Maybe the mods can alter the title to be comprehensible to the English-only speakers, or tack a translation on? I have to agree, that's the reason I originally found this thread -- going 'WTF is this now?' -- and then realizing, 'oh, hey, this is a subject of interest to me, and probably to a lot of other people who may also have no idea what it's about and may not even bother looking'.

I love older head sculpts. Love them. (Male and female, actually.) Faces with the definition of age -- like the beautiful mask-face Souldoll did for their Hermit Tarot sculpt -- are something I hope to see more of.

Don't get me wrong on the whole language thing, I am a fairly linguistically flexible person.
I speak American Western Standard and Commonwealth English, nearly fluent Modern Middle English (AKA "Elizabethan", a "dead" form), a surprising amount of Spanish, some Scots, some French, some German, some Latin, a teensy bit of Russian and a teensy bit of Korean. My Japanese is limited to conversational tidbits. Otaku-Culture-Specific terms generally elude me.

 

Totally agree. I don't really want to look most of this stuff up, since last time I didn't recognize a phrase from a fandom and Googled it, I regretted it very badly.

I like the idea of older male BJDs, in both SD and MSD sizes. There are mature minis, but few of them seem to have faces that look mature-the MNF line springs to mind. Super buff bodies, but still really androgynous faces. I think the Iplehouse minis have that issue too.

 

Um... it's uh... I don't exactly know how to word this but Naono Bohra is a manga artist who draws homo themed manga, particularly maleXmale. >.<

 

"Homo themed manga" is nothing new or surprising. Around anime/manga fandom they call it Yaoi and the subject is a whole nother can of worms. All I needed to know was what naono bohra meant- totally didn't expect it to be a name, lol. Thanks.

Asking again- those of you who like to use fandom-specific japanese words, for goodness sake please translate for those of us who never got into said fandoms and only speak conversational bits of Japanese. Arigatou.

Anyway, like a lot of people, I'd love some mature minis with actual mature facial sculpts. I tried to go the 60cm route, but the doll was just too big for me, and I ended up trading him for a smaller doll. While I do love my collection as it stands now, it's a bit depressing that I can't find some more mature sculpts.

I wonder why companies just aren't getting the hint? This subject seems to be beaten over the head so often, and still nothing changes.

Maybe we should all email BJD companies en masse, requesting mature minis. XD

The oldest looking dolls out there that I can think of are Dikadoll Adler and The Hermit Tarot doll. Granted, the latter is mostly due to the mask, but his actual face has a much more mature quality than a lot of dolls out there.

 

I think it's likely to happen someday. Maybe with the bigger dolls, so something between 70 and 90cm? What I don't think we'll see for a while is older women, which is kinda sad. I'd really like to see both.

I'd much rather see the older men, though...I can imagine so many delicious molds for them.

There are sculpts that can be faceupped to look mature or even senior, but the market in general is so sluggish right now that as an artist I haven't bothered to try it except on my own dolls.
