Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I seem to be stuck with just girls, no matter how many boys I try to get! They just never work out and end up being traded or sold, where I've only ever had one girl not work out for me.

    2. I prefer male dolls over female dolls. I dont know if I would ever but a girl doll unless I really fell in love with it.

    3. I realize I got now four boys and two girls....Saving up for my next girl. (Debating on either making her a Puella Magi like Madoka Magica or a demon who appears as a ballerina...)

    4. I really want to have a boy doll, but so far all that I've ordered have been girl dolls. I think I am just far pickier about guys - and usually I find bodies that I like but not heads or vice versa and I'm too scared to try to mix them up yet lol

    5. I used to like boy dolls before but now i switch to girls after seeing lots of cute girls others have. :P
I think I will still get both gender...that makes my family more complete! :)

    6. I prefer boy dolls to girls. I'm always looking at the boy sculpts rather than the girls. It's easier for me to come up with boy characters than girls. I don't mind if they are a little androgynous. I like girl dolls too. They are easier to buy clothing for or at least have a variety of clothing. I just have to remind myself to look at the girls when I'm interested in buying a new doll.

    7. I more into the androgynous dolls. Dolls that are gender fluid. So I look at the flatter chested girls and not over muscled guys. Its all because finding clothes that fits is so much easier for flat chested sculpts. Fawn is my only busty female, and most of the outfits I have gotten her look odd in the chest area. 8/

    8. I don't know if I will ever get a male doll, as they are so difficult to shop for.... I currently have four dolls of the fairer gender, but only three of them do I consider to be part of my collection. After realizing that 60cm is just too much doll for me, I started out with two Iplehouse JID dolls (Benny and Tatiana), and while I've made due in dressing them, I can't believe how lovely and easy it is to dress an Unoa girl! There is so much to choose from! Because I really do like to have clothes that suit each doll's "personality," I don't know that I could handle having a male doll... nothing I would choose to dress a boy in is something you can buy readily.... I need to become a much better seamstress before giving my heart to a boy!

    9. I prefer females... I'm more on the liking of "cute-cute"...

    10. I only buy SD or larger male dolls. Even the one girl sculpt I've been looking at is going to be a male. With girls I feel like everything's been done to death. I really hate modern fashions, there's only so many ways to make a dress. Guys only seem to get casual hoodies and jeans types or suits. It sucks if you buy clothes but I make all mine. So it leaves so much room for creativity. With my cyber boy it's really just seeing how many things I can make while covering the least amount of skin as possible. Totally unintentional I swear. I can't seem to help it, I really like the look of the male body so I can't seem to cover it up completely. I also don't bond or relate well with women IRL. I was always that girl that had more boy friends than girl friends. Anything typically feminine like make up and I completely glaze over. Not that there's anything wrong with the typically feminine things, I just don't relate and feel like an alien.

    11. still not sure about the preference since i have both, but definitely prefer aesexual body to girl body ...i guess any body type without big bust will do for me...

    12. Right now I have one girl one boy and I'm saving for a second boy, but for me that's no indication of prefering one doll gender over another it is simply because Dollshe is discontinuing sculpts. I guess I'm fairly even, there are a few more female characters I'm planning to shell, but the difference isn't really significant.

I do however find that when I'm browsing for no specific reason I am drawn more to the female sculpts.

    13. I definitely prefer girls over boys
      I don't think I've ever really seen a boy doll I've wanted.

Plus there are more pink, cute, sparkly clothes available for girls!

    14. A coincidence I have been thinking about this topic lately. I like both, I own dolls of both genders and I love them all so much, but I prefer male dolls. Among my resin crew 2/3 of the total are boys vs 1/3 of girls. That fits my likes, but also the fact that the quantity of characters I wanted in BJD was clearly higher in the case of the male ones.

    15. I like both, but I find it easier to find female sculpts that I like.

    16. I used to like only boys and I kind of still do but I want a girl...I still haven't found the right mold...there are many boy dolls I kike but I don't really like any girl now as of yet. I'm looking for my sweet Aurore, she has to be MSD...someday.

    17. I'm really discouraged to see all the casual misogyny going on in this thread. I do understand and respect a general preference, but I think pointing out how much you "don't get along with/don't like/don't bond with" women in real life is a bit excessive for a thread on doll gender preference.

I think there's very special and great things about having both genders. I like androgynous dolls a lot for this reason.

    18. I want to design girl clothes. I set out to have almost every possible female body, maybe not to keep, but get acquainted and find the ones that were somehow right for me. Didn't expect to have such a hard time letting go of any of them. Then I thought they might be happy with as least one guy in each size. Then I started noticing very artistically done male face ups. And a local friend has some very cute boys. I've not made much progress yet in selecting what my area of love and expertise can be whittled down to. Not even between boys and girls. >_<'

    19. Boys get a bit neglected in this house. I just seem to find female dolls capture my imagination more - even my alien doll who is a plant and technically neither male or female is represented by a female doll and her character is more feminine than masculine.

There are lots of male dolls I think are lovely, but I've learned by now that if I brought them home they'd sit gathering dust while I play with the girls. It's not a conscious thing, but it's a strong preference and it's better for me to go with it rather than fight it.

    20. hmmm never thought about this. but looking at all of my dolls (50-60 of them) i do not have 1 male! I wonder why that is. i think i just love the frilly dresses!!!!
