1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. Only one male BJD has stood the test of time, though I've had two others (and one OT anthro owl boy) in the past. So many are very wonderful too look at, and I find myself more curious about them again lately, though I don't have plans for a lot more dolls in general, so I don't imagine I'll suddenly be overrun with resin testosterone anytime soon.

    2. Yes, but in reverse - the majority of the time it's female dolls that appeal more to me. That's not to say I would never have a male, though I don't currently, but the girls and ladies just seem to fit my aesthetic sense more in terms of BJDs for some reason.

Ooh, this is me. My boys' personalities are from my fairytales.

    4. It's like when I saw Dracula is when I realised then I wanted to own more male doll. I bought a female first but the inner desire in me always scopes the males. it's all amatter of taste. not better or worse. just personal.

    5. I want pretty much only boy dolls except for one girl doll (Mystic Kids Leona). I enjoy looking at pictures of other people's girl dolls but I definitely prefer boys.

    6. Even though I only own a girl, I prefer boy dolls! They're just so cute!

Question to all of you who own boys: Where do you find patterns for them? 100% of the doll pattern books I've seen consist of patterns for girls. I guess I could always check out the human patterns and scale them down.

    7. I only have had female dolls-- there are a few male dolls I am interested in, but I have a lot more fun with female dolls. Whenever I draw, it is the same way... only females.

    8. I've got some girls (although, without actually doing a count, I'd say they make up less than 15% of my collection), but as much as I like dressing them up and looking at them, it's the boys that I favour and lavish attention on.

Why? I honestly don't know. Perhaps it's because I collected Barbies for a while and, in one way, the girls remind me of Barbie - beautiful to look at, but I don't really want to play with them. The boys, however, are something different entirely - and they're the ones I want... with me.

That said, regardless of whether I do anything with them or not, I could no more part with the SD girls I've got now than I could part with (most of the) boys. :)

    9. Funny, cos I automatically go for the female sculpts but then I was worried about ever finding a male sculpt I liked (which I have, generally going for the Iplehouse guys). I don't know why I would be worried about finding a male doll, I don't have to get one, but I always felt I would want at least one.

    10. When I first started this hobby, I wanted nothing but cool male dolls in sharp suits and trendy fashions. I thought my preferences would never change, but after going through so many dolls, I'm realizing that all the dolls I currently enjoy are cutesy girls in fluffy dresses! I think I've lost all interest in male dolls...

    11. All my dolls, incoming dolls and planned doll are female. I tend to fall in love with female sculpts and I have yet to find a male sculpt that causes as strong fall in love reaction as some female sculpts. Of course males are nice to watch and I enjoy looking pictures of them but I really don't know what I'd do with them.

    12. It's really equal for me! I love both, just like I really like all the different sizes. I want to have variety in my doll fam xD

    13. This is true about my collection. Of course, girls are more interesting for individualization, but most of the female dolls leaves me cold. I don't think thаt reason for this choice is rooted only in aesthetic preferences.

I have a big problem with the choice of a boyfriend, because visual appeal is very important to me. So I explain this disproportion as compensation and sublimation.

    14. So far girls out number boys in my gang (I only have one boy so far). But I think this is likely to change over the next couple of year as I have noticed it is mainly male sculpts I have been looking at recently.

Although I have one or two heads and bodies on order at the moment, the next complete doll I am looking to order is the Resin soul Dong who is a 70cm male.

    15. I pretty much feel the same about owning a male doll.. I really only look at females because I like dressing my dolls very girly, and I dont want to own a girly boy. Not that I think theres anything wrong with that, its just not my preference.

    16. Wow. It seems the overall preference up too page 6 at least, is boys. :D I can't say I am upset over the development, because the same rings true to me as well. If I am ever reading/writing/watching anything, I always feel more in tune with the guys instead of the girls. But, while my boys outnumber my girls by 5 (soon to be 7) to 2, I still adore them just as much. :) For now, male characters have dominated my mind, but the females are starting to put up a decent fight.

    17. When I first discovered the hobby I only liked girl dolls, but now boys are my favorite.

    18. At first I really had only thought of having girl dolls, for me they are easier to find a style for lol but recently I have been getting ideas for boys so I have one boy on the way now. We will see how that goes :D

    19. I prefer male dolls. I have a thing for liking primarily male characters in fiction anyway, so only buying boys doesn't suprise me xD

    20. I definitely prefer female dolls (and don't get me wrong, I almost bought a male doll from Iplehouse just two days ago). I think the reason I do is because I'm a fashion design major and I specialize in women's fashion. I just see more possibilities (clothes wise) for female dolls, but I'm sure that great clothes have been made for male dolls too.
