Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I really like them from an artistic standpoint, but I don't think I would ever get one, mainly because finding clothes for them would be really difficult as far as I know, and I don't want to have to commit to making all of the clothes for a doll... Sometimes I'd much rather buy them than go through the trouble! I also tend to prefer dolls with more proportionate figures as well, so I don't think that a pear shaped doll would really fit into my future collection :(

    2. I really wasn't fond of the pear-shaped dolls at first, but some of them that are slightly more subtle about it have slowly turned me towards liking them. I've always preferred pear-shaped dolls to ones that are very top-heavy, though. I'm glad that the varieties of stylized body types seem to be widening, though.

    3. I like that there is a different body type being coveted in the doll world. I think they're lovely, however I won't personally be purchasing them for now.

    4. I never really cared for the pear-shape when I had just seen dolls with it in photos. But then I got to look at a doll owned by a local girl IRL and to this day that was very possibly the most adorable doll I've ever seen.
Not adorable in a "I need one of those for myself" kind of way, but more in a "Oh, now I get it" way, if that makes sense?

I still have none of my own, but who knows, maybe one day.
I also agree with everyone that mentioned that they like the variation in body types available. I love that there is so much room and acceptance for deviations from the norm and that artists are able to experiment so much with proportions and shapes.

    5. I love the pear shape and think it is absolutely beautiful! The pear shapes from DC and Leeke are actually my two favorite body types. They are just so different and unique. The only thing I don't like is that it is almost impossible to find clothes to fit their shapes. That definitely hasn't stopped me from ordering them though!

    6. What I absolutely love about this hobby is that you really can have any shape of doll you want. I have to admit I like the unrealistic exaggeration of the silhouette, Doll Chateau bodies have. I have three and expecting to get a few more in the near future.

    7. I think it might? However I've only seen Leeke World and Doll Chateau really take on that kind of shape for some of their dolls and some artist dolls as well. I guess its mostly the artist side of the bjd making that takes on that shape

    8. I like the pear shape :) In fact I yesterday ordered a Leekeworld Bonnie on layaway <3 She is so cute with her odd body. I don't like Mikhala though, I don't think her head is good on that body.

    9. Frankly, I think they're hideous. It has a very fetish look to me, especially since some of these dolls also have fetish face sculpts to go along with it, like Leekeworlds Mikhala. I've never had a problem with people seeing my dolls before, but I'd be embarrassed and uncomfortable showing one of these to someone. I had a chance to see one in real life and hated it then too.

I don't agree that Unoss is pear shaped, at least not the way the others are... I'm not really sure how it's even made your list in all honesty.

    10. Really? A fetish look?? That is a new one for me. Mostly I hear creepy or cartoonish but never fetish. :P

Wouldn't a fetish doll be more likely to have extremely large breasts or have moving male uh...parts or something? I guess I have never exactly thought of the pear shape as a sex thing. But maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean by fetish in this case?

    11. How are having extremely disproportionate large breasts any different than having extremely disproportionate large hips? Fetishes aren't limited to "private" areas, like you seem to think?. For example fatty/chubby girl fetishes. Yes, these types of dolls' looks 100% fall under a fetish category for me.

    12. I'm not that big of a fan

    13. At first, I was not a fan at all. When I saw the DC bodies though, I was intrigued by their oddity. Now I have a DC Agatha on the way, and I can't wait to see her bizarre body in person! I've grown quite fond of them since I first saw them, so yes, I am a fan of the pear shape. I like how different they are.

    14. I think they look super pretty and unique. ^-^

    15. I'm not much into this kinda doll, not much a fan of it. Maybe someday I could change my mind, but for now it's not something interesting to me :0

    16. As a slightly pear-shaped person myself, I find that I'm drawn way more to the pear shaped bodies (especially DC's lovely ones) rather than dolls that are just slender overall or ones that are busty/top-heavy.

But it's understandable how some people wouldn't like them as much since everyone has their own tastes in what they find attractive or interesting.

    17. ^ This, people seem to forget that lots of people fetishize chubby girls
      I'm not really a fan.

    18. Large hips are something I just can't get use to. I totally respect the vision of this artistic sculpt variation, but its not for me. I guess my eyes need to see a proportionate body. Anything outside of that makes me crazy. I can appreciate and enjoy disproportionate eyes and heads. . The thing that is so wonderful about these dolls is that someone will love this type of body sculpt and it will really speak to them. With that in mind I could never say that it is all wrong for a doll, disproportionate or not. Its just a matter of personal taste and vision. The idea of trying to create an outfit for a doll like this makes my head spin.

    19. I don't really care for them. I like to sew for my dolls and pear shape dolls are harder to sew for.

    20. I'm fond of them. They have a cute profile.
