1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Picking eyes

Jun 4, 2010

    1. Ooh, she's so ephemeral...that would leave a lot of room for artistic interpretation...which is always fun. I would also like to have a Helena/Anti-Helena from Mirrormask, one of my favorite stories. :drool Anti-Helena would also need those solid black eyes, like Morpheus. Let me know if you find them, Christant!

    2. I also think that the Kindly Ones would be awesome. Heck, all the Endless, too. Desire already LOOKS like a BJD. I don't know how I'd get the smell of peaches. Maybe a dot of BPAL on a cotton bud inside a scent locket.

    3. We must be on the same wavelength this week, Christant! I was just recently searching for any kind of oil-free perfumes, because I wish my girls could smell nice, but I don't want oil anywhere near them. :shudder A locket is such a great idea!!! Man, you are on fire with ideas. :thumbup

    4. (If you don't like a locket, because the guy's a really no frills sort, then do the cotton ball but put it into one of the muslin bags you sometimes see with dice or other things. They're sold in bulk on ebay, are sturdy and wash well. I know a bit about scents, and I use a scent locket because there are people in my church who are chemically -sensitive to perfumes.

    5. I love using Safrin Doll's site for eye shopping as there are photos of the eyes in the doll and if customers submit photos with the eyes they purchased they are also there for reference.

    6. You should definately check out OscarDoll they have amaizing eyes and they are worth the money and the waiting. Another company for amaizing eyes must be MigiDoll. :)

    7. Are there companies who do custom eyes?

    8. @GlitterGorex, Migi make their own eyes?
As far as I know they also just re-sell them (incl. Oscar eyes)?

@Christant: there are indeed a few who make custom eyes.
Are you looking for a maker who is willing to change their own designs for you, or someone who makes complete custom eyes with your design?

For the latter I really like Enchanted Eyes "Unique" eyes system.
They make completely custom eyes from your references.
However, depending on the design they cost from 80-120$ for a pair of urethane eyes.

Most of the smaller urethane eye makers on etsy and the like allow for "customs" among their designs, i.e. different combinations, pupil sizes and so on.

    9. Thanks for all the great tips, everyone! I have decided to place my first eye order with Captured in Glass (as I can't imagine a more perfect match than the pair that you found for me, Christant...thanks again!). I will post photos with both pairs I chose when my girl arrives and I have finished her face-up! :dance I can't wait to check out the places that you recommended, too, Mystina Rose and Glitter Gorex. Thank you! My girl is going to be so spoiled with all this love from the community. ;)

    10. My favorites are Soom and Dollshe. Soom's eyes are squishy and fit my dolls really well (the majority of which are Soom so I'd hope so XD), and Dollshe's have such great detail and more realistic iris sizes. Both catch light well which is one of my main requirements.

    11. Not the sparkly ones, they say the ''normal'' looking eyes are theirs. Now the sparkly eyes are oscardoll eyes.

    12. Hmm, that's interesting, because at least the eyes under their "Eyes" tab are not made by them.
They offer Oscar, Enchanted, the usual Glib Acrylic eyes and the glass eyes are also very common (have seen them in different stores, even before Migi started having their proper shop).
I don't know if some of their doll releases include self-made eyes though, I'm not following them very much.

    13. Everytime I sift through these forums I find some new amazing store, thankyou Shainingu, I just found the exact eyes I needed!

    14. I've been through a few pairs of eyes for my doll and I'm still looking for the right eyes. Just ordered a new pair from Denver Doll Emporium. Hoping they're the right pair. There are some amazing eyes on Etsy, but I hate waiting for them to make them and then ship them.

    15. Absolutely...waiting for the doll is hard enough! ;)

    16. Maybe they are sponsored from other companies and sell their products. I dont really know.

    17. Eyes, really are special choice for your bjds.
My first bjd came with plastic faceted eyes in flat kind of aqua color. The eyes didn't seem to have that "depth" of expression, that cuteness of look I wanted for my first bjd. Noting the size of the eyes I searched for glass blue eyes and found them for reasonable price. The plastic eyes I removed from my bjd and replaced with the new glass eyes.
Though the glass eyes can be heavier for the bjd's head than the plastic ones, posing the small resin head at an angel can be a problem. I'm glad I bought the glass eyes, the upgrade gave my bjd the depth of look I wanted.

In the past, when I had the money to spend, I bought sets of glass eyes in different colors for my other bjds. Even though I've not switched out the bjd eyes I do have a choice of pair of glass eyes for my Luts boy head I plan to do face up this year. Which color of eyes to select? It will be interesting.

    18. I wanna try those squishy ones from Soom! :D So you recommend those? Not too annoying to keep clean? I just imagined all of the little fuzzies floating around my crafty house getting stuck to them easily. I have to be really careful when I'm doing face-ups, because there just seems to be a lot of that tiny "fuzz" in my area...and I don't even have pets! Nothing worse than having to take a straight pin to your dolly's beautifully progressing face! It's like nails on a chalkboard against that Mr. Super Clear :aeyepop:...ewwwwww. ;)

    19. Yes, many of my dolls have the squishy Soom eyes and I definitely recommend them. I don't have an issue with fuzz or debris sticking to them, I just wipe the eyes before putting them in if they have smudges but after they are in I haven't seen random fuzz or debris :)

    20. Thank you, AmberLeigh! I will have to try them now. :thumbup
