Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I love the pear shaped dolls. I find the small breasts and wide hips very attractive. I would like to see more "chubby" girls too. That's just me. Maybe I love them because I have a similar body (pear shaped) and I like to see it on a doll. To each their own.

    2. I'm thinking about Lillycat's work, this is her cartoon body ; I personnaly adore that type of dolls and I wish there was more on the market. It just stands out, I'm happy that people really start experimenting with body shapes and having more freedom in their creations rather than just stick to an "ideal proportions" type of thing.

    3. I'm not a huge fan. I've seen some that are ok artistically but I'd prefer more even proportions for my own collection. Of course that's just me though.

    4. I'm an adorer of the pear shaped trend. There's something sweet about those itty bitty waists to me. :3

    5. For me it really depends on the style of the sculpt, but in general I do like pear shaped silhouettes - on dolls and in reality.

Not keen on the stylisation on Dollchateau bodies, but I have other issues with DC sculpts, I do find them quite unsettling sometimes! All hips and spindly limbs. But I really like Lillycat Cerisedolls - not enough to own them, since they wouldn't fit with my current doll and other dolls I plan to own, but they're stylised in a way I find cute and fun. That Cartoon body Zeuh posted - lovely!

I love the Dollzone pear shaped body that their limited Anson had. It's not a particularly exaggerated pear shape - here's a pic of the 'human' body with the Anson flower head. If there'd been a more appropriate head sculpt in MSD size for my girl I'd have gone with that body in a flash! She's meant to be pear shaped, small ribs, small boobs, small waist, all hips and butt and thighs! Alas face sculpt accuracy is more important to me and she ended up as an SD instead, which I do prefer.

If I even found a more pear shaped body that her head would fit I could be persuaded to drop her original bod in a flash!

    6. I really love the pear trend! My own body is rather shapeless, and as an artist, I take a great amount of inspiration from the human body. The exaggerated features on the Doll Chateau and Leeke bodies are absolutely beautiful in a cartoony, otherworldly kind of way. If I wasn't so determined to get a body for my floating head, I'd easily jump on the chance to get a Leeke pear girl.

That said, I would like to see more variety in bust sizes to match such curvy hips. The small bust is artistic and beautiful, yes, but it's still sad that there are no ultra-curvy dolls with proportional torsos to match their bottom halves. Not to mention finding clothing with a good fit must be something of a nightmare if you're not exactly a seamstress.

    7. I absolutely adore the pear shaped bodies that have been coming out. I looovee the look of curvy hips and big thighs. The bust size doesn't matter, I enjoy seeing the cutie busts with the large hips and the more fuller busts as well. I hope to own quite a few dolls with pear shaped bodies! c:

    8. I have two (soon to be three) Doll Chateau dolls but they are not especially pear shaped. I have the four legged one and Alma and will be getting the alien looking Barbara as soon as she ships. I also have a Lillycat Cerise who is a little pear shaped but not too much. I am short and round myself so my doll collection more or less reflects my ideal me. That means tall, leggy, cat like and if I had a choice, blue skinned. So I suppose my dolls are actually my alter egos and as such I want them to be different than me.

    9. I like hourglassed shaped dolls with huge breasts and tiny waists and shapely hips. The pear shaped dolls don't do anything for me.

    10. They are quickly becoming my favorites.

    11. I love my pear shape Mikhaila. To me, for a long time all the sculpts looked far too similar - the males were all slender young looking bodies, the females were all slender to cartoony with overexaggerated parts. I like having some variety for characters, whether a pear shaped girl, or a bulkier, more adult male sculpture, or something completely stylized/unrealistic like some of the Doll Chateaus.

but again, I'm known to be a weirdo with my likes/dislikes, so take my opinion for the little that it's worth ;)

    12. I have a DC baby body because I wanted a chunkier doll and there are no fat yosd sized dolls besides that domadoll one. Ordering directly from a company still creeped me out a bit, so I ordered the baby body through a dealer. I love the joints and her big bum, but the arms are way too short and she has no mobility joints. I do like the fact that her bodytype is different from everyone else's without being a fantasy doll though.

    13. I happen to really enjoy the pear shape and am actually very interested in purchasing one of these girls. Could any of you suggest a curvy doll?

    14. I recently got a PD 22Honey doll (BongBong), who is a more realistic pear shape and I love her, so much so that I'm planning on getting the other dolls in the range.

    15. I love them, and exaggeration in general. I think they are super cool and ethereal and beautiful, societal implications (about body image or whatever) aside. I think all body types can be equally appealing depending on how they're presented... I'm still waiting for some brave company to come out with a really cute 'chubby' body.

I did used to think that those really exaggerated types would look kind of odd with the rest of my planned collection... which have proportions within fairly believable bounds... but I now realize a combination of A) I don't actually care and B) the difference once they have clothes on is actually not that severe. Which is great because I seem to be all about DC these days. :'3

    16. Dust of Doll (e.g. Appi) (pear)
Leeke World art body (e.g. Mikhaila) (pear)
Leeke World Type B body. (pear)
Doll Chateau (e.g. Vivienne (yosd) / Bella (msd)) (pear)
      Dollzone b45-008 body. (pear)
      Freakstyle Salomé (chubby)
PD 22Honey (BongBong) (suggested by dolls&tea) (pear)
      Lilycat Cartoon Body (pear)
Sleeping Elf Coco / Bonbon (chubby)
Darak-I (e.g. Claire) (very slight!) (pear)
      Dollpamm (e.g. Ivy) (pear)
      Dollmore Alex. (chubby)
      Jaimedoll Ara (chubby)
      Domadoll Okja (chubby).

    17. I think I'll be following the general trend here of "the more exaggerated or inhuman, the less I like it". Obviously a lot of people here have voiced support for the dolls too but I personally avoid them. Some companies as has been mentioned stylize the body type very well and make it less noticeable, these dolls I have less of a problem with.

    18. I love it on more mature looking bodies, but it looks weird to me on smaller YOSD or bodies meant for younger children. Its such a womanly shape, it makes no sense to me. I really love DC and Darak doll bodies - those are my favorites. I don't love how it can make finding clothes tricky, though.

    19. I actually enjoy the sculpts. Although I do lean more towards something a bit more "realistic" I intend to get a DC Ada (I know they're sold out, I'm looking for another one floating around with a human hip) which does have that "pear shaped" reference. I personally think that you should get what doll you like. Some dolls look extremely influenced by anime, others are entirely realistic, others look more unique and a little strange, others look like mystical creatures. There's so many that I can't even name half of them.
      :)

    20. I really enjoy many of the Doll Chateau bodies because i like tall and lanky dolls. I think Leeke World dolls are also cute but i wouldn't go out and get one for myself. I do prefer the chubby dolls because i am a curvy girl. That being said i like big hips on a doll but more if they have breasts which makes them more hourglass in shape than pear.

I know my little sister wants a leekeworld Mikhala because she likes the chubby dollies. I think every doll is beautiful in its own way!
