It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Paying more for your Doll's clothing than your own....

Mar 31, 2007

    1. All the time my dad says " You could have got yourself a new pair of shoes for that price" or " Why would you buy a wig for your doll when you can buy a wig for yourself" . He does it to be annoying, but I don't really care. I can't sew that well, and plus it is always cute to get little shirts or shoes in the mail :)

    2. I think I spend roughly the same amount of money on doll clothes as I do on my own clothes. A full outfit for me would be about $80-$90 and I'll spend about the same amount on doll clothes. In order to save money, I think I'll just buy things that I can't make such as wigs, shoes, eyes, paint etc and make outfits myself.

    3. Thank goodness I sew - I must say I spend lots on my dolls but I spend lots on me too... I go to thrift shops & fabric stores to grab what I can LOL
      & Kawaii_mon I definitely spend more on dollie shoes than on mine - cause I have more dolls basically. I've got lots of thrift shop shoes for me - & 3 pairs of very expensive boots/shoes that last forever (one pair of boots - really pricey even tho I got them on sale - is 16 years old). No dollie shoes at Goodwill :( although I do expect their shoes/boots WILL last longer than mine (unless they run about at night while I sleep LOL!)

    4. I would spend more money on my dolls clothes than on my clothes, but for the most part I spend about the same on my dolls that I spend on me.

    5. Paying more for your Doll's clothing than your own.... is completly normal for me. All of my clothing is hand-me-downs from family and friends. If I rememeber right, the last thing I got for myself was a cool gothy coat for a tenner from a charity shop. The last thing I got for Aharon was ยฃ80 worth of stuff from Alice's Collections. And he has way more stuff than I ever would. He is one well spoiled kiddo.

    6. This is one of my biggest pet peeves T_T I often struggle with the decision of buying clothes for my dolls or myself /: Right now I'm tying to buy clothes and wigs to finish my dolls... But I also want new shoes. It's a tough choice XD

    7. Yeah... Guilty as charged! My dolls have fancier clothes than me! I don't think I've bought anything expensive for myself clothes-wise in over a year

    8. I try not to buy clothing unless I absolutely need it (for myself.)

      For my dolls I try to keep it to a maximum of one outfit each but maybe an extra shirt or something to give a little variety once in a while.

      However, lately I have been spending more on my dolls' clothes than myself and my parents think I'm completely nuts. :sweat

    9. Ha! Yeeeah. Two of my girls are in a limited Volks outfit and when I went searching for the second one the only place it was was for sale anymore was a single one on Yahoo Japan. Bidding and shipping and deputy fees later, that dress cost more than any single item of clothing I've ever owned. XD;

    10. Ahaha for me doll clothes are definitely more expensive than my clothes (with the exception of a few pairs of shoes). I like to think that it's just me finding bargain deals on clothing for myself, but to be honest, it's probably the doll clothes being pricey... and me not doing anything about it. -_-;;

    11. Happens to me all the time. I won't pay even $20 for clothes for myself(But then most of my clothes come from Goodwill as of late) but I'm willing to drop $50 or more on an outfit for my dolls. They'll all be dressed up better than I am. :sweat

    12. I always make their clothing/accessories unless it's something beyond my skill level, I think its more fun and much less expensive that way

    13. Yeah I never knew doll clothes could be as expensive as real clothes. T_T I'm a really bad shopaholic.
      But I guess you're gonna pay for quality and effort here. I mean like, its not mass manufacturing right. OwO?

      Maybe this is an incentive to take up sewing and knitting so that we can make our own clothes and be designers ;)
      or even use recycled items from the home to clear up some space ~

    14. OMG, true true true true true! The money I'd and have spent on my doll(s) through the years I could retire rich (well, not that rich). :)

    15. I've been buying my dollies more clothes than my own, tho i think i have enough clothes to last for a year or 2 XD i get new clothes when there's occasions xD

    16. not always ...but yeah sometimes when I found out the price for their outfit is higher I get a little bit ... you know... unevenness..perhaps :p

    17. Its really sad that I pay more for clothes for my doll than I do for myself lol. I hardly shop for myself anymore because of it l

    18. Sure enough xD; I have no inhibitions in doing just that. I'm not interested into broadening my wardrobe and when I 'do' do that it hardly costs anywhere close to what a dress for a BJD would cost me or around there maybe if I really feel the need to splurge on a jacket or shirt I've fallen in love with. Still, I'd far more readily give that much or even twice as much for clothing and wigs for my dolls than I would for myself. Of course I make my own outfits too since I know how to sew and embroider and am learning how to knit, but that doesn't mean I don't want to buy nicely made things from third parties for my dollies still.

    19. I find some of the more lavish doll clothes quite expensive, but then again so much work must go into those outfits. You get what you pay for.
      However I defenitely spend more on my own clothes. I'm not fussed about the latest fashion, but I do like quality, so when I do buy new things I tend to spend that little bit more.
      Eeach of my dolls only has one or two outfits each so far, and I those are reasonably priced things from Etsy rather than the expensive brand clothes. When I get a bit more settled into this hobby I'll probably start looking at the more pricey stuff.

    20. my wardrobe is full of jeans from the marketplace, hoodies and t-shirts with funny sayings on them..thinking about it, it's a little bit nerdy..but honestly i don't care so much ..nay, i prefer this casual style..i really love t-shirts with nerdy sayings! XD
      I think that I could spend much more for my doll that for myself! XD
