Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I prefer boy sculpts more then girl sculpts. I'm really picky when it comes with girls. But I really do want a few girls. I'm just waiting for that "awe" moment otherwise if I purchase a girl sculpt I don't care for to begin with I won't bond with her and just end up selling her.

    2. There's only one girl I intend to get and it took me a long time to find the right sculpt. I don't get too excited about girls 'cause I prefer deal with boy characters, I guess.

    3. Hiya, Im pretty much open to both gender but if it was between a girl or boy, I would probably choose the girl ...

    4. I tend to lean toward the boy dolls... I think the reason for me is there are so many girl dolls out there that it s refreshing to see the variety of boy sculpts. Since they are more uncommon to me, I tend to gravitate to them more...

    5. I have only girl dolls in my collection. Why? Cause I have a lot of real boys in my family :)

    6. I prefer girl sculpts, and I'm not sure why.. Maybe it's because i'm pretty girly myself, I like to dress up, wear frilly clothes and heels. Anyway, I am going to buy one or two male dolls in the future. I absolutely love the Migidoll boy-sculpts, so.. :)

    7. I'm still in the girl's side! I love browsing girl dolls and their clothes but not guy dolls..

I'm wondering if female owners generally prefer male dolls based on hormonal instinct? I'm quite surprised that most people here actually prefer male > female

    8. I used to prefer boys but I'm also interested in girl dolls and recently there has been an influx of girls on my wishlist -and the dolls I'm getting too!-

    9. Hormonal instinct. *headdesk* That's right up there with the "surrogate child" shtick. No, there's no generalization to be made from an extremely limited sample of responders in 1 thread. Female owners are as likely to have female dolls as male dolls, and male owners are as likely to have male dolls as often as female dolls.

I personally have no female dolls because I have no use for women used as ornamentation in my own home; I get plenty of that from the mass media every day.
Many of my female collector friends have only girls; but some of them collect only boys.
All of my male collector friends have tons of male dolls; but most of them also have tons of female dolls in the same collection.
Most people I know (IRL and online) have both.
I wouldn't go digging for any magical Freudian connection up in here.

    10. So far I only have one female doll and another girl on order. When ever I doll shop I only look at the girls. When do my character painting they are always female, so I like my doll to be like them. I love dressing them up in all the things I could never where- so really boy dolls hold no interest for me. I was temped to get a boy body for the fairyland event head but I know I will end up with another beautiful girl.

    11. I think this is why I prefer girl sculpts as well. I like both but I always lean more towards the girls. I only have one BJD so far (on the way) and she's a girl. May have to do with my love of Barbies as a child as well...loved dressing them up and such :)

    12. I prefer male sculpts over girls. I just tend to look at the guys more when I browse dolls but I'm way less picky when I see girls that I kinda want. xD I don't think I'll ever get a girl doll though because the clothes are so expensive and because I'm pretty girly, I love to dress up and I could just be using that money on clothes for myself. xD

    13. hi!~

i definitely favor male dolls over girl doll more. Dun get me wrong, I love girl dolls too! they are extremly pretty but ill nvr wan to own them most prob cuz in real life, i never really like the female gender, despite being a girl myself lol, always thought girls are pretty n at the same time, scary OTL... so yea most prob why i nvr gt a girl doll cuz i wun click with thm anw~ >___> PLUS im a huge yaoi fan girl so i nd boys to.... yea... *sense ppl judging me* ok ill flee now *runs*

    14. I definitely prefer girls over boys. There are lots of gorgeous boys, but for some reason i can't many that i adore. Perhaps it's because i see few dolls that lie between "Doe eyed innocent" and "broody supernatural boy"? (which are my two boy dolls, oops) It isn't bad, i just think i'd be more attracted to something more versatile, for lack of a better word.

    15. I definitely prefer the girl sculpts over boy sculpts. I'm not sure what it is but I'm yet to own a boy. I do hope to own at least one boy at some stage but am waiting until I see one that I must have which just hasn't happened yet

    16. I currently have 2 girl dolls(rs lan and a dollzone event bunny) I had a sd rs dai but I recently sold the body and bought a male body for him.
I also had a dz ani 2 but I recently traded her for a dim annabeth head with face up,the head is going to be on a boy body though.
I always thought I only liked girls but in the past few months I got to realize that I like boys/men dolls more.
I'am also currently saving up for a migidoll-fantasydoll ryu hybrid,I dont see myself to buy new girl(s) anytime soon I think I'am satisfied with my 2 girls that I have.

    17. I have a couple more boys than girls but I don't really have a preference; the only thing is that I tend to go for SD boys and MSD girls, though I do have an MSD boy and SD girl. I don't know, I think I just like certain dolls regardless of gender and my collection just ended up this way

    18. I find myself looking at girl sculpts and buying them a lot more than boy sculpts. I just love their (usually) sweet faces, and great clothes you can find for them. I also really like their bodies, they're usually so aesthetically pleasing and perfect to look at. :D Does that make me sound creepy? xD

      However I'm not gonna lie, when I got my SD boy, I LOVED him, and still do! He's just so different! x3 But.. incredibly hard to buy clothes for ._____.;;

    19. I definitely prefer girl dolls to boys; the ratio in my collection is about 6:1. It's easier for me to fall for girls but it doesn't mean I dislike boy sculpts, it just takes more for me to feel really wowwed by one. I would definitely like to include more guy dolls in my collection though!

    20. I only have one doll so far and she's a girl... I expected to want mostly girls because I love to make clothing, and women's clothing in general has a lot more room for embellishment and fanciness.

That being said though, I find that when I'm browsing and looking at pictures of dolls, I seem to gravitate toward the boys. I do want to get one someday...
