Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I'm not a fan of it personally. I may like to see images of them because they are interesting, but i would never consider buying one.
For me there is a limit to how far i'm willing to go to find clothes, or make them, and i imagine the ones with wide hips that pinch at the waste are hard to fit and have it look nice. though i've seen some done well.
      I prefer more realistic proportions.

    2. I, myself, am a woman of more-or-less the shape of a sack of potatoes. I have big breasts and not much of a shape either way. Because of that, I like my dolls to have a clearly defined shape; I also am more likely to choose a doll with small bust or even lack thereof. I don't like the REALLY pear-shaped dolls, but rather those that are distinctly pear-shaped: Unoa (small bust), Minifee (cutie bust - those have BIG bottoms) and such.
But the trend in itself? I think it's good that there's some variety. I remember when all the MSD bodies, for example, used to be child-like. I like it more now that there are many options to choose from - that's what BJDs are all about :)

    3. I think variety is the spice of life, so it's great to have the different shapes.
Personally I love the doll chateau bodies!

    4. double post

    5. At first I really disliked the look. It felt too extreme and unrealistic, but now I've come to appreciate it as a fantasy look. I could consider buying one from Leekeworld someday.

    6. sorry - another double post

    7. When I first saw AOI Tuki and Leekeworld Mikhaila I thought it was strange and didn't get it at all. *_*
and now I find it adorable! :) I esp. like Doll Chateau
I am also pear-shaped, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

    8. I really don't like them that much. However I prefer more realistic sculpts for Dolls to each their own.

    9. It's pretty awesome to have more variety of shapes and sizes in bodies as well as heads. I personally like a little exaggeration in body shape to convey even more individuality - I hope to eventually have a willow-thin Rosette Muse girl and an oddly gaunt Doll Chateau mini boy to suit certain characters. And as for the pear-shaped trend I'm in love with the Dollzone Anson body, I think the proportion of the hips is just *gorgeous*.

    10. I think they're too much like what I don't like about my own body - I have a small waist, very large hips and a fairly average/small bust line. I prefer dolls that are hour glass shaped. :)

    11. I totally dislike the extreme pear shaped bodies. They just don't fit my own personal idea of what a bjd body looks like.

    12. I really enjoy the variety in shape, actually. Skinny dolls with hour glass shapes are fine, but being a pear-shaped individual myself, it's nice to see a doll reflect my body type, even if it is exaggerated. :)

    13. I like the Enaibi french dolls when i saw them on flickr i was drooling lol

    14. They are a little odd, but there is always gonna be tons of people who adore them.

    15. Not for me, thanks. I perfer those easier to clothe.

    16. I enjoy seeing imagination at work. I've seen some beautiful images of them. So far, I don't feel moved to own one. I do love variety though.

    17. I have to say the first time I saw Leekeworld Mikhala I was like, Wtf? the Doll chateau ones I just want to give a freaking sandwich to. They remind me of those commercials of kids in poverty walking around in mud puddles, or pictures of people from the Holocaust, especially that male body.

But from an artistic POV they are interesting to look at and are very different from the usual ones on the market today.

But I'm more into the kiddie sculpts, so these dolls are out of my rage of appeal anyway. But they'd be good to turn into fairy or mythical dolls.

    18. I think it's interesting to see that doll-makers are experimenting with different body types and even taking steps towards more artistic bodies than natural ones (like DollChateau). While I'm really enjoying all these shapes I do hope the trend will go to actually NATURAL bodies. Some of the pear-shaped dolls seem very realistic, others push the boundaries of what is humanly possible, and the trend is leaning towards the latter in my opinion. Great! Amazing! But I would rather see more variety that is not exaggerated, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when I saw Iplehouse giving their new girl bodies some peary hips. I don't think one or the other is favorable in general, but I personally like the non-exaggerated peary bodies the most. Especially said IH girl body, and also the new Dollzone boy body.

    19. It kind of weirds me out on the childlike dolls. I've yet to meet a child with that sort of figure so it strikes me as a bit unnatural. I have no real problem with it on an artistic level but it just isn't something that appeals to me personally.

I do quite like it on adult dolls though. I had to get an Aoi Tuki body for one of my girls because I loved the shape and it was perfect for her.

    20. I think the trend now towards bottom-heavy dolls and the approval for it is interesting, considering the older Elfdoll girls had relative "thunder-thighs" for the time, and that was often seen as a negative, compared to their contemporaries' slender bodies (Delf, Soom, etc.). Times change!
