Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. Mostly I don't care for any of the exaggerated dolls, whatever the shape. I like variety, however, so a mildly pear-shaped girl wouldn't bother me if it fit a character. I have small breasted, medium & large, tall & short girl dolls on my wishlist - variety.
However, pear-shaped guys, even mildly pear-shaped, do not appeal to me AT ALL.

    2. I don't have any plans to add a pear-shaped doll to my collection, but it's neat seeing variety in dolls. I'm hoping we'll eventually get older dolls, too. :)

    3. They don't really suit my fancy and I haven't really seen any of them outside of the stock photos, but I might would like them if I saw them portrayed well with a character. Otherwise, I doubt I'd ever own one.

    4. I love pear-shaped dolls (and woman ;))! The milkala body has such pretty lines and curves, its interesting to look at. The only thing is that they're a little tough to dress, pretty much the only thing that looks right on Ada (my MNF elf chloe/mikala hybrid) is shorty shorts or a skirt... I do look forward to companies hopeful putting in more "plus-size" dolls in diffrent shapes, like ones with overall thinkness or larger boobs/big hips...

    5. I think it's a bandwagon and everyone wants to jump in. There are dolls that I like and others that I dislike from this trend. However I don't see myself owning any as I always lean towards realistic-looking dolls (not to mention they don't come in a size I'd collect either, since they're all smaller than 60cm).

    6. I looove the pear-shaped dolls, especially pear-shaped boys. Their curves are so lovely. I'd love to have a Doll Chateau boy someday.

    7. I love them. Love, love, love 'em. :D There's actually a character my partner has who, outside of the dolly realm, has that small-boobs, big-butt figure, and Mikhaila is PERFECT for her. She'll be in our collection at some point in the near-ish future. (:

And DC's boys and girls are equally lovely--their tinies REALLY reflect Mikhalia's same exaggerated pear shape, and it's wonderful! I can't get enough of them.

    8. I think it can look really cute if it's pulled off correctly. I am really liking seeing the variety in body types.

At first I thought it'd be a bit odd, but after looking at the dolls I think I may have fallen in love with the body shape for a doll.

    9. I like the doll chateau boys though I did not consider them pearshaped due to how wispy and overall oddly stylised they are, I suppose. I do not generally much care for the trend either way, though. It is not immensly appealing, nor do I really dislike it. .

If a not-particuarly-exaggerated boy with that sort of shape came out I'd potentially take interest.

    10. Hmmm...not my cuppa tea! I can see that they do have fans though. :-)

    11. My only distaste for the pear shape trend is most definitely not in the shape itself, it's that for some reason people tend to think that pear shape = chubby = "oooh alternative curvy women to defy the supermodel stereotype!" (That probably sounds harsher than I intend it, but all the same...)
I can assure everyone that Mikhaila specifically has as stomach that's pretty much as flat as a pancake.

Also, it seems that-- now this is just my opinion-- Dust of Dolls has been jumping on a lot of companies for having specific pear shapes in their dolls and it's getting a little ridiculous. I recently saw yet a third artist be targeted and say that they've "copied" their Puns doll.

      Before anyone bites my neck on that issue, I freaking adore the pear shape and desperately want a Puns and pretty much every Doll-Chateau ever. ;u;

    12. Frankly, I quite like it. I'm a heavier girl myself and I like having the wide-hipped dolls to choose. However I think a lot of the girl dolls with wider hips should... uh, how to put this... have bigger breasts? It seems a little silly for them to have these petite ones and even a little creepy.

    13. I haven't been a fan of the pear-shaped doll-body-trend. I didn't like Leeke's Mikhaila at all, her body looked awkward and strange. I'm not sure about Leeke's other H-type body either. It reminds me of the Victorian ideal of a female body. I suppose if you were going to recreate some Victorian styles, this would be the body to get, since she already looks like she's been tightly cinched into a corset.

That being said, I did, fall in love with the Cerisedolls Eugenie. I've been trying to figure out why Lillycat's version of this body-type appeals to me, while Leekeworld's does not. The only thing I can come up with is the fantastical nature of the doll itself - it's a cat anthro - that makes the exaggerated nature of the body acceptable (to me).

So, for me, the pear shape is more acceptable and agreeable if the overall doll is a fantasy type - or if I wanted a doll specifically to be a Victorian-style clothes horse. Other than that, I don't think I'd ever consider adding one to my collection.

    14. I like stylized dolls, and before recently that stylization was mostly in the faces, so I'm enjoying seeing companies start to play with the bodies too. I would not like the pear shaped dolls as much as I do if they were actually done in a very realistic way -- I prefer the exaggeration and find it very interesting.

    15. I love the artistic-ness of the leekeworl and the new dollzone bodies!!

For me its because they are diffrent. Thats also why I love my dollzone girl (one the old body) because she's taller than most msd dolls, especially the girls. It gives her character!!
And not all girls are proportionate anyway...
I've always had a huge buttom, and a tiny waist. I even had a completely flat chest till recentlly (yay me).

Overall I love them and the character it gives them, only sad thing is i can't find a face i like to go with them.... Is it weird to have a headless doll and keep her that way on purpose??

    16. I think it really depends on the overall sculpt and design.

    17. I think some of them are interesting but I would never want to own one. I think it's good that there is an increasing amount of variety in the dolls we are able to own.

    18. Except that's the point of it being referred to as a 'pear shape'? :| Not all women who have wide hips have proportionally larger chests, some pear-shaped women really do have almost no breasts at all (just as not all pear-shaped women are even heavy set, it's a body shape not a reflection of how much excess weight is being carried). I hardly think it's really all that creepy or silly.

    19. THIS! Thank you. In fact if they did have a proportional chest to their hips then they wouldn't be pear shaped, but an hourglass shape.

    20. I love the pear shaped dolls and I had a Mikhaila before. The body was exactly what I was looking for but unfortunately I could never bond with the head. Sure wish more companies had that sort of body, but I guess that's what makes it special. Hopefully someday Leeke will release a head on their art body that clicks with me. With a tan option ^^; I really want a character who looks like Chel from El Dorado :)
