1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Positive Experiences within BJD fandom

Mar 23, 2010

    1. I get that too.
My mom thinks I'm crazy for wanting to spend so much money on dolls.
And she gets frustrated when I try to explain why I love them and the idea of them so much.

    2. I have met some of the nicest people and I regard them as real friends. I know the MP gets a bad rap sometimes, but I met 2 of them that way and they introduced me to a lot of others on livejournal, so I'm very grateful for that :)

    3. I look foreword to the monthly meet-ups we have in my area. I have made some awesome friends there. Everyone in that group is so supportive and nice. They have helped my and my girlfriend a lot in the past year and a half since we first met. They were nothing more then welcoming even though we were dolless, clueless newbies.

I had a friend invite us over last easter and she tightened our dolls, and gave my friend a pair of peepers ^^ Another friend has given us both some pieces of clothes they had and didn't want, thats how my puki got her favorite pants! They are all awesome, and really interested in our future dolly plans and projects. I wish we could meet more often.

Plus, I LOVE the workshop sub-forum, people there are so willing to help in an emergency, or give tips or critiques to people of various skill levels. I've gotten help on photography and sewing here, plus I found lots of coll pattern ideas for my friend who knits and crochets.

    4. For starters, being in the fandom has allowed us to gather and be with those of our kind. Of course, it would be lonely thinking you're the only mangaka/otaku/etc. in school or anywhere else, and just the simple act of having your BJD sit there on top of the table in front of you helps you find them.:) They'd walk up to you and talk so happily with you for who knows how long. Yeah sure, it's an expensive hobby but we find friends through it and lets us forget our problems for just a little while.

    5. The only one I may think of, is for my lil' Kyo.

When I saw the Dollzone promo for Leo and Luna, I fell badly for Leo but there was no way I could afford the price asked to get him for free ( without mentioning no doll from Dollzone really please me )
Starting this day I've haunted Leo pics on the site and was so sad I couldn't get him.
My friend that I know since a few years, (real life and out of the fandom) was trying to find a way to get the lil' Leo, she finally ordered her doll (sooner if right) and gave me Leo as Xmas gift.

At first I didn't know it at all, she told me while a fight between us XD

Now the simple fact to see Kyo or to poke his ears relax me and makes me feel fine.

Sadly since a few months I almost have none contact with my friend.

Maybe also my Beyla ? I sent a message to SOOM about the doll and mention my birthday, more or less related to doll I agree XD but maybe two days after I got a shipping notice and Alexiel was at home two days after my birthday o-o even though I've never asked them something as : send him for my birthday please ! It was so far from this LOL but he was a great surprise ! But SOOM never answered my doll related question anyway XD

    6. I absolutely LOVE it when I get to see the work of other people who like costuming detail/realism as much as or more than I do.
I also really like how we kinda have an unwritten law of being generally sweet and kind to each other. It's very encouraging for a shy person.

    7. I've met some really nice people through this hobby. The meetup groups in my area are great, and we have a lot of fun (I'm leaving for a meetup here in a few minutes, actually). Truthfully I have far far more positive experiences with other hobbyists than negative ones--I think it's just that when people launch into horror stories, those are what tend to be remembered rather than all the fun stuff that happens but doesn't get talked about as much.

    8. hear hear!, I would like to read more stories. :)

I've had another one, in which I once sold off my first boy, (Gasp!) only to regrets it later. but the buyer had informed of a minor damage, which I never noticed, and was returned to me. (I gave her the full refund of chors.)
I cried with happiness upon getting him back. I'm never gonna let him go again.

    9. As someone very new to DoA, this is a really great thread to read. I've already found so much helpful information here, and even though that is an indirect kindness, it is very cool to see how much enthusiasm and helpfulness so many provide. I look forward to hanging around here for a long time and attending some of the meetups, once I've successfully bankrupted myself on this hobby lol.

    10. Positive? That's really easy.
Before I was really set in getting a BJD myself, I went to meetups during Anime Expo, and a local meetup here in oregon. I have to say, the people there were the sweetest to my friend and myself even though we didn't have dolls! I swear, it was one of the warmest experiences I've ever had in a fandom. We were able to hold and handle resin, and asked questions a mile a minute. No one got angry with us either!
They really helped us in deciding that we did want dolls. > u <

    11. I had a really nice experience with non-doll people. When I just stepped into the airport carrying my doll to catch my flight home, this small group of people came up to me and commented how beautiful my doll was. They were very polite and didn't crowd me or anything, it was a shame I couldn't talk to them any longer, because at that moment I had to rush off because I needed to use the bathroom very badly, the bus that picked me up for the plane came very late.
