1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Paring Down. Less is more?

Mar 7, 2011

    1. So far I have one doll with two more adult dolls and two doll critters on the way. I honestly don't see myself getting many more than this.

    2. Yes I am new to this hobby, but I do not intend to get a whole lot of BJD's. They are precious and I am afraid I would not enjoy larger numbers of them in a collection. When I get too many dolls of a certain type they end up being stored away and I don't spend as much time with all of them. If I keep my doll collection categories smaller, I can really enjoy them more, and display them easier. I keep the collection fun by adding clothing, props and other fun things for the dolls I do have.

    3. I think it is part psychological. I think that we connect more with something/someone when it is in a smaller group. Once it becomes a large group, then that connection can get lost.

I noticed that once I had more than 1 doll, that I almost felt like i had to choose between the 2, now 3. Once there is more than 1 you will compare and judge and create preferences.

    4. Honestly? I don't see how anyone can cope with having lots and lots of dolls. It's not that I think it's wrong or bad to have ten, or twenty, or a hundred (or more!) BJDs, but when do you find time for them all? There are clothes to make, wigs to change, eyes to swap out...just changing their look would be a full-time job!

One of the things I like best about BJDs is that they're so customizable you don't need a lot of dolls for different characters. Chaeri has lots of costumes and wigs and I dress her up to represent all manner of characters on a regular basis. The difference is that she's always Chaeri cosplaying as Mina from Doll Master or Chaeri cosplaying as my latest GURPS character, or whatever. But she loves dressing up, so it's cool.

I'm happy to let those who enjoy collecting lots of dolls do so as they will. I'm happy with my handful. :)
