owning the not so popular molds

Jul 18, 2009

    1. I don't think my ShinyDoll Akali is popular. But I love my doll more than any other doll on DOA. When I look at her I understand...yes she is a bit strange and unusual. She lacks the ever popular beautiful huge eyes etc... yet I love her more for her uniqueness.

Also, I guess I like the feeling of seeing something so incredibly beautiful in a doll that maybe not everyone can appreciate. Most likely my personality has a lot to do with it :)

I swear when I first saw her I knew...she was the doll for me...I just stared and stared at her face. Nothing anyone could say to me (or not say) could change that.

    2. Most of my dolls are less-than-popular sculpts and that's fine with me. I love them all and they bring me joy and that's the most important part to me. Yes, some of my photo threads here get zero comments but I usually get one or two over at my doll lj. I don't find it discouraging to get zero comments here. Everyone has their own tastes and that's what makes the hobby so lovely.

The people at my doll journal know me and I know them and their dolls so it's totally different. They may or may not comment, too but I know they've looked and smiled and enjoyed the photos.

    3. I only own one doll and I think she is quite rare here on DOA too.

Mine's a limited Dollmore Model Bonnie which is limited to 30 pieces. The limited edition was released around 2007, but until now she's not yet sold out. (Which is a good thing for me!)
Even the standard Bonnie is not really that popular.
And I actually like it when not a lot of people has the same kind of doll :)

    4. Anyone owes a domuya Alice? :3

    5. Ii love to own unpopular molds since i always have love to been unique. I love to own my Volks SD 16 Garnet along my Volks SD Cute Ren which are not the most popular out there.

Nice to see more proud owners of unpopular molds :)

    6. I own a DZ Fei and he's not a very popular doll :sweat In fact someone once told me there are only 5 in north Texas :? But I love him to bits and that's all that matters. :)

    7. There are about eight gazillion other Kyle Reeses out there (understandable - he's a sexy babe ;D), but I don't see too many Elfkins floating around. They're cute, there should be more of them! But alas, there are few :c
Also I've seen a lot of the Strongman Luos and SE Luos around DoA, but only ONE basic one. ONE! And he was sold! Well there was another, but he was split up... I guess Luo might be too big and realistic for some, but I was hoping there'd be more around due to his deliciousness. Either that or people are all Luo'd out by the other two versions :'D

    8. seriously it doesnt matter what others think! if YOU like your dolls its all that matters! after all, you buy them for you, not for the others! (or at least you should be ê_e )

    9. I actually own several unpopular dolls. For instance; DM Amos, ND Belladonna, and a FL Feeple Esther. I'm attracted to what I like to call 'unconventional beauty.' I like dolls who are different in an ugly pretty kind of way. To me, they are more abstract and artistic. And I like being a wierdo ;)

    10. Well, I'm not sure who ARE the most popular, yet...since I'm rather new in comparison to many here. And there are SO many different ones, for goodness' sake! Kind of cool that we don't have to see the same ones over and over. :ablah:
Is you girl, there a Peaks Woods doll? She's so pretty!
      :bcupcake:aheartbea:pcupcake:aheartbea

    11. All three of my dolls are in the less popular category :) I find that their quirks make them so much more appealing to me - for example, my Aidan has a big wide nose, Tiffee has funny mouth and a bulbous nose and Lan is just so....neutral looking. I love em. <3 Megi, my one "popular mold" doll is going to be sold because I just can't attach to him, sadly.

    12. Please don't give up hope and not post pictures! I'm wary to buy a doll I've never seen owner pics of and I'm sure that's the case with other people as well.

Also, I love to look at pics of unpopular molds and will be far more likely to buy a less popular mold. Until I've had my own doll for a while I don't think I'll be able to customize it. (out of fear I'll screw up the doll) and it's easier to have a unique doll with an unpopular mold.

    13. it doesnt really matter to me. i mean, some people will love your doll, and some people wont. you shouldnt really care about what peopl say, because sometimes therye just jealous. as my mom says while nagging at me, dont let it get to ur head.
personnaly, i love unpopular molds. therye really unique and beautiful. since not a lot of people have the mold you have, i would feelspecial.
look at post below. those are all sculpts i love. specially the Ttori.

    14. I have dolls of varying popularity, and I LOVE them all :aheartbea

I know when I posted some pictures of my KDF Muroo, I got some responses along the lines that he was scary looking (I personally think he is cute as a button :D)... and they followed on to say that him, along with Ani (who I also own) and Ttori (my next KDF) were awful sculpts :o But I adore them :)

Please don't be disheartned, the wonderful thing about this hobby is that everyone likes something different :aheartbea

    15. @Frankiecat: the doll in my avatar is a kiddelf Ani 8) there are several arround, but I don't see that many of them in photo-shoots or stories. sheís my darling, even with all the little quirks <3

@foxface: Ani's are are the bomb, I love the sculpt so much <3

    16. I wouldn't be offended. I have had posts with photos, and gotten NADA, but then, i have one or two dolls who get huge responses. My iplehouse Kamau was pretty unique looking, and he got like 50-55 responses! :) But don't let people's responses or lack thereof put you off. I have some dolls i don't care for. And i usually don't even click links if they are listed as the doll in shoot, unless there is another doll. But i'd never crack on anyone for their choice in dolls. My friend Tiff tends to LOVE the not-so-popular dolls. I tease her a bit, just out of fun, but she's wonderful, and she knows i love her kids like they were mine :D

    17. I have noticed that for gallery views not only the popularity of a mold counts, but also how you market your threads. I have two boy dolls and when I post photo shoots of them separately I get about 5 to 8 comments, but when I but them together, use the blue 60/60 heart and the "couple" tag I get two pages of comments. It's not that I suddenly make better pictures. ;)

I have a few rare molds like Unidoll UH-14. I don't think her edition of 200 dolls sold out before she was discontinued. As Unidoll removed the pictures and information of their UniLimiteds I doubt many new collectors will even know what an UH-14 or any other UniLimited is. You don't score popularity points with that. ;)
It's a shame, though. I'd love to see more pictures of rare dolls, so don't stop posting. It was really hard to find enough owner pictures before I decided to buy a Limhwa Eva and she is a nice doll. If people don't post pictures, nobody will know how nice the rare ones are.

    18. I think having a unique style doll is COOL.

    19. What is here to be offended? You love one doll, some other person loves another, where is offense in that? Isn't all this "population" thing comes down to "this I love and this I don't" for each and every one of us?

'Unpopular' doll doesn't mean 'bad'. It just means that not many people see in this doll what they need. (As in: DZ Fei mentioned here: I really like him, but he doesn't suit any of my characters, so... :( no Fei for my doll family. And the same goes for oh-so-popular Sabik: like him, but have no character for him.)

So... what I'm trying to say (and please excuse my bad English) is that popularity is the question of personal love, really. No need to be offended. There are dolls which suit many people tastes, and dolls which not, but that's just because there aren't "right" people for them in the hobby now. :) There is nothing wrong with 'unpopular" dolls themselves.

It's sad not to get many comments on your photos, but if you like make photos - share them. One day someone will be looking for the very same rare doll in the galleries )))

    20. @ Chiffa: of course I love my dolls, I got them because the sculpt spoke to me, not for any other reason. <3
I was simply wondering if I was the only one with slightly awkward feelings about it. my galary posts have never been that frequent, when I make pictures I post, and after that, a break for a long time. I always try to leave a comment that will mean something, not just the ow how pretty.. but if it is a sculpt that doesn't mean something to me, usually I don't look. I look for interesting titles and then decide to ave a look 8)
long story short: of course I'm not really offended, just a little irky I guess
