Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. Another vote for 'I liked pear-shaped figures before they were cool." ;)

Clothing can definitely be a problem, but I think it's worth the trouble.

    2. In general, I prefer the more realistically proportionate body shapes. But something about DC Bella captured my heart :aheartbea and I agree with EbonyFeather in regards to them being whimsical. I like that there are BJDs in every shape and size - lots of choices and diversity. :)

    3. I also tend to like the realistic bodies. I mean, some characters would be better with those kinds of proportions, but I love the beauty of dolls who look so realistic it's like you're looking at a tiny human. lol I do like diversity in BJD's though, so I'm really fine with any look.

    4. Hmm, not really for me. I'm not a fan of extremes in body shape. Not even the skinny ones such as the Doll-Chateau and Rosette Doll waifs. The pear shape... can be done nicely. I must admit, I had quite a negative reaction to Leekeworld Mikhaila. :sorry But after hunting around, I think Cerisedoll's Eugenie/Constantine aren't too bad.

By and large... no, I don't find the pear shape attractive. (But who knows, I've been known to change my mind!)

    5. I love it! I'm saving up for a Doll-Chateau Bella as we speak! n_n

    6. I've seen one lately and she's strangely appealing. I'm a big EID gal but even so, this pear shape was just eye catching...

But of course such a doll would mean starting a new wardrobe and to be honest just more STUFF hanging around to be in the way here in my little Doll Haven which has little room as it is.

    7. I think the proportionate pear-shape is fine, actually... my aunt kinda looks like that. What I called
Office-Chair-Butt-Syndrome or OCBS turned out to be politely termed "Pear Shaped" :)

    8. I loooooove doll chateau's bodies. Doll chateau is the only company I like besides iplehouse, actually, and its because of their super stylized twiggy limbed, skinny, weird bodies. ^^ I like either super realistic like iple or super stylized like doll chateau, and nohing in between. I'm planning to buy a male doll chateau doll someday c:

DC dolls remind me of the style of an artist I really admire. Her name is Iris Chen and her website is Deathful.net if anyone is interested. :P

    9. I'd like the pear shaped dolls more if it wasn't on the more extreme end of the artistic scale. I'd probably be interested in one if it was a more subtle approach.

    10. I really like Doll Chateau as well but more for the lanky skinny look than the pear-shape. I don't mind pear-shaped bodies that aren't too extreme or are quite thin like DC. Personally, the Leeke art body is too disproportionate for me. Especially when paired with small headed Mikhaila, it just seems unbalanced. I think it looks okay with the giant heads like Ariana or Florence that are as equally stylized as the body. Bottom line is I would probably never seek out a pear-shaped doll, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't get one if I liked the rest of the sculpt.

    11. I like a variety of fabulous creatures: I have two vampire dolls, Cheshire on Pipos. And probably why I like the doll's body with a pear-shaped, they are not realistic and very funny. Now I want to buy Leeke World Mikhaila, it will combine well with the rest of my dolls.

    12. No thank you kindly. I have to stare at an extreme pear shape every time I look into a mirror and attempt to shop for clothing. I don't care to have to deal with it on the resin level as well!

    13. I wasn't crazy about the pear shaped dolls until I saw the pictures of Doll Chateau's new SD girls. I think they're beautiful! So wispy - they look like they would float away in the wind.

    14. I agree with a lot of the above, Doll Chateau's Bella has captured my heart. Like what stolethetarts said, even for the DC Bella it's the wispy lankiness to them that attracted me more than their pear shape.

I think having a bigger variety of body shapes, though, would be nice...?

    15. Not my thing, I prefer willowy wispy dolls, with a fantasy flare. Pear shaped is too "real life" for me

    16. I think it is nice, more natural and looks more similar to my own shape. The one problem that keeps me from getting one is the fact that finding certain clothes to fit would be hard. I guess they could always wear skirts, but I'd like them to be able to wear pants. lol :sweat

    17. I wouldn't say I'm personally fond of it, but the bigger range of doll shapes and sizes the better, really. I like the DC bodies, but I'm not so keen on many of the others. A lot of dolls released with those kind of bodies also have very young, 'sweet' faces and huge, wide eyes, which doesn't really appeal to me.

    18. I love them. But then, I love all shapes (minus the childlike body types in the MSD/SD size range) the really unusually shaped bodies. I love the realistic and idealized body types from Iplehouse just as much as I love the Doll Chateau dolls. :) I love the Leeke Art Body, and Dust of Dolls, as well as Cerisedolls.

Lots of times I wish my own collection was more diverse, sadly I've sort of bought myself into a 'type' though ;)

    19. It's fine I suppose - the more variety in doll style availability, the better, I suppose.

But my personal reaction is mostly negative or "meh." Many of the pear-stylized sculpts have childlike faces, which doesn't really appeal to me on the whole. Child faces with mature bodies and mature body blushing....not for me. The Leeke line is the main one doing that.
The bodies themselves weird me out - I mean, I like curvy bodies, but the pear-shaped ones I'm speaking of are to the extreme. It seems kind of alien to me...

I would love to see more female sculpts with junk in the trunk as it were, but on a more natural level.

But it's neat to see a whole variety of different body sculpting styles come up. It's good to have choice! This particular trend is simply not for me ^^

    20. I really like this trend! It's nice to see companies trying out different body types (: I'm a fan of the awkwardly lanky and twiggish Rosette girls too... But I don't see myself ever owning female dolls, so I'll probably never buy one.
