Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I'm not opposed to the girl dolls, but I do tend to gravitate to the boys when I am searching websites for dolls. I had only girl dolls growing up (not bjds) so perhaps there's some sort of novelty to the idea of a doll that is a boy.

    2. I also seem to find myself wanting more girls than I do boys. I have seen boys of all different sculpts and builds in person but none have ever had me want to buy them. In my head i'd rather spend the money on another girl than a boy, but that's just me :kitty2

    3. I'm only interested in MSD size right now. With that, I'm really picky with my doll faces. I find girls with ease but finding boys is really hard for me when looking at MSD.

    4. Now I love both girl and boy dolls because for me they both have their own advantages.

    5. I grew up with barbies, and being that Ken was, unvarying and sort of boring, finding out there are all these lovely boy dolls out there, I'm now very much interested in the boys over the girls. I doubt I will ever own a girl.

    6. At the moment I have only boys dolls. And for my final three dolls only one of them is a girl and she'll likely remain my only girl doll. For the longest time I gravitated toward the boys purely because a lot of my favorite OCs were male, and that's who I am basing my dolls after. I have one female character I adore, Atlas, and she is the one who I'll be shelling into doll form. Now however, I do admit that I'm nervous that once I receive her I'll be tempted to purchase another girl simply because I love girls fashions way more than I love boys, and Atlas won't look good in everything. Though I do have two boys who tend to wear girl clothes (one from a character stand-point and the other out of necessity since he has a very petite body and most male clothes simply won't fit him) so perhaps I will be able to stick to my guns and keep Atlas as my one and only resin lady.

    7. I have characters in stories that I plan to portray through these dolls, and the ones I wish to use are split half/half in the gender binary. In the case of sculps, I prefer males over the females, because, quite honestly, I have only fallen in love with Doll Chateau female body sculps, but I have a lot of preferences with male sculpts of multiple companies. I'm not really sure as to why this is...

    8. Girls, definitely. :)

    9. I prefer men in almost everything I do. I roleplay manly characters, I choose to play men at games, I only have male pets, etc. On my wishlist, nine out of ten dolls are men. Even though I think it would be more fun making clothes and accessories for girls, I have only one girl planned right now. Funny enough she's planned as my next doll, but as I feel right now I can't see my life with any more girls than that single one x)

    10. I prefer boys, since I'm not that good with girl clothing :D
I also have trouble in finding girl dolls which I really like. I just find boy molds easier to get attached to!(I guess?)

    11. When I first fell into the world of BJD I was only interested in boy dolls and so, my first doll was a boy.

I then assumed that I wouldn't be getting another (we are rather poor and it was under special circumstances that I was even able to get one in the first place). Then about a year later I got it in my head to start selling off some of my old stuff in order to raise money for another doll. The idea didn't go over to well with my family until I suggested getting a girl doll. My family always thought my boy looked odd (like a girl) and the idea of getting an actual girl this time went over better. So my second was a luts lishe (which my mom loved).

After that the years went by and I was focused more on my work then anything else (freelance artist) and I didn't spend quite as much time on my dolls. I did however fall into the world of anime figure collecting which in tern led me to Volks Dollfie dreams (the Saber sculpt especially). Then when the newest Sabers came out for pre-order I jumped on the chance to get one. When she arrived (Saber Extra) I was totally stunned by how wonderful she was, especially with her ability to pose. I had a lot more work at this time and I was able, financially, to get another DD (Neris)... she was then followed by the other Saber Alter (2nd version).

I then found myself with one boy and four girls... and never would I have imagined that when I first started with bjd. However, shortly after I fell in love with luts new tan boy 'claus' which I found for sale on the marketplace. So now I have two boys. But I also have a kid delf girl on the way along with a boy zuzu lio. So despite my love for all the pretty boys out there, I still find myself with more girls (much to my mothers happiness). But I love all of them dearly, so I guess I don't really prefer one gender over another anymore. :)

    12. I find myself finding female sculpts that are perfect for my female characters much easier than finding sculpts that are perfect for my male characters. As a result, my female dolls far outnumber my male dolls, though I sort of really want that to change, because it makes me sad that I can't find dolls to be more of my male characters.

    13. Even though I was attracted to the girls at first...I find that my plans for male dolls outstrip the females.

    14. I also single out for yourself girls, but I have a big and impossible dream. This SOOM CHROME.

    15. Oh yeah, I definitely prefer boy bjds over girls. My first was a boy, that was no question, and my second was a girl because I wanted him to have a girlfriend. And I wanted to makw pretty clothes! I was surprised how much I bonded with her. But my 3rd was a lovely boy, and my 4th will be too. I just prefer boys as characters and bjds and stuff.

    16. well i only have yosd girls, but i dont really want a boy. I already had trouble finding some clothes i like.

    17. I think I prefer boy dolls, because I find them easier to choose from. There are so many beautiful girls, I just get lost and confused :D Girls have the best clothes though.

    18. I thought I wasn't anywhere near as keen on male dolls as females. I found a few i actually quite liked but no where near as many and felt wierd about actually buying one. Then I was looking on Doll Chateau and was really inspired to work on a male story character i was struggling with. Suddenly I decided I needed to 'shell' him after all and hadve been falling more for male sculpts ever since. I love the extra jointed adult and kid male DC bodies. I like the girls too, a couple of sculpts in particular but i don't have an idea for characters for those yet. My grail doll is also sort of male. It would be a SOOM Fog Elf with the male head in grey (i'm pretty sure there is a difference in the cheeks and chins etc and it wasn't just the face-up??) but i don't mind what body it would be on. I just love those ars and the little teeth! :aheartbea

    19. I only have one doll so I suppose I can't be sure, but I think I prefer mostly girl dolls... When I see a girl sculpt I think about all of the fun ways I could dress them! For some reason I just don't get the same feeling with boy dolls, I don't think I would be very good at picking stuff out for them at all.

    20. I prefer lady dolls, but that's just because the man ones I've looked at aren't the sculpt I'm looking for and will probably never find.
