Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I also have only male dolls! I don't think it's odd or creepy to prefer one gender over the other; from what I've seen, many, many collectors seem to have mainly girls or mainly boys. It's just personal preference. :)

    2. At the moment I seem to only want boys. A little girl is going to be in my household soon, so we'll see if that influences me any. There are a handful of girls that I've seen and thought "she's gorgeous and I would love to have her" but it's the boys that make me go "WANT WANT WANT WANT" and make me fight my urges for the sake of my credit card.

    3. I am so glad to hear from all the people out there who love their boys. I love my boys. I thought it was because I had sons for children, but there could be an argument for the opposite. Thought maybe I was a little off, so thanks for letting me know that you love your boys! I am not alone!

    4. I love the idea if a boy doll, and I do have some boy dolls that make me swoon, but then when I get to dressing them I get kind of frustrated.. Like it feels like the only thing I can dress my boy doll in is a shirt and pants, it stifles my creativity! With girls there are so many options and so many frills and bows and pink I just feel more at more and comfortable with girl dolls. I still want a boy though!

    5. I think there's plenty of room for creativity in dressing boys... My next guy is going to be something of a fashion disaster sometimes, I can feel it.

I'm sure I've weighed in before, but... well, while I now have some off-topic girls (and boys, of course), my resin crew is still all male, and my saving-up plans have switched from 'I should get my first lady' to 'Ooh I love this guy!'... So I definitely feel for people who wind up with single-gender collections in spite of intentions otherwise.

    6. Well, girls outnumber the boys at the moment. And the only boy is just a head (a body will be his soon...I hope). But I don't think I have preference to having one gender over the other, not yet anyway.

    7. I only have girls at the moment, but I think that's because there are only female Dollfie Dreams for now. When I'm looking at resin dolls I like men more, so when I'll be getting my first resin doll it will be male :3

    8. Thanks for everyones replies, it's put my mind at easy! :D

    9. I'd want male and female, but as certain characters I want

    10. I prefer female doll over man, mainly because I feel female doll is more versatile than man. You know, just like little girl who prefer barbie than ken lol
I like how female face sculpt can have a nice, angelic smile while male sculpt need to have this ':| ' look to masculine and cool, if they smile, it can become a feminine sculpt.
But maybe it just that I haven't seen male sculpt that caught my interest so I'm choosing female doll.

    11. Same here! Gosh I really love boys.. Though the boy I have now crossdresses.. Mm. I just prefer beautiful boys to girls.

    12. The first doll i wanted was a boy, and i really wanted to get him gorgeous mate but whenever i would start to look at girl dolls i would get distracted and end up buying another boy.lol
I had 3 boys and one girl, whom i was never able to bond with and ended up selling. But i adore all of my boys.lol

    13. I currently own two girl dolls and ordering another girl soon. I've always had female characters as well... just never really bonded with a male character. I have seen some gorgeous boy bjds but its always a girls sculpt that captivates me. I think the issue too is that a lot of the guy sculpts can look very feminine. I would be able to bond better with a more masculine/older build but those generally are bigger and more expensive. I really like the yosd sized girls and they fit my price range better then a SD+ male.

    14. I am an all girl kind of girl :) I am not drawn to boy sculpts, as beautiful as they can be they just don't interest me.

This could change but for now I definitely prefer girls. I don't even look twice at the boy sculpts.

    15. For SDs, it's mostly boys I like. For MSDs, I think it's either girls or a tie...

    16. It has been so fun to read through everyone's posts and thoughts on this.
I seem to prefer girls, as I only have one male doll. I do have another male doll on my wishlist, however, and I am hoping to get him soon so my poor Colin doesn't have to be all alone. XD
I think it may be that, in general and dolls aside, I seem to prefer developing female characters. I guess, being a girl, I feel like I can get into their character's psyche better. I do like male dolls, though.. I just feel like I can't identify with them as well and I feel I do a poor job of understanding them. Even with Colin, I don't feel like I have a very good grasp of his character.. but I do love him so <3
Another reason I think I prefer girls is that I like all the clothing options for them. I am super girly myself, so I fall head over heels for all the cutesy girly fashion.

    17. I definitely favour the boys! My only doll is a boy, and if I ever did decide to get another one, it would be another boy. I can appreciate the girls as beautiful, but for me personally I wouldn't own one. The boys are just more appealing to me, and I prefer writing male characters.

    18. I am a mix. I love both, but when I am BJD shopping I find myself leaning mostly towards male sculpts, as they seem more interesting to me. Yet in other toy collecting, I collect a lot more girls. That may, however, be a biased sample, as in most lines there are many more girls than boys.

    19. I only really ever feel like I want to buy girl dolls, I think it's the cutesy-ness factors swaying me. I know there's cute boy clothes too, but I just really love playing dress up... But if I were to get a boy, it'd have to be a tiny doll for sure <3

    20. Now I have bunch of girls and just one boy doll. I bought him last year impulsively, but still haven't finishing his face make-up.... Which means, I am definitely female doll owner.
