Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I'm still wrapping my head around this. I am content with thinking they must be aliens(fantasy/scifi, etc). Especially Doll Chateau.
      I love their strange dolls!
Though..it's not so much the odd shapes, as it is the twiggy-ness of some dolls. I'm just afraid they will break, or they may not stand or pose right with their odd shapes.

    2. I do not like how these dolls look >.< pear-shaped just doesn't do it for me. It's not pleasing to look at and I myself would never get one but I've seen people make them into gorgeous ladies (and males).

    3. I've been here before, but I thought I'd update...

I have four really stylized dolls now- three Cerisedolls and a Leeke Arianna and I love them!! Next up is Iracebeth! I don't know why but I am tired of realism. I don't like it at all, and it's getting worse!

Despite the clothing "problems" I wouldn't trade any of my girls for the world! More than anything they seem to me like real ART, unbounded imagination that's not slave to anything real. They come not so much form life, but from pure imagination.

All it means is that I have to sew more! LOL!

    4. I love all of the different doll shapes available, hell I have a Leekeworld Valentina on layaway, and plan on getting a doll chateau body at some point. I appreciate the artistry that goes into producing every doll, so I'm down for just about any body shape as long as they can pose well.

    5. I personally think the pear-shaped trend is really cool. I like the form of the body, but I just can't imagine myself being able to do much with my dolls when they're shaped that way... So yes, the pear-shape does appeal to me, but only in the "I'll admire it from a distance" or "I see it as art" sort of way.

    6. They're cool, but I don't see myself buying one. None of them appeal to me that much outside of "oh, how different!"

Also as others mentioned, the difficulty of clothing them would be a challenge. I'm no seamstress, and I have a hard enough time dealing with buying clothing for my one doll that has /slightly/ wider hips than usual.

Besides, I currently only have boy dolls and plans for boy dolls. I feel like if I'm going to get a girl doll at some point, I would want one that is average proportions and can fit into many different outfits.

    7. I love them! I love all body shapes in dolls and people. I love the girls with large thighs and round hips with tiny waists and shoulders. Theyre very womanly and cute.

    8. I like seeing dolls with bigger butts and thicker thighs but not as extreme as some of the dolls the the pear-shape trend as spawned.

A doll like Clarice, with a big head to balance out big hips, looks alright to me but not a doll like Mikhaila. The idea of an extreme pear shape as being a fantasy body type as come up a lot through the thread. A small headed doll with hips that extreme feels to me like a realistic doll that was being transformed into a fantasy type like Clarice and then the transformation was just stopped, leaving hips that don't belong.

Rather than just having more junk in the trunk, the lower body feels to me like it's transplanted from a larger doll.In the right clothing, they are cute but I have a thing about wanting my dolls to look good naked. It extends to my fashion dolls and would count at least double for a more expensive doll.

I had never seen Marti Presents' dolls before. I Googled them and ended up looking at the photos on the offical Facebook account. Their figures are more to my tastes and the upcomming Miukini has larger hips but isn't super extreme. Yet again, there is a larger head to balance things and she has a fair bit of bust as well.

    9. I like the pear shape! Since I am kinda a pear too. >.<
I know its something not all people like, my Leekeworld Ariana is the only doll everyone in my family hates, but I always felt a special bond with her since we are kinda similar, though I'm not nearly as pear as her, or with a huge head.

In general any type of bodyshape would be great if more companies did them, sometimes I wish there was more variety just like with people in real life.

    10. I love the Unoss body, the exaggerated curves, the giant hands, and the big manly feet. But I think her bust would proportionally be considered a D cup, thus IMO out of the pear shape and into the mild hourglass shape. I dream to someday own that body, it is so gorgeous. :)

I also love the AoiTuki, but again she seems a bit hourglass rather than an outright pear like the Leeke art girls. If they weren't so difficult to acquire I'd love to get one.

The Leeke are a bit too extremely pear shaped for me, and the DC are just alien-like Korean Manwa characters created in 3D, gorgeous, but not for me and my doll family.
So basically, I like the semi-realistically proportioned pears, but not the waaaay exaggerated artsy ones. At least not to own.

    11. I've only seen Leeke's Mikhala and I was really turned off by her. I like more realistic shaping. Don't care for big boobs either.

    12. I hope I haven't posted here before, I feel like I have xD
I like the pear shaped bodies!
They add personality to dolls, and it makes them unique.
I wanted to buy Ariana, but I was unsure how much clothes I would be able to find for her! :s

    13. I like how they are trying to go for a unique shape, after all, not all bodies look the same! I personally don't think I'd want to own one, although I give kudos for someone trying out something other than the same general shape. If they ever made a 'chubby' sculpt, I think that would be really branching out, and although it wouldn't necessarily be popular, I think it would be really neat to bring some extra variety to the customization/personality/character of it all, if you get what I mean? lol

    14. I really love the look of the pear body shape. I haven't gotten around to buy one, though. Also, how would you go about buying clothes for that?

    15. I think they are beautiful.

But, I am exhausted with the expectation of beauty in modern-day society. Beauty is an attitude, not a body-type.

    16. Body shapes, also known as somatotypes, are important in determining people's (as well as doll's) capabilities. For example, the pear-shaped body, also known as an ectomorph, has difficulty developing muscles and has a big buttocks. This means proportionally speaking, if the doll were to be realistic, the body constitution would not be very muscular. Sculpts such as doll chateau in this case portray pear shaped bodies more accurately in using its emaciated form. However, the amount of fat content on a body should not be overlooked. Generally, women have more body fat content than males; male pear shaped doll bodies should be generally more lean than female. Aesthetically speaking, pear shaped bodies tend to be a niche, more prevalent in anime communities.

    17. i love the pear shaped bodies! the only thing that concerns me is buying clothes for it. this is why im a little hesitant in buying one.

    18. i only own boy dolls at the moment, but i would buy a wide hipped female doll faster than the normal shaped dolls.
maybe it's just me but i find it so much more appealing when a female has bigger/wide hips, maybe because im
      such a tiny shapeless girl.

    19. I love looking at pics of these art dolls because I think some of them are really stunning but I would never buy one myself. I'm sure it's hard to find clothes for them and even though I love to own fantasy dolls I prefer my dolls to have normal shaped bodies.

    20. At first I didn't care for the body style, but now i'm leaning towards getting one doll (not sure which one yet) with this shape, it's kind of quirky and different :)
