1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

owning the not so popular molds

Jul 18, 2009

    1. Well, I kind of like tricking people (not intentionally, it just happens, lol) - I have a few molds wich really don't get as much love as others, but I turn them into dolls which people admire and adore, always in surprise they'd never expect this doll to be able to look like mine. And despite me collecting dolls for my personal satisfaction only, it always makes me giggle when I see another surprised comment.

    2. I've got a few sculpts that are very unpopular and a few that are very popular. I've noticed that the "popular" sculpts do get a lot more attention online that doesn't make me love the less popular ones anymore. In fact my favourite doll in my collection is a less than popular one.

This just makes me want to post her more and spoil her and share her online. The greatest feeling is when I can make someone else appreciate them :)

    3. I have an older doll that no one seems to know or like, SD 13, LE Doll or Star -- Spangled Doll, which was an attempt to get an "American" BJD. All the feedback on this site, DOA, that is, is negative. I am going to get her a face up to give her a softer look.

    4. i'm not sure if Musou's mold (doll love chi) is unpopular or just newer... but i've not seen anyone else with him yet D: even on google!

    5. I kind of go out of my way to get unloved or even hated sculpts. Maybe because I'm sort of a hipster? I just like taking them and making them into something that makes people reconsider the sculpt. I recently bought a dz mr.bunny. There seems to be no photos for him. So I'm excited to be one of the first.

    6. I don't really mind as long as I like the sculpt. Who cares if its unpopular? I know that my first doll is very unpopular (DF-H An Ping) as there are hardly any pictures of him online. :)))

    7. Probably about 1/3 of the dolls I own are so unpopular apparently that when I went looking for owner pics I couldn't hardly find any. I got them anyway. I don't care. Obviously something appeals to me and that's all that matters. I'm the one who has to live with them after all...

    8. I know what you think, most people only look at the popular sculpts because they want to have one or maybe own one. For an example: minifee Chloe. She is one of the most popular sculpts of Fairyland because she is very pretty. But it's a fact that almost all Fairyland-lovers have a Chloe in their collection. There's nothing wrong with that, absolutely not but because they know the sculpt, they look at other Chloe's earlier than they look at a not so popular sculpt

    9. Popularity doesn't bother me at all. I only purchase dolls that I like, popular or not!

    10. I don't have any dolls at the moment so I can't really add from an owner point of view.
But I found that the sculpts I want to buy didn't seem to be as poplar as others. I guess it doesn't matter as long as you like them.
You don't buy dolls for anyone else other than yourself, but I can see how a lack of response might be disappointing.
I guess it would only be a big deal if you wanted to sell them! (:

    11. I have some not very popular molds, because I like them and I really don't like a lot of popopular dolls. It's OK, because I buy dolls for myself, no to make somebody jealous or to get respect. Of course the last is very pleasant bonus, but nothing more

    12. I love my doll's sculpt, but he is not very popular. I've only seen one or two other dolls here with the same sculpt. I don't think I've seen people bash a sculpt simply because it's not from a popular company, but it does suck if you want to find what other people have done to this sculpt.

    13. Aside from a few, I really don't know which dolls are popular especially outside of the tiny zone.

    14. Well, I seem to be drawn to the 'unpopular' doll companies, not just sculpts -most of the discussion threads for them are ghost towns, lol! I don't care if a doll is popular, I only get one because I like it.

    15. Both of the dolls I love are unpopular, haha. I've only found 1-2 owner's photos apiece for OM's Lin, and LM's Eden!

    16. I ordered from a not so known company. I felt that they needed more recognition since their dolls are absolutely gorgeous but I find it cool owning a doll from their company as I haven't read about their dolls with a year of researching about bjds. I am a person who goes against the flow and sometimes I find myself liking a doll even if he/she doesn't have any owner pics. I think it'll always be unique to own one.

    17. The majority of my dolls aren't well-known, or they have faded into obscurity. That doesn't bother me; they're mine, after all, and I'm the only one that has to love them. ;)

I don't set out to ever buy based on what's popular or not popular; I buy what I like and I'm always happy. I also should note I rarely share photos online of my dolls because I really just don't care.

I do go to local meets regularly and that's always fun. Most of the time, my dolls don't garner a ton of attention but it doesn't bother me. People have definitely come up and asked about the different sculpts or told me how much they've liked them though, so I don't think that just because a doll is unpopular it won't be appreciated.

    18. Both the dolls I own are "cheaper" and not very "popular" molds. I have a DollLove Ceceila (on a Dollzone body) and an Angel Fantasy Alice, because they aren't as well known and are cheaper I feel I can do wackier stuff with them like mods and stuff which in turn makes them stand out.

    19. I'm of the mindset that I like what I like, regardless of what other people may think of that particular sculpt. It's always nice when you're able to open someone's eyes to a sculpt they may not have considered, but in the end, your dolls are for you, not other people.

    20. I've been out of this hobby for so long that I no longer even know who the popular companies are. Is Soom and Iplehouse still reining? What about Fairyland and Luts? It's hard to want to jump into the popular crowd when you don't know who they are. Maybe the dolls I have now are popular, maybe they still aren't. I don't really know and it doesn't make much of a difference either way. The only real negative I've found is that discussion for them is almost completely nil, which can really put a damper on one's mood when trying to gush about them.
