Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I prefer girl dolls--dresses are easier to make than pants.

For some reason, I haven't found a boy doll that appeals to me enough to want to buy--they either look too masculine or too feminine, I can never seem to find a balance. I've never really been into Korean boy bands or j-rock/visual kei, so I think it's that the style of the lip-gloss and eyelashes are too much for me...

    2. I prefer boy dolls because they appeal to me. Especially the more mature ones. As of recently I've been getting into the younger looking boy dolls. I got a couple of girl dolls that I thought I liked, but I just couldn't bond with them. I recently got another girl doll and she just ended up being a totally different character and style than I had predicted. It surprised me, and I love her as much as my other dolls (she's the only girl right now xD).

However, when looking around I still tend to move toward the boy dolls. I still try look at the girl dolls to see if any of the sculpts stand out for me.

    3. I prefer girl dolls. I can relate to them more and being someone who loves shojo I always have female main characters.
For me, female dolls inspire me more and there is a lot more I can and would like to do with them. With boys I have very particular tastes and styles I like them to be in so there isn't much wiggle room.
When I do get boy sculpts I will basically be getting them for my girl sculpts.
But maybe that will change once I do get a boy.

    4. I feel like I couldn't bond with a girl. I'm not one to go buying and selling dolls too much, so when I look for a BJD I sort of have to fall in love with the sculpt in order to buy it. I want to make it worth it. And it seems like all the sculpts I've fallen for have been guys. Figures. I've always wanted a girl, but I can never find that one sculpt and I don't even know what I want. *_*

    5. I prefer girl dolls because I dress them in outfits which I'd love to wear myself but can't for any reason (wrong climate to wear shalwar kameez, wrong dresscode to wear a ball gown, too old to wear loli, too busty and manly to wear a kimono/qipao/ao-dai, too scared to wear our own national costumes which we have many of, too sane to wear this or that... etc).

    6. I prefer girls. I've had plenty of dolls who I ordered thinking it'd be a boy but when they arrive the first thing I do is put a dress on them. I even had boy outfits prepared once but nope. I think it's because I like dressing them up really cute and girly and there is just so much more options for girl clothes.

    7. I prefer boys and I don't think I want to own a girl . I think girl is cute but I like cool boys more . Wigs and clothes for girl dolls are more expensive than boys too .

    8. I personally prefer boy dolls, I know that the girls can be really pretty but somehow I just don't have that push to actually get one (yet?)

    9. I prefer girl sculpts. I've only got one dolly, who is female and I love her to bits! I can't see myself ever getting a boy, because I've never seen a male sculpt that I like, and male sculpts just aren't to my taste. I've looked at more 'manly' looking sculpts and more feminine ones, and they just don't appeal to me.
There are so many pretty female sculpts, and clothes and wigs, that I like and even of I did ever find a male doll I liked, the girls would always come first. :)

    10. Definitely girls. I don't want boy dolls... to me their clothes are boring (I love dresses, corsets, etc etc) and I also like girly wigs, and the female silouhette seems prettier to me. But I will never say never... I've seen some male dolls that are really appealing, but those are usually the rrrreeeeally expensive 60 cm ones so I just shrug and move on :P

    11. I prefer boys. I'm picky about the look of my dolls, and most of the girls remind me of porcelain baby dolls, which creep me out. I have a few girls, but they are more anime style looking.

There are so many pretty boys out there, and to honest I love looking at them. I also love traditional Asian clothing, so I can dress my boys like that as well.

    12. I love BJD man, not a boy .... :-). They have sharp features ... :-). I like real face. :-)

    13. I prefer boys in most things I do and for me the reason is very clear. I see the beauty in males the way people see them in females and was a little frustrated that only females could glorify the typical standards of beauty. Despite the fact that I myself loves feminine clothes and cute things mostly always associated with females, I like my own female characters to be more diverse. Thus I feel like I could only incorporate very little of my female OCs because it's hard to find sculpts/clothes/accessories that aren't overly effeminate. Though I can say that I don't scoff or judge people for owning females and I actually like seeing peoples female dolls. I just knew it wasn't for me :) I want one female doll based on sculpt alone and I hope to surround her with many brothers she can have fun with! ;)

    14. I have to say that I'm liking the boys better. They can be quite versatile (and girly).
For years there were only boys in my crew, but last year I gave in and bought a little girl. When looking at girl dolls I always drift off to the males again. Although most of them are very pretty I just don't feel a connection.
I plan to buy another girl in the future, but that will probably be the last one. The guys will still be outnumbering the girls

    15. I've only collected girls and though I do like a couple of male sculpts, I don't foresee myself bringing any of them home.:sweat

    16. I feel the same way! I love the boy dolls so much...I don't like the girls for some reason. If I see a cute one i think that's cool, but I wouldn't buy it.

    17. I personally prefer boys! However, I would love to at least get one tiny little girl because it's easier to find cute clothes and outfits for girls than boys, especially for the little one.

    18. I don't have any preference. All of my dolls are based off of characters that I have already made, be they male or female. It's usually easier for me to find a girl doll to match my characters rather than a boy doll though. I tend to be pickier about the boy dolls if it tells you anything.

    19. I think a topic like this was made a while ago. I prefer drawing women and female dolls, but I want to have my own boy doll one day.

    20. I somehow feel like I posted to this thread a long time ago, but I searched my own username and nothing's come up, so I guess I didn't really.

I prefer boys. I think it's partially because I got into bjd by way of anime/manga -> BL/yaoi -> saw some site (Robin's Egg, I think?) with bjds and some BL-ish photos, and was intrigued. Though I don't have much interest in making my own dolls into characters with relationships, I still love that aesthetic from BL of the boy with a pretty face.

Lately, I have been wavering because I keep coming across lovely girls' clothes. But I can't justify to myself buying a doll just for that!
