Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I definitely prefer male. I have 27 dolls currently, and only one is female! None of my boys are girly boys. This is partly due to growing up with Barbie, American Girl, Baby-sitters Club and all the other predominately female type dolls. I always longed for boys, and variety in boys. I'm fulfilling that need now! I also just tend to not relate to or care for female characters.

    2. I adopt resin boys only. I've been in this hobby for 5.5 years. I do this because it easier to manage and build their wardrobe as they can share clothes and accessories. I think it's harder to handle both genders. Concentrating on just one gender enabled me to be more skillful in observing sculpts and faceups for that gender. I enjoy dressing boys more than girls. If I had a resin girl, I would turn her into a soldier, carry weapons and fight a war. See, it's better I stick to boys because I like to write boys' stories.

    3. I have both sexes. But I definitely prefer the boys more. Most of my crew are boys! I like it's mostly jeans and tees with them. The girls are pickier.

    4. Me too. I only plan to have about 5 dolls total in my collection(well, I'm going to try to stop there lol) and so far all of them but one will be boys. I'm not really sure either, I just like the muscular tone of the male bodies compared to the girl's curvy body. Though, the girl outfits are much cuter.....

    5. I am only in boys (you can tell from my wish list lol) but I also like one girl from souldoll yeah... but I just like boy dolls lol.

    6. I think so far my preference is for girls! Though I have a pukifee pio coming home soon, and I plan for him to be a boy (despite the genderless body~) Generally I find girls to be more fun to dress up? There are more options, and I guess I'm just a bit of a girly-girl too~

    7. I like the dolls of both genders equally))

    8. well i have the same tendence, i love boy BJDs maybe cos i´m a girl and i will always feel more fascination for a boy.

Of course, female models are gorgeous, there are amazing dolls out there and its a fact that there will be more female accesories, wigs and clothes, is easiest to customize a female doll.

    9. I prefer girls but I want some boy dolls too. However, I feel the boy dolls are a little more boring, they don't get much attention, they don't have multiple outfits, etc. My girls get all the attention, the photoshoots, the new outfits & wigs, etc. My boy dolls are more like display pieces that need to be dusted off. My girl dolls get played with.

Honestly, I love having both because my guys make a statement. I just find my girls much more fun.

    10. I started out only wanting girl dolls, and totally refused to even consider a boy doll...until I ran across a DZ Mo, and couldn't resist him. Since then, I've added 4 more boys, but the girls still outnumber them, 15 girls to 5 boys, with 3 more girls on layaway.

    11. For me, I think I prefer girls more. Just because I know what I like - accessories and wigs etc. And I just haven't found the right male doll for me yet. I don't know if I will ever buy a male doll, but I do still browse through the 'male' section whenever I am looking for dolls.

    12. I will have more boys than girls (have one boy at home, one boy and one girl on order), but since I use them as character representations in a story that's boy dominated that's probably going to be the general ratio. That said, I can't wait to receive my girl! :)

    13. Currently I prefer females, as I'm a pretty girly girl. Easier to choose for, and I am generally drawn to the looks of females over males. If I ever end up getting a guy, which I'd probably try, I'd have to work hard to keep all those girly things off of him.

    14. I like both equally but in the future i think i would end up with fewer boys than girls since right now i only have one boy and three girls. It would take me much more effort to create a male character than a female and since I'm lazy and unmotivated most of the time. For me its not hard to make a girl look pretty and be content with her

    15. I only have girls so far, but that's because I'm scared of getting a boy! (Seriously!) it sounds stupid but I'm scared I wont bond with him and won't like his body. It's weird though because I'm a cub scout leader and they're mostly boys so why should I have a problem bonding? Who knows! Anyway, I'm hoping to bite the bullet and order 1 (or 2) boys I have my eye on this week.
Also should note, the first girl I got, I dressed as a boy. Short hair, boys clothes etc, I'm not girly myself so I guess I was scared of that too!

    16. When I first started this hobby, I preferred the boys to the girls. I liked looking at male sculpts, the guys' clothing. Most of my "dream dolls" back then were male. Not many of the female ones at the time did much for me. But as the years progressed, I found it shifting to the other side. Now, most of my "dream dolls" are female, and I find myself coveting and shopping for girl clothing.

I wonder if maybe it's because the overall aesthetic has shifted to something more my style? I prefer more mature sculpts, and most of the sculpts (that I can remember, that is) back then were younger looking, more teen than adult. While the younger looking dolls are still out there, I feel like there are more mature sculpts to choose from nowadays. Same thing for the clothing styles. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

However, I'm really big on balance, and would like to ultimately have an even ratio.

    17. Definitely boys! I love the look of muscle, and most girl bodies don't have even a hint on muscle on them. :T I would love a muscular girl doll, but I've yet to find one with poseability I'd be satisfied with.

    19. Just recently, I bought my very first girl. She's a little one too. I prefer male dolls, and manly male dolls at that. Maybe there just hasn't been an older female doll that has really taken my heart away like my boys have.

    20. When I first got into BJDs I was determinated that I wanted my first to be a boy, but after searching and searching, I realised just how beautiful the girls were. And now I favour girls.
