Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I find them whimsical and absolutely adorable in most cases. I don't think I'd ever get around to owning one though, mostly because sewing for them and finding clothes must be a pain.

    2. I can personally say I liked the pear-shaped female design long before it became a BJD trend, and before the DOD Puns. I think me being pear-shaped for a while had something to do with it.

I always like seeing something new and different in the BJD world.

Oh and riventiana, I adore "The Road to El Dorado" and would LOVE to see a Chel BJD! :D

    3. I really love the pear-shape trend! I'd like to buy one of my own soon!

    4. I like the fact that you can get dolls in such exaggerated shapes. It's interesting to see such things come to life which can't quite be done in a drawing. It also gives a wider variety of shapes to choose from which is never a bad thing, especially since there are so many different types of people than surely our dolls be the same way.I'm sure if you looked you could find a less exaggerated pear shape if you find that more appealing and that is another great thing about variety.

I also seem to hear 'pear shaped' put down as a bad body type(and hear girls wishing they could escape this body type) and I think that it being showed as something beautiful in these dolls is a great thing. I don't know if I would own one myself but I do agree with EbonyFeather that they have a feel of charm and whimsy.

    5. I think they're really cute - and this trend has actually been tempting me to add some girls to my collection. I like the look of bottom heavy girls, though maybe because I'm a bit boob-phobic. :P lol

And I think it's good that the industry is adding more body types to their repertoire.

    6. I really love this shape and the level of stylisation. I particularly love the waif-ish look of the Doll Chateau MSD girl. I am looking for excuses to use this body for one of my girls!! :D

    7. I'm not pear shaped at all, having no meat on me ;-; although my hip bones do stick out a ton e.e
but I do find the pear shaped dolls adorable, but I think they'd look too weird next to my future realistic shaped dolls
besides the doll chateau, but I want her because she's weird xD

    8. They are one of those things I enjoy seeing in someone elses collection but have no desire for in my own. Yesterday a friend who doesn't like the pear shape brought over her doll chateau girl head on a boy body. That makes a really slim girl with skinny!!!!! legs. It was an interesting look, too. She's going to mod on a small bust.

    9. Oh, I really like it! I'm not running out to buy one but I really think it's a unique look. I love the fantasy and diversity of the doll world, so I love seeing new things!

    10. The Doll Chateau ones are otherworldly! (A good thing!) I'm all for pear shaped dolls, being a pear shape myself (if the definition for pear shape is hips / bum being the widest part?)! ;) Some are a bit too exaggerated, it would be nice to see a very natural looking one.

    11. i like the pear shaped trend, partly because i myself am a pretty exaggerated pear shape. ^^

    12. I like the idea. I don't like my dolls to have large chests for one thing, and I like my girls to wear dresses, so I think they could be right up my alley if I saw the right one.

    13. I love them, although being a Mikhaila owner I can sympathise with the troubles of clothing the dolls due to their shape. I think the pear shape body has beautiful lines.

    14. I think it's great 8D!
I really love hips, and I think they're adorable!

    15. To me they are kind of magical. They are not my taste.
      I like some of them.
      I would not buy them.;)

    16. I really like them. Something with Mikhaila just intrigued me from the start!
My Mikhaila is a cake-loving teenage sweet lolita girl, thought that would suit her look pretty well. XD

I've read through most of the thread and there sure were some interesting opinions about them looking like sexy children, to be blunt.
To me though, dolls are fantasy creatures so they can come in all shapes and sizes. I really like that there's a market for new and innovative body shapes!
I wish for more shapes regarding the boys as well, and I think Doll Chateau might be the company to do it!

    17. My body type is pretty pear-shaped, and I realllllly don't like it. >_>

I don't find the pear-shaped body very aesthetically pleasing, so I can't say I'm a big fan of the trend, lol.

    18. I really love a lot of dolls classified here as pear shaped.
With the exception of tinies, they are the only dolls I want to adopt today.

Dust of Dolls, Cerisedolls and Doll Chateau are to my eyes : original, different, beautifully made and aesthetically pleasing. I just fell in love with them.

I don't think it has anything to do with the size of their hips. I would be glad to see more different body types.

Norms and proportions can be quite boring when you see them all the time everywhere...

    19. Well I do like the Doll Chateau's proportions... I think it works well for for them for some reason, since it seem that DC is not so much going for realism. However, I only like their adult sculpts since its not so exaggerated. Their tinies are just... not pleasing to me.

    20. I love both the DC bodies and the Leekeworld art body, and am hoping to add both a DC-Mini/tiny and a Mikhaila to my collection at some point ^^
I don't know what it is about them, but I can't fall for those too angelic-looking dolls, I'm more drawn towards the weird, normal or experimental-looking dolls, and those pear shapes are definitely weird/experimetal enough for me. I think they're beautiful.

Maybe I'd feel otherwise if I had that body myself, but being an over 166 cm girl and weighing 49 kg, I can't really relate.
