use of him don't do him justice at all. He looks very handsome in person and the more work I put into him, the better he gets. I haven't posted any pictures because he's not 100% finished yet, but when he is, I will, and if I've done a good job, maybe his sculpt will become more popular. It doesn't really matter to me. It's kind of nice not having just another ________.

    7. I dont have any dolls yet but I dont think theres anything wrong with owning an unpopular mold, after all, you're not buying the doll for others to enjoy, youre buying it for your own :)

    8. I own one unpopular mold, I haven't seen many GD Goth Lucy's on the board, less than 10 I remember, but I love her ^^
I don't feel offended at all by the fact that she's not so popular, after all she is a gore mod and not to everyone's taste.

    9. I know how you feel. I had very hard time to chose which of the brand dolls I want to get. I have the brand is all the matter and it had to be very expensive。it take me over a month to settle which I'm going to get until my friend say to me that it didn't matter what brand or price and the matter of quality if the dolls and if you trully love them

    10. I can't find *any* pictures of the dolly I just ordered, but I'm sure I'll love her just the same. All that matters is that you love your doll. :)

    11. I have a doll that few people have. It's very hard to find pics of this mold.
But I like it, because it's kinda good that my doll it's almost exclusive.^^
And I love it very much. :)

    12. I don't know if my dolls are popular mold or not. But it doesn't matter. I love them in the way they are and don't think that other comments about how popular they are would bothering me.
I have my own reason for buying them because I love how they look like. Popular or not isn't my problem ^-^

    13. All of my sculpts are really not the most "liked" by the consumers, but i love them to bits. And i will admit that sometimes i just don't want to look at them because well, harsh things people say sometimes. but after you get through all that i think its much more easier to love your dolls and always take pictures of them!

My frist doll was AOD liu Yin, and not very many people at all like her. Even when i got her i didnt like her. but after trying to sell her and being conflicted on what to do about her i fianally love her to bits! shes my favorite!

Course thats probably not answering your questions eh? well Don't worry what other people think. you paid for the doll, you love the doll, and those people should get over it!

    14. I have Angelsdoll Cian CAT Avatar. And I know only about one other here on DoA. And I never seen pictures on internet. But I dont understand, why he is so unpopular. He is soooo gorgeous.

    15. I think what 's important to me is that whether i like him. ,which is nothing to do with the popularity.

    16. Most of my dolls are kind of weird. My favorite, an Aoi Tuki/Volks hybrid is... lol, really strange. I probably have the only one like that. I don't think having a strange doll makes me special or anything. I just buy/put together dolls that I find aesthetically pleasing. With the many, many headmolds out there, body sculpts, people's abilities to customize- there's an infinite number of combinations to create just one doll. So, even if a sculpt is popular, there's a really low chance of two being just alike.
Now, the one problem for dolls like my Aoi Tuki-bodied girl, my Minoru Juniors, and my Chibi Unoa: finding clothes can be a pain! And my RML-headed doll, since it's an artist sculpt head, it's hard finding wigs and eyes that suit her just right.

    17. I have a tendency to like dolls that are not the most popular on the market, but for me this is OK because I feel it makes them a little more unique. On the other hand though, it's kind of sad that there aren't enough owners around for some of the dolls to have databases set up, or waiting rooms and etc.... The doll I just ordered has none of these things on here. ^^; Part of the fun of dolls is sharing after all.

As far as responses go on photo postings. I think you just have to realize that whereas 100 people may view your pictures, only a handful at best are going to respond. It's not because they don't like it, but they just wanted to view and get out, or they couldn't think of anything to say. It's the same way with everything else on the internet whether it be a webcomic, DA Gallery or what have you. Your own popularity can often help elicit more response, and you also have to remember that you will get more responses if you spend the time to reply to responses as well, since people don't like talking to brick walls. ;)

Anyway who cares whether your doll is not popular, post it anyway! You may not realize it, but those posting are helpful to potential buyers who want to see how the doll will look made up in different ways. In the long run you are only helping draw more attention to an unknown sculpt. :)

    18. I own a Luts Kid Delf Jeong, and she is no where. seriously, there are like only 5 or so on the board. She was apparently so unpopular that even Luts discontinued her a few years ago...i first saw her in 2005 and lusted over her and then in late 06 or early 07, i believe, luts stopped selling her. i finally found her [head only] for sale in the marketplace in 08 and snatched her up! I just now got her a body this year and she is so beautiful to me. i am so happy she's complete now and I dont care that very few poeple like her sculpt because i bought her for ME, not for them :)

    19. I have both popular and less popular molds, but I have found pictures of the same mold from other owners in each case. But let's face it - just as an example - the chance to see a Luts KDF Bory on the net is about 30 times greater than to see an AoD Qing. That doesn't in any way keep me from posting as many pictures of Qing as I do of Bory... I rarely post any in both cases  I love them both, though. I think popularity criteria shouldn't change our love for our dolls. They are ours for a good reason - because we chose them. And there are certainly also other people who like the "unpopular" molds. So pictures of these dolls might not appeal to everybody, but still be interesting for many.

There are really people who don't like SDC Kurt? I think this mold is really pretty :D

    20. i love owning the not-popular ones! that way i'm always the unique one during any group meetups lol
ppl are always surprised to see my doll XD
