Paying more for your Doll's clothing than your own....

Mar 31, 2007

    1. Yeah you would think doll clothes would be cheaper than real people clothes. It's like a hidden cost of owning the doll. I try to get one special outfit for each of my dolls, and cost kind of goes out the window once I find that one.

    2. Originally I don't like shopping for clothing for myself and will do only when I need. After I start this hobby...I buy so many clothes for my doll and some are over 200 $ (O.O") It's almost as much as my dress. So I decided to sew or make what I can make for them more to save this money. :D

    3. Iยดm quite picky with clothes. So I like to sew them by myself. As soon as I see sth which is pretty I think: Nah, you can make sth similar. So I only buy shoes hihi and I love them so much :D. I agree with Dollvari they are really expensive, another reason why I donยดt buy any

    4. I often find myself hesitating to buy a shirt for myself that is about 25 euro's or more, but if I find something for a doll that I really love, I am willing to spend that money and consider it kinda cheap xD; On the other hand, doll clothes stay good while stuff I get for myself wears down after some time, and I do think making doll clothes is a little more difficult than regular sized clothing.

    5. I spend a lot on myself, I'm always into designer items. It is good to treat yourself as well as the doll! :) But for me it is more fun and more personal to design and sew doll clothes so I usually don't spend much on my doll. Just the costs of fabric and hardware off Etsy. The cost of doll shoes is okay for me because I cannot make a pair I'm happy with. I can see why tailors want a lot of money for their work, it can be stressful and time-consuming especially when running a business. I did invest in my doll but I like to invest in myself too.

    6. Definitely not! Sometimes they do have expensive outfits like a tux for $200 or a kendo set for $500 but I like buying clothes for myself often and sometimes those clothes are kimono ranging from $200-$800. And that is for just the kimono which doesn't include things like the obi that could cost just as much or the komono necessary to wear the outfit. I also have this irritating obsession with purses...that doesn't work well with my hoarding Takeshi Murakami stuff. It was just unfortunate for me that he chose to collaborate with Louis Vuitton. *_* I...I'm trying to slow down, I swear! I need to relearn to how to save. Or block myself from the internet.

    7. I've also been shocked at the price of dolls clothes. But considering that it is much harder to work on such a small scale it makes sense. Especially for the elaborate and intricately detailed items. I've actually taken to going to thrift stores and buying stuff that I can repurpose as material for doll clothing. It's still cheaper than going to Joann's or something like that.
I don't buy clothes for myself too often but I do like to shop at Ross where clothes are cheap so doll clothes would cost more. However I do splurge sometimes and get myself some Lolita stuff, in which case that ends up being more than doll clothes.

    8. Most definitely more on doll clothes than on mine. I live in jeans and tees, and cheap ones at that; who can find cheap clothes for dolls? Not me!!

    9. I'm so glad I'm not on my own here! I feel so guilty spending so much on my boys clothes when I am one of the only people who actually see my dolls, but I feel when I have spent so much on the dolls themselves they deserve lots of quality clothes! Why spend hundreds on beautiful dolls and dress them in rags? I love the way their clothes can tell stories about your dolls character <3

    10. Well, dolls clothes are usually harder to make than people's. They are tiny and sometimes really complicated. So it's expected to be pricy sometimes. I make most of the clothes myself, but in past I used to buy clothes. A pricy hobby we have, yeah ^^;

    11. No, just no.
I am really hesitant about buying (really) expensive items. I tried that once or twice and my dolls actually never wear those items :ablink:
If I would come across the most fantastic amazing piece of clothing ever I would think about it, but otherwise no.
I do buy things for them, don't get me wrong. But I guess my price limit is somewhere around $50 usd.

    12. The more i get into this hobby the more i realize i need to learn to sew. It is very easy to spend more on just the dolls clothes (and for one outfit none the less!) than on my own. But the clothes are so pretty!

    13. Yes, and no. I am more then willing to pay for a tailor fitted, custom made piece of doll clothing (and they can cost more then my own) But I am not willing to pay a lot of "factory made" doll clothing, that mostly is a hit or miss

    14. Doll clothes don't often cost more than mine but they do cost more than my children's. I often make their clothes since they have such unusual bodies... But I do have caps on how much I will spend on clothes or shoes for my dollies.

    15. My doll's clothes, I think, cost about as much as my clothes do. But his shoes? Definitely cost more than mine did :XD:

    16. Depends on which clothes of mine we mean. I've been getting into the pinup style of clothing and that stuff is EXPENSIVE (about $100/dress). My everyday work clothes usually come from Old Navy so at least that stuff's cheap. Doll clothes I've been buying new from Alice's Collections, which usually has lower prices than other companies anyway. :) Some of the prices for fullset outfits from various companies have been eye-popping as I've been browsing this week, though!

    17. For me it's more of a "if I had a perfect doll body, hell yeah I'd buy 200$ outfits for myself" type of thing...but since I have not, I can at least spoil my dolls who can wear anything I can't...

    18. So here's how it goes down:

Me: *stares at computer* Dat dress. My doll needs it. I need it because of reasons. I shall buy it.

*sees the 200 dollar price tag*

*stares down at my feet and my socks with holes in them*

      *clicks 'Buy'*

      Me: lol yolo

    19. I don't spend more than absolute necessary on my clothes. Most of my fancy formal wear pieces are hand-me downs(nice to be small). I usually have to shell out more than I care to for work clothes, but it's the price you pay for that big business paycheck. Everything else, like undies and basics, I buy as cheap as possible online.
As for doll clothes, I make most of them. Some pieces, like lacy stockings, I buy online. I buy a lot of accessories and notions and materials, too, which adds up....
Still, because of my work wardrobe, I'm currently spending more on my clothes than doll clothes. However, if doll clothes suddenly became tax deductible....

    20. I really would like to blow all the money I have on clothing my doll but the prices on some pieces are staggering. ;___; But yes, I do spend more money on my dolls than myself like the majority here(though investing in a sewing machine and learning how to sew is going to be really useful).
