Peroth head by Esthy Discussion!

I think this is a pretty good shot of how wide the philtrum on the original release is and how sharp the lips are.

Finally using my computer so heres the side view.

 

Yes that upper lip is definitely different. I can see it the most from the side...

It make his bottom lip look more sticking out to my eye. which no doubt because I'm too used to seeing a more protruding upper lip.

 

The mouth looks completely different :/

It now looks more like a smaller version of the Rad head than the original Peroth in my eyes.

 

Correction Kim the mouth is different. I know that it's not what you want to hear but it's the truth.

My Peroth had arrived and I snapped a few quick photos in comparison with two of my older Peroths.

Note: The face-up'd one has had his nose sanded a bit, I didn't know this untill I held it up to my other Peroths. uhhuh...

Eye balling them with my other Peroths, The new release is different in the mouth, like the upper lip was made smaller and less 'beaky' I don't mind this at all because I was going to modd my other peroth's upper lip to look smaller (The one with the modded nose)

Also, unless you had an older mold compare them directly, this new one seems to be a bit smaller?

 

He looks a lot different. The eyes as well and the shape of the head :/

 

That is... a completely different sculpt. In terms of overall size and proportion as well as his features being changed.

 

I think that he's fine, the differences make him look more mature then his previous release and I love how he looks.

If you have a problem with how he looks, then why don't you send a message to Ethy herself about your complaints? I am pretty sure that she'd tell you that she had intended on changing his appearance slightly.
I am happy that she decided to re-release him with a new body....better then not re-releasing him at all.

 

First off, hello everyone! I didn't know this was here!

Second, I have to agree he does look a bit different. I was curious since, having ordered a head as well, just how different it was. So, I did a quick overlay with the image from the first page of this thread and one of the official images off of Nobility doll. Here are my results. The first one is on a 60% opacity so the old Peroth is more visible and the second image is at 30% with the newer head showing more.


I agree that the lips have softened a little and yep, face has gotten a little smaller. However, the eyes lined up bang on but with just the one overlay, I certainly won't make any calls on this. Anyway, there's my two cents and I hope these can help people out. I'm still excited about my head, I've been watching my e-mail like a hawk.

 

Two cents: I'm down with it. Especially as it was intentional, it doesn't actually look that different/worse to me.

 

It's great that the people who ordered him seem to be ok with the changes, but it is quite disingenuous to release a sculpt that has been altered that much without actually saying it was. I was seriously thinking about selling dolls in order to buy a second Peroth because I've always wanted a spare, and if I had received this updated sculpt, I would have been livid because it's not the doll I thought I would have been purchasing. I personally think this new version is missing all of the charm of the original, but to each their own.

If I ever try to finally buy a second one in the future, I will definitely ask for a lot of pictures and make sure the seller is clear which version they're selling.

 

I completely agree with this. They should have mentioned that the head was re-sculpted. If I had known that I most likely would not have bought one. In all honesty they should not have even labeled this as a Peroth re-release since this doll is not Peroth at all. Not to say that this version isn't pretty but he is certainly not what was advertised. I put mine back in the box and just pushed it to the back of my closet because every time I look at it I feel so disappointed.

And I don't understand why some people think we should be happy because they could have just not re-released Peroth at all. In my opinion they didn't re-release Peroth, they released an entirely new doll.

 

This kind of attitude is reminding me very much of a few topics that had been discussed before namely: "You must release perfect doll" and "Sense of Entitlement to Dolls?" threads. just to name a few.

I know that your disappointed, but it's not the end of the world.

 

Why is it considered "entitled" to want the doll you paid for? No, it's not the end of the world. But I have been trying to obtain this doll since 2008 and I finally thought I was going be able to buy him and then it turns out he's not the doll advertised! So yeah, I am a bit heartbroken and angry.

I didn't want a "perfect" doll, I wanted a Peroth. And as I said this version is pretty but he is certainly not a Peroth.

And I'm sorry you were offended by my opinion on this matter.

 

I honestly don't see a huge difference. They're pretty subtle. I think it's a little mean by saying he's not Peroth. If Esthy modded him, then I think we should respect the artist's wishes. Sell him if you have to.

 

I'm wondering if some of it may be due to the age of the molds used to cast Peroth, it may have softened details and iirc molds will shrink with age, which could also explain the size differences. I'm not sure I see enough differences to be completely sure it's been resculpted.

If it truly is the last time they plan to release Peroth, they may not have been able to offset the costs of making new molds.


Maybe someone with more expertise with casting molds could chime in on this? I'm not even remotely an expert.

 

I agree with this observation. Perhaps someone can ask DM why the sculpt was modded?

 

It's quite possible that DM didn't have the original master and had to use a resin head as the master which would account for a smaller head and softer features.

 

IMO, he has only been refined. The overall features really look the same and he still got that cocky expression, which is what I love the most about him. The lips look a bit fuller from the front and it's something that I admired about a couple of modded Peroths around here. Long story short, I'm very pleased with the refinements (I wouldn't call modifications because, again, IMO, they're very subtle) and the fact that the face is smaller makes it even better, because he'll look a lot more realistic (:


On the other hand, I'm very exited to take a look at that body! I also got one because it seemed so perfect... I just hope it won't be a huge let-down like their Emotional body in terms of posing. =/

 

The body was designed and produced by Distant Memory, not Nobility Doll. Not that that would necessarily mean it couldn't be a huge let down.
