1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

owning the not so popular molds

Jul 18, 2009

    1. This is exactly it! Sometimes it can be quite lonely liking the unpopular molds, or even just a plain unpopular/discontinued company. Sometimes it's nice having the opportunity to talk with other collectors, and since many collectors prefer (or at least seem to) to chat with others who also own dolls from the same company as their own dolls, it can really make one feel like an outcast.

Btw, Who doesn't love DiM dolls! ;)

    2. I think having a not so popular mold is nice! Your doll is more one of a kind and rare!

    3. I have a Dollgru head and I LOVE the fact that there's not many of them. Although that's more due to it being an independent company and not because it's unpopular. Knowing that there's only a small number of others out there makes it feel much more special.

    4. I say it doesn't matter if the sculpt is popular or not, if you wanna post pictures then you should post!

    5. I buy what I like and take pictures of all my dolls; it doesn't matter if something is popular or not. It's nice seeing diversity in the hobby, and I love seeing other sculpts even if they are not well-known or popular.

    6. I show my dolls anyway. I don't really bother, whether they are popular or not. At last there are always people who like them. Not so patiently, as I do. Nevertheless.

    7. I've got popular and unpopular dolls, so I guess I have the best of both worlds... I can find discussions--mostly for the company, since individual scupts really won't have busy threads, no matter what...

But some companies aren't so popular, either. However--the main thing is whether YOU like your own doll or not. Sculpt and company doesn't matter. Most people can't identify them by looking alone, anyway.

Here's one of my rarer dolls: Ramcube Black Leopard Kyle. I've only heard of one other on DoA, but haven't ever seen it posted... I think he's cool, of course, or I wouldn't have him. He's definitely different!

    8. I like seeing owner pictures of popular sculpts but I dont care to buy them unless I really fall in love with one. I am more attractes to ones you dont see much of. That way I dont get bored of them :)

    9. I love seeing owner photos of not so popular sculpts! I feel it exposes me more to some really neat dolls that I'd likely end up liking and wanting.

    10. I think I'm very fortunate, I made most of my decisions about what I liked in sculpts and companies way before I found the community. So I was completely ignorant as to what was considered trendy, or popular. It's 50/50 for me with popularity/what I like. So not knowing what others people liked meant I was completely free of that influence. I don't think I would have ended up with the doll I love the most if I paid any attention (or had any knowledge) of what the BJD community thought. But now I know a little better, I hope I can withstand that influence. I don't go out of my way to know what is trendy, but I see what is posted here and I get some idea, and I'm going to try to ignore that and still go with what I like.

    11. i think having your own doll thats is uncommon and unpopular is super nice, actually. i think its what makes you even more diverse in an already diverse hobby! :)

    12. Even though my doll isn't from the more popular BJD companies, I still post pics of her on my tumblr account and I always get good responses despite her unpopular sculpt.

    13. I do not think anyone should own dolls according to what other people like or do not like or own or do not own. If we enjoy having our dolls then if they are "popular" or not should not matter.

    14. I don't care if someone doesn't like a doll sculpt I own. I'm not in the hobby to be popular or get self-gratification from other people's adoration. If someone makes postive remarks about a doll you own then that's always nice but it doesn't trouble me if people don't approve of my doll sculpt choices. I have owned doll sculpts in the past that are very uncommon and aren't made by the popular companies/brands but in my opinion they were just as good quality as the dolls I've owned by more well known companies. I enjoy looking at rarer sculpts, the only downside is that if you're interested in a doll that's scarce there will be far less owner photographs out there to refer to so you've often just got to take the plunge & hope you'll still like it in person.

    15. From what I've seen, I ordered a sculpt that isn't the most popular, and I'm feeling the pull to order the one that is very popular. I'm just going to enjoy the one I receive and go from there. I like that there is a big variety of dolls for everyone!

    16. From what I can tell, the sculpt I went with for my first doll's in that place where she's not super common but also not super obscure - I've seen a other owner photos of her floating around but the discussion thread's not as lively as other companies! She's absolutely perfect and don't regret ordering her for a moment, but I have to admit sometimes I'm a little disappointed I don't have a place to chat more and browse other peoples' owner photos, since I love meeting new people.

    17. Yes, it's sad sometimes that peopke don't appreciate the ones we love. I just mostly ignore people the low responses people give my doll. It doesn't bother me as much anymore. :) i love my doll and that's all that matters. Hihi

    18. As long as the doll makes me happy, I don't care if it's a popular sculpt or not. I think the only time it might be a problem is if I don't care for the doll and I can't find anyone interested in buying it if I choose to sell it.

    19. Yeah i have the same mindset. ^.^

    20. I don't think any of the dolls I own at the moment are particularly popular (then again none of them are super unpopular either, mostly just medium), but I've never had a negative response to that. People don't often gush over them the way they might a Minifee, but a lot of people on Instagram are fond of them and regularly leave compliments for them ~ I'd say try not to mind what other people think. Or be like me and think "Ha I'm such a cool hipster for not owning an FL Chloe" (but don't do that it's really stupid and pretentious, don't be like me lmaoo)
