1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Period Clothing? Wigs? Going out on a limb here...

Sep 26, 2008

    1. The American & French revolutions were not that far apart- so the clothing was almost the same, depending on what 'class' of society you belonged to. This link to Colonial Williamsburg's history section teaches you about what the certain items of clothing would have been worn by a person in society- and it's quite useful for dolls too.

      http://www.history.org/history/clothing/intro/index.cfm

If you search through out this link, you will see alot of photos here and there of people in historical costume. I know they sell alot of the actual clothing items replicated for people to wear- especially in the shops, so I would think they would have patterns for dolls also- they would just have to be scaled down. From looking at how expensive the people patterns are, they are very complicated and historically accurate.

I adored those Marie Antoinette clothes manufactured by DollHeart- and that doll. I love historically accurate dolls.

Here is a miniature artisan who used to make antique doll shoes- you could possibly commission her- www.thedollcobbler.com Her name is Sylvia and she makes 1/6 scale doll shoes- she will also do commissions. She works mainly in 1/12 scale but is open to doing anything, she would have to know the size. Her work is exquisite, and she uses actual leather skivver. Her luggage was featured in the movie Stuart Little several years ago.

    2. I may be a bit of a noob with dolls, but historic clothing I know. The best way to get historical clothing is to make it yourself, most of its not that hard. The stitching doesn't tend to be fancy, in terms of the stuff holding the fabric togeather, just watch out for the time era differances. Subtle things like pinted pattern over emrodery can mean all the difference. Colinial Williamsburg is a good place to go for patterns, if you can get there, but if you can't I could give you a list of books and web sites. Also, if you live in North Amarica, any historic fort will probably have human size pattern that can be scalled down. Hope I was some help.

    3. Costume Close-up: Clothing Construction and Pattern 1750 - 1790 by Baumgarten, Watson & Carr is published by Colonial Williamsburg. It offers schematics from colonial garments as well as construction techniques.
It was just reprinted and sells for $24.95 ( Some sites are selling the original 1999 edition for much more)

    7. This thread is brilliant. I'm, besides being a BJD lover, a bassoon playing Mozart and all things 18th century fan, So now I need a boy and girl to dress 18th century, mmm. I loved the links to Arcadia and the wig site. Marvellous. Thanks everyone.

    8. The whole reason I got into BJD collecting is to sew period costumes for them. I will post some photos as soon as I get my first outfit completed. Right now I'm stuck in the Tudor era (16th century) but will move on to 18th century as soon as I get my Mecha Angel.

    9. Hi!
I'm looking for historical-looking wigs, preferably but not exclusively 18th century ones, for my future Elfdoll Sooah or Hazy.

      Brands/models/retailers? Any suggestions?

    10. Court and Castle has some--see post #15 for link.

      -----

I just saw this thread in custom seamstresses--they have some fantasy-historical (not quite authentic) 18thC and pirate outfits for boys, and a gown for girls--

    12. Thanks for the kudos miss padawansguide! ;0) I do take commissions too!!

    13. if you looking for some colonial clothing try finding someone who does the normal size clothing for the Colonial Williamsburg CO. They might have patterns that you could scale down to fit the doll of your choice.
