1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

owning the not so popular molds

Jul 18, 2009

    1. That.

The one I have coming was not the most popular of sculpts (to the point where finding one on the secondhand market is BRUTAL hard because she's been discontinued for years and wasn't popular before that so not all that many were made) but she is gorgeous and I cannot wait to get her in my hot little hands. Of the others -- there was a time when Shiwoo was very popular, but that's kind of gone by the wayside along with the rest of the Delf craze and Elfdolls were never the height of popularity (I think I can count the other Adens on one hand?). But that's fine. I like what I like, and that's all there is to it.

    2. My Yosd girl is an Illusion Spirit Song Xiao. I have never seen an owner photo of that sculpt on-line except for mine =P. It made it a little hard for me when I was deciding to get her because I do love to see all the different iterations of a sculpt before I really decide on it. And for her I just had to hope that she was what I wanted. But I have no regrets at all buying her. She is an amazing doll and super cute in person and very photogenic.

And I've totally done it again because the doll that I am currently waiting for is a Doll Love WenWen which isn't a very popular sculpt I guess because I've only seen a hand full of owner pictures of her. But I like having a sculpt that not a lot of people have.

So really the only down side I can think of for owning a less "popular" doll is that you don't get to see lots of examples of what other people have done with them. I really wouldn't care if someone said "that is an ugly sculpt" about a doll that I owned because as long as I love it that's all that matters.

    3. I have one doll with a small artisan company head(who I had never heard of before I bought him second hand because I wanted the EID body he was on) and while I actually like his face, I feel like I have no one to talk to about him lol. I don't even think anyone else on the forums has one so obviously there's no discussion thread and no one has probably heard of him >.<

*edit* I WAS the only person on DoA with this head sculpt but now I completely resculpted it with epoxy and a dremel and it is no longer even close to the same doll. If I thought finding a discussion thread for him was hard before, now he doesn't fit anywhere lol

    4. We are in this hobby because it makes us happy, so if this sculpt is making you happy and you love it, then you should not worry about opinions of the others, but you should try to spread more of their pics online to show the others how you see this sculpt and how you styled it to show its beauty, specially if its rear to find photos of it on the internet, you might be the reason someone else will fall in love with this sculpt

    5. I think you should focus on enjoying your dolly's and not care what others think. If you love her then she's beautiful and as special as any other doll and deserves every bit of attention as your other dolly's Don't let anyone/anything mess with what you love simply because of the opinion of others or lack of. :)

    6. I sent my sd out for a faceup, hopefully she will look more near the ideal bjd then.

    7. I very much appreciate owners of the more unpopular molds when they put their photos up. I love seeing the diversity! Also as my tastes skew more towards the unpopular molds, I go on full on scavenger hunts to find as many photos of the model are possible. I love to see as many different angles as possible, just so I know my heart is truly set on that doll.

    8. THIIIS!

I can think of several 'unpopular' molds that I truly believe would be more popular if only people took some pretty photos of them! They just need the exposure :)

    9. I own a scuplt I don't see many pictures of myself. (Dollzone Clare) I love her despite her super long legs.

    10. I own a very beautiful doll and a DSLR, although I'm a newbie here I somehow noticed a lack of feedback, I think it's totes impossible to count my doll an 'unpopular' sculpt or my photos 'the worst ever', but I guess this is because I am as usual aloof/unsociable and I too don't compliment on anyone else's photos *shrugs*
Still, I adore my boy and love taking and sharing pictures. And I really enjoy browsing photos of many other dolls on this site, even though I never comment.

    11. I have a crobi lance and hes not too popular (as a boy anyway) its a little annoying when your looking for owner pics and there aren't any but it makes lem just as special to me :)

    12. I'd say, if you love your dolls and want to share them, go ahead! It doesn't matter what other people think of them, after all you were the one who liked them enough to buy them. Putting up pictures and the like just lets other people get a good look, and if they don't care much for them, there are other places to visit. Otherwise, if a more active response is what you're looking for (speaking theoretically here, without firsthand knowledge), maybe you just need to get creative. Work on different techniques for photographing, write interesting photostories, or dress them up in a way that will make people stop and take a look. Couldn't hurt to try, right?

    13. I own the unpopular Senior Delf Zed. He had such pretty pictures but seen no other pictures! He should be home tomorrow but if the mail comes before I get off work, he'll come home Saturday.

    14. I really like seeing different sculpts! I think it can get a bit boring when the popular aesthetic is all you see.
And just as many people have said in this thread: the fact that you like them is the most important.

    15. As a newbie I have no clue yet which sculpts are popular or not, and honestly I don't really care as I only go for the dolls that speak to me... popular or not. ;)

    16. I really love the Souldoll Soulkid Yelena. Though I've only seen maybe, two other photoshoots of her. It's sad to see that she's maybe not so popular since I'd love to see everyone's own versions of her! At the same time it's kind of exciting being one of the few people to like or own a doll. It'd feel almost as if it was made for you!

    17. Owning these dolls, I wouldn't be upset or anything. What I dislike about loving the unpopular molds (because I only have one doll but the ones I like are always very unpopular) is the fact that when I'm looking for owner pictures, I never happen to find many :(

Whenever I get to own them I'll make sure to post tons of pictures of them even if they don't get much attention, simply because I know there's people out there trying to find pictures and hardly ever find them. To me it's not important if I get attention on a picture or anything, what makes me happy is when someone actually notices or finds my picture helpful or something.

So people with unpopular molds out there, post, post, post! :abow:

    18. The problem with unpopular sculpts, for me, isn't that I feel weird when others don't like them. It's that when I finally had the money to buy a bjd, my grail had been discontinued and since there were no owner photos ANYWHERE I had to conclude she was unpopular. I still can't find many owner photos of her, but luckily when I posted a WTB thread in the MP I was contacted by not one, but two people who had one for me. Believe me, when you want an Angel Elf Soo, or ANY Soo, all you can find is Dark Elf Soo.

    19. The only time I regret that several of my dolls are not popular molds is that there's no lively Discussion Threads for them. My Minifees, as an example, have a DoA discussion thread that moves like lightning and is always full of people chatting about their own Minifees. Conversely, there's nowhere to share my Copernica because she's "just" a freebie DIM 2009 "Event Head", even if I love her dearly.

    20. My molds are very uncommon and it is hard for me to resell them :(
