Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I prefer girl dolls. I have a lot of girls and a couple of guys. I still buy both genders though, it is not that I've put a limit on the guys. It's just that I prefer sewing dresses, and prefer to put my dresses on girl dolls.

    2. I prefer boys, don´t really know why. Maybe I think there easier to handle.

    3. I prefer boy dolls to girls. I have never in my life really liked dolls. BJDs are different for me though. Probably because I can have boys over girls. So all my dolls are boys and always will be.

    4. Totally prefer girls. Boys are cute, but I only find one single boy doll that I like >< but he's so much expensive @__@ so just no. Maaaybbbbe in future, when I'll buy all the girl dolls I want... but really maybe XD

    5. I prefer girl dolls. I've had a boy once but he didn't last long because it seems like it is much harder to find clothes for Lati Yellow boys than it is for girls. I wish that would change!! ;-;

    6. Except for the tinies which are all girls with only one boy, my dolls are pretty evenly split between genders. I like diversity plus I can pair them up for display or have little groups of the same gender doing something together.

I will go thru periods where I only want boys or girls but eventually it all works out pretty equally in the end.

    7. Girls! the clothes, hair, makeup.....it's a girl thing. The only time I want a boy doll is to have a boyfriend for my girl doll, and then I realize I just need to get out in the real world and find a suitable one for me. : )

    8. LOL Starling, ya that. I found my suitable guy though a few years back (lots of trial and error haha). However, since I know how hard good guys are to find, I figured the best approach would just be to get my girl a bestie instead, and maybe a cat...

    9. I only own boys right now. Girls are so pretty but also a lot to maintenance! Maybe that means I prefer boys?

    10. at first i just liked the boys but more and more im thinking about getting a centaur girl~ i've been designing ideas again :P

    11. While there are several female sculpts that I like and would someday like to buy I am All about the male BJDs. I've always preferred male over female, not entirely sure why but that's the way I've always been. I even call half of the My Little Pony characters 'he' lol

    12. Most of my characters are males so I would go for the male dolls.
I also have a couple of androgynous characters so I have to look for girly-boys.
And then I have a couple of token females....those are hard to find becoz of so many options out there.

I have one YOSD female, two giant males, two male SD17s on the way and a male head coming. So yeah...right now I'm partial to males.

    13. Boy dolls seem so strange and foreign to me! Even as a kid with groovy girls/barbies/Polly pockets ect.. I was never really interested in boys! I love some of the sculpts but I've never been interested in owning one for some reason! Maybe I'll branch out someday hehe :3

    14. Hi everyone, I ordered my 1st doll a few weeks ago, Bella from Doll Chateau. I love her elegant sculpt and she is the only doll I've come across that I would be quite happy to leave with no clothes. Since then I have been looking around at other dolls... Already looking into my next purchase (whoops) and I find myself drawn to the female dolls / bodies and can't envision myself owning a male doll. I'm a straight female but they just don't appeal to me in the same way. I'm not saying that the doll is in anyway sexual, just that I'd rather see the female form
rather than the men's. I just wondered if this is something other people have encountered.

Do you tend to own only own one gender of doll and if so, why do you think that is?

Hope I don't sound to creepy!

    15. I don't think it sounds creepy at all, don't feel weird about yourself! :p I think I feel absolutely the same way, I find female dolls much more attractive than male dolls, even though I'm a straight girl myself. I don't think I'll ever own a boy doll.

That being said, I don't see dolls as sexual subjects at all. I just think the female body is more elegant and esthetic than the male body and female heads are often cuter. (those are also reasons I love certain works of art that depict women, like Waterhouse and Mucha, I want my dolls to be kind of like that)

I think it depends on what a person is looking for in a doll which gender he or she might prefer. I you like your dolls to be cool or rough, boy dolls might be a more obvious choice, whereas if you want cute or elegant dolls a girl doll is probably better for that.

    16. That's not creepy! I totally get where you're coming from, because it's pretty much exactly how I feel, except in the reverse. I think that female dolls are lovely works of art, but I just am not drawn in by them like I am to male dolls, and could never see myself owning a female doll. For me, it's hard to explain why I feel that way, but it's just how it is. I definitely understand what you're talking about!

    17. I have girl doll's, because I find it easyer to make clothes and face ups for them. :)

    18. Not creepy at all!

I actually have a fleet of boy dolls and only one girl at the moment -and she happens to be a DC Bella! I'm not sure why it slanted that way to be honest.

    19. I own both male and female dolls, although the majority of my dolls are male. I am more attracted to male dolls in general.

    20. I prefer male dolls:) I have female and male OCs though, but when I tried to make one of my girl OCs into a doll I didn't like it as much as with my guys so I sold her and decided to keep dolls to personify only male OC's
