[....Oyaji? The Old Man] (mature, older-looking head sculpts)

Oct 3, 2005

    1. Bobobie Charisma (the human version, of course) is another doll that could easily pass off as a late 30s, early 40s kind of woman thank to her attractively mature face.

As for dolls with built in wrinkles, I personally don't have a character in need of such details, but I love the concept. I know it wouldn't be the most successful sculpts, but I think the novelty of it on top of the fact that many people do have older, elderly characters that they would love dolls to reresent would make it enough of a success for the doll makers.

    2. I've thought about it--I've considered getting bodies for Lorry's parents in the past--it would take a little modding, but it's probably doable. They would be late fifities/early sixties...people that have aged well, but are clearly older. His dad's really quite good looking still. However, I'm not sure if Lorry and his siblings would want to live with their parents, lol, it might be a bit odd so I never did pursue it.

    3. I love the idea, then again I'm old as dirt so I would LOL!

My late sister was stunning at 60 (when she passed) and she had no cosmetic surgery at all. You never would of guessed her age. A friend of mine who is near 90 is another beauty, no cosmetic surgery and sure she is older but keeps herself in shape (still slim) and is very stylish. There have been other women as well, the late Audry Hepburn just to name one who aged gracefully. Since some companies seem to do some dolls in very limited edition sizes a company should do one to test the market.

    4. At the 2008 NY Dolpa, Volks inquired about interest in an older doll and there were a lot of hands that went up saying, yes we wanted an older doll. Haven't heard anything since, but I'd sure like an older (age 40- to 50-ish) doll.

    5. Sure, I'd be up for old dolls just like I'd be up for fat dolls. I don't like the endless focus on ethereally pretty teenage sculpts. But on the other hand, the lack of variety is nice in that it keeps me from buying a lot more dolls :) I'm sure if every company had grandmother dolls and middle-aged paunchy businessman dolls, I would have a much harder time turning those down than I do with turning down the 200th variation on a beautiful 13-year-old girl.

    6. It would be great see old dolls! i also whant sometimes found 80 or 70 dolls, all the dolls are really young and slim, it will be great see dolls with more variety of body complexions and age.

It will be great have a really slim doll to make an elf or a fat doll too to make a fantasy dwarf witt an old face and beard in 1/4 size XD

    7. Two words: Toshiro Mifune.

Yes, I am eager for an adult doll, not a teenaged or prepubescent face on an "adult" body. Not sure how well a persuasively over-40 sculpt would sit with the rest of my posse, but I'd sure like to try. Older than 50 would also be interesting to me.

    8. I'd actually love to have a resin version of Harumatsu, Tien Jen and Chidori's grandfather... who would be in his late 60's around the time I've set for the Turtle House cast.

No way anyone will ever make a sculpt like that, though, and Denny's MiniMees are just too inconsistant and too awkward a size to get a custom sculpt of him done.

    9. One of my dolls is 815, on an equivalent scale with human ages, he is 81. He still needs work on him, but he is going to have grey hair and will have wrinkles on him...and he's a tiny, 27cm doll. I'm giving it a go for sure, don't know how he will turn out though

    10. All these responses are so wonderful! It seems in fact, that an older doll of around 60-70 would be fairly popular!!! Gods, i'd love to see an older female doll of about 60 and be able to dress her in victorian garb. WOW.

    11. i would love an older 60-70 yr woman...i have an older character who acts like a "den mother" for all my boys and it would be fun to have her around. i would be very picky about what she looked like however, but it would be fantastic if older ages where available sometime.....

    12. The Minimees are pretty easy to make look old. If only there were appropriate old-person bodies for them, or even just a more realistic body that could be adapted to different ages, since almost no one of any age is as thin/ ripped and perfect as the bodies on the market.

    13. I have a character that is a 74 year-old man, and he defintiely looks his age. I want to put him in doll form some day.

    14. Well the oldest character I personlly want is only 42, and that's not old ;) But I can definatly see the desire for them. Heck, I'm having enouh problems finding a MSD who looks mid-30's! And he's an essential character in my stories...

    15. I personally would not buy an older-looking doll. This is due, from my point of view, in that for a doll to be sculpted to look much older and still look accurate it would have to be done so in a very realistic manner, and I have learned that I do not like overly realistic sculpts for my collection. So on that aspect, old or young, it doesn't matter since I just don't prefer that look, and I have a difficult time imagining a more mature sculpt that wasn't made to look realistic.

As for the idea of older looking dolls however, I have no problem with it and I can see why people would want them. I have a couple characters who are mothers of some of my favorite dolls and I think they would look just beautiful as bjds as well (even if I'd much rather just envision them rather than actually own them).

    16. I think the issue with sculpts that look older is that it wouldn't be as easy to make them look as unique. For example, Unidoll Ark has quite some noticable marks on his face and despite differences in face-ups, hair, and eyes, unless one has been modded, they all look very much alike.

I think the concept is neat, but the just wouldn't be as much versatility with sculpts with more detail. It seems like the sculpts who can have a thousand faces are those that look the simplest.

As for myself, I am not too into older dolls (even adults), just because I like youthful clothing, but I do think it would be neat to see more of them around.

    17. I find the idea of an older doll intriquing but since many of my dolls are ageless creatures, I don't know if I'd buy a much older looking doll. Still a graceful, elegant older woman or man could still possibly fit into my dolls' universe.

    18. YES.

I keep looking for faces that could easily pass for older, as I have characters I want to portray who are well into their 70s, and in particular, an affable old professor. I would be so happy if a company released older dolls, complete with bodies to match. The bodies available right now are too hale for my wishes.

    19. This is true. You can't really take a doll with a really distinctive sculpt and a lined face and make it have a different expression without some serious modding.

Many of the best photographic models actually have really plain, bland features because that kind of a face can be made to look all sorts of different ways with different makeups, and that's great for their careers.

I'd still like to see more older dolls though. There are fairy sculptors who do older men and little old earth mothers and some of them are pretty good. Unfortunately their works aren't jointed and are really small.
