[....Oyaji? The Old Man] (mature, older-looking head sculpts)

Oct 3, 2005

    1. A Granny Weatherwax doll would so awesome. I could sit her on my shelf so she can glare at me all day long! :D

    2. It would be interesting to see older dolls. I wouldn't buy one personally but age has it's own beauty.

    3. Ark is the next doll on my wishlist, he certainly could pass for the father of most "adult" proportioned SDs out there!

    4. Yeah some more mature looking dolls would be nice, in fact most of my rolemodels are middleaged and even older (I'm 24 :P). And I think even though they are twice my age they are beautiful and charismatic. It would be fun to have a doll like one of them.

For a moment I figured just adding some lines on the faces might do the trick, but it might actually make them look a bit odd with those big sparkling childlike eyes and a wrinkled face.
Anyone ever given it a try to age their dolls? Got examples?

    5. I would love to see that too... my char one of them anywhoo has her grandpa looking after her and i would love to have two dolls one of her and one of him but cant find an old man doll... it would be lovely if they did old man/woman too that way people have a choice of who they want

    6. If I ever get far enough in my plans to complete my little slice of the Chicago Outfit, their boss is nearing 50. I even have his sculpt-to-be-modded picked out and everything. Does that count?

    7. Eventually I might make a doll of a character of mine who looks like he's in his fifties. He's actually over a thousand years old- he's a mage- but for his age he's rather fit. I'd mature him by doing a combination of mods and faceup, and give him his silverywhite hair.

    8. I agree that there are many older characters worth 'resinating'.

One of my characters is actually 50-something (minimee, and yes I really should post pictures someday...).
I've found that to make a fairly convincing older doll some of the less detailed bodies
work best (although my older scientist still has washboard abs;)...)

A lot of the semblance of old age can actually be done with posing, even without adapting the body.
If that is not enough its often possible to adapt the clothing so that it gives the impression of an aged person.
There's a link somewhere on the forum for a victorian guide to tailoring that includes instructions for adapting
patterns to hunches, handicaps and the like I think.
It should be possible to adapt the doll pattern and use filler material to get the right shape.

Personally I doubt if commercial mature molds would be viable though, since the opinions on what is considered
to be a beautiful mature face seem to differ even more than with the younger faces...

    9. yes, i would love to have an elderly couple

    10. That is such a great idea... I never thought about having a character that was old because there werent any molds that would match it. But if there were to be a mold of an older woman/man i would love to have one and dress them up like a grandma!!! It would be soo cute!

    11. what a great idea! A stylish doll, well preserved perhaps but definitely over 50. I could dig that.

    12. Not for bjds to play or decorate with, but I saw from a book for making art/decorative dolls with paperclay (japanese) and in it there was older women and men as well in western dresses, which I thought looked nice.

    13. Another Pratchett reader! Amazing! I love Discworld. I would have to have Nanny Ogg if I had Granny Weatherwax. And Greebo.

And while I'm thinking about it, Detritus the Troll would make me happy. And Cheery Littlebottom. And Vimes, with Young Sam and a tiny copy of "Where's My Cow?" If I get started collecting Discworld dolls, I'm going to run out of space in my house, but my sister and I will both be overjoyed.

    14. BEA ARTHUR! BEA ARTHUR! :D:D:D *rolls over laughing*

    15. i personally would not want one, but i think they should have some, just because others WOULD buy them.

    16. Actually, I HAVE an "older" doll. I have one of the MNM Gary Oldman sculpts, and he's an older man, so the head has some nice age lines and an older look to him. :) I Loooove him that way! He's taken on the role of Dracula in my small family of Vampire-character dolls, based on the movie he played in.

I'd also like a doll for Auron from FFX. He's an older-looking character, though he's only in his 30's technically. There's a vinyl dollfie optional head that can be bought from the volks website that seems like it would work for him, if it were modified. It's older-looking, too. So it is possible, even if some of them aren't necessarily in the same style as most BJDs or On-Topic for DoA.

    17. I've never really felt the need to dolly-personify my 'older' original characters and given my limited funds right now, I would rather buy a doll that personifies one of my younger characters since I write for them more often.

However, if doll funds were unlimited and some artist/doll company out there starts releasing older, more mature looking dolls, I'd seriously consider getting one providing the sculpt(s) fit the character(s) I have in mind. There are - at least - two of my own male characters who are 50+ that I wouldn't mind owning in doll form. I'd also like to see more male dolls that look 30+ but younger than 40 too since I have a few characters that fall into that age range as well ~.~

    18. Come to think of it, I'd love an 'older gentleman' doll.
      Ristorante Paradiso style, maybe?

    19. I would like to have a 70-80 year old man to be Zaki's grandfather, who basically raised him. But I'm no good at modding dolls, so for now he's just in my imagination! lol
