Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I'm very attracted to anything that is new and different. As of right now, the pear shape seems to be the new thing! I'm sure in a few years some other body part may be exaggerated and it will become popular as well. I personally love more artistic bodies, although they would see to be a lot hard to dress. :)

    2. I like them. The more body types in the doll world the better, even if they are on the physically impossible or just unhealthy looking side. Doll Chateau disturbed me a bit at first, too creepy, but I grew to like them. They look fantastic clothed... Although they still make me think of mummies or something...
I love Dollzones new MSD bodies, since they don't push it too much to me. A friend of a friend is actually built like one, so they stay within the realms of reality for me. When I get a DZ girl, I want her on the new body.

Aaaand Leekeworlds art body is... interesting. :/
I love how she looks in anything that either hides her hips, or makes her body look different...
To clarify, she looks great in dresses that make you think she has a petticoat on, and not hips...
But I also love seeing her in looser tops, but pants or other things that fit tighter on her hips.
The combination makes her look almost a bit on the chubby end, and it's kind of cute. :3

      I just don't like seeing that body without clothes. It just looks wrong. XD;

    3. I love the pear shaped trend (though I am not in love with Doll Chateau'ss versions), I just wished that there were more out there. I own a Mikhaila and am constantly looking for new pear shaped dolls ... I hadn't seen the Unoss version of the per shape I have to say it makes me want to have a Unoss.

Though I have to disagree with the notion that Leekeworld's Art body isn't realistic. I've seen real women whose body is very similar to Art body shape.

    4. I prefer slim-hipped dolls.

    5. I personally love the pear shaped dolls! Being unique is beautiful! I am hoping that these dolls will play a part in paving the way for all sorts of different looking dolls. I would love if thre were as many doll body types as there are human body types. I really am a fan of the very artsy looking dolls. The weirder the better XD!

    6. I've noticed that too...

I reluctantly admit that Leeke Mikhala is very cute. But I'm not a fan of the pear-shaped body, simply because it doesn't look... right. It's very far from anatomically correct. And I imagine trying to find clothes for them would be a major headache!

    7. i think the pear shape is very appealing. it makes a nice change from hourglass and beanpole bodies (not that i dislike either since, well- that's all the body types my collection really consists of right now). i like variety, so i'd welcome owning one of these dolls.

    8. Well, I'm just a beginner, so as the OP mentioned AOI Tuki as an example, I googled it to know what we are talking about. And I'm a bit puzzled.. I don't find the body shape that exaggerated at all! It is an absolutely stunning shape with a little meat on it. Now the Leekeworld Mikhaila is pear shaped!

I can't really relate to the comments about the pear shape not being "anatomically correct". First of all I think pear shape is probably the most common shape on real women. Secondly, I've seen ABJDs with absolutely huge chests, on an otherwise tiny and super slim body. That shape is by far much more "unnatural" if you want to talk about dolls in comparison to real people.

    9. I'm actually very glad there are so many shapes out there. It really gives us the freedom to go as far with our dolls as we want.
For the moment I'm not interested in actually getting a pear shaped doll though, But I do enjoy looking at pictures of them made by their owners. Some can create really interesting characters with these dolls.

    10. I wouldn't want a pear-shaped doll. Having a doll that is at least mostly realistic looking is important to me, and, for most people, it isn't realistic. I have met one person that was rather pear-shaped, but that was unusual.

    11. I personally like a pear shaped doll simply because they are unique and aren't the perfect girl body. Not ever human is an hourglass. Pears are great just NO apple shaped dolls.

    12. I think they look awesome- (especially Doll Chateau because they are so stylised and that's what I've always wanted to see in a BJD). I think new/different types of body shapes are like a breath of fresh air because it would be nice to see some dolls that are a bit different to the majority for a change!

    13. This. I don't like the huge perky boob thing either. I'm ordering bella. I don't know why anyone would think that the dc boys were pearshaped tho.

    14. i really love how pear-shape bodied dolls look.. they make me feel that they are so delicate even if they have huge waists and i think that its part of "art-making" in BJDs..

    15. While I would never own one, I think they're gorgeous and would be so much fun to work with. I really wanted to get a Leeke girl and make her into a Strawberry Shortcake xD

    16. The first doll I saw like this was a leek world doll. At first I loved her cute little face and thought my doll wishlist was about to grow again but the body really put me off. I really didn't like how the wide hips had left the legs joining in a strange way. For me personally there is also something a little off about having a child like doll with hips that out of proportion. It just didn't sit right with me at all

    17. Hmm I guess I don't really see that - my brain sort of only thinks of it as an art doll so the hips don't put me off as much. Oh well:)

    18. Came onto this thread because it looked like an interesting read with my cuppa, now I'm obsessed with Doll Chateau lol.

I quite like the wider hips clearly :)

    19. My views on them are kind of conflicting. I do like the doll chateau body for all it's weirdness, but I could never have a character who was a proper human with that body. My planned character for a DC Olivia I can only justify because she's a ghost and she can morph a bit. If they were the same proportions but smaller I'd love them as little imps or pixies.

In general though, not really a fan. I hate the way the torsos are exaggeratedly small. I like my dolls a bit busty, with more of an hourglass figure.

I don't like the figure in 'artisan dolls' either, if anything I like long and skinny there which is something I don't like in commercial bjds.

That Leeke Mikhala comment made me stop in my tracks. That's a really interesting interpretation, I completely understand it.

And the Doll Chateau thing - that's possibly the only way I could make a DC doll character a human, if she were purposely an exaggerated model. I personally though am quite into dark and twisted, not to mention designers and a fascination with that sort of culture though I'm happily not a part of it.

    20. I personally love the pear shaped dolls! Probably because that's the same body type i have, very tiny up top with very wide hips  And even in people i find that most pleasing to look at, so the pear shaped dolls are really awesome for me
