Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. My collection is a dead giveaway as to my preferences -- males males males. XD Admittedly I have a couple of very androgynous males, but I wouldn't consider them 'feminine' per se. Just...androgynous. All the rest of my boys are all boy all the time. I do have one girl on my wishlist -- one of my grail dolls -- but I don't foresee myself getting any female doll other than her. If I can get her. Which remains to be seen. Because my taste demands that I pick one of the hardest-to-get dolls out there. Go me. I just don't find most feminine sculpts attractive, and the characters I wish to shell are predominantly male. I have one female character I want a doll of, and one I might like to do in the future, but my collection will remain majority male.

    2. So far all of my dolls are girls, and I never thought I would even want a boy. Lately, though, I find myself really wanting a boy, but I'm having a hard time finding one that I feel is right for me. So, there may be a boy doll in the future, but for now i'm happy with just my girls! :)

    3. For me it's based enormously on the sculpt and because of that, I've been leaning toward male dolls. I find their faces, on the whole, more interesting. Most of the females I've seen are very beautiful, but they feel almost bland to me. I suppose I should think more about what I could do with a different face up to give the girls more character.

    4. I have a preference for girls. The only doll I have, and all the dolls I plan on getting, are female, save for one doll, and he's pretty low on the totem poll. I personally just don't like male dolls because I have no idea how to dress them or style them creatively. I have a tendency to want to just put them in business casual and leave it at that (which is in fact the plan I have for the male doll on my wishlist). I do like looking at them though because I find it interesting what other people do with them. I just personally wouldn't know what to do with one stylistically, since I like putting everything in dresses and that's not very manly :XD:

    5. I have all girls except for one boy. I think I enjoy the girls most because I can live through them vicariously. Dressing them up in gorgeous wigs and outfits is my favorite part of owning these dolls :)

    6. It's weird to thinkg that I don't want any boy dolls, I have seen some brilliant ones, but I just feel like if I have money for a doll I would buy a girl one, I wonder why. I am really girly and love making and buying girly things, maybe thats why :s I wish I had a friend who would buy a boy doll so I could see one in real life though lol!!

    7. I definitely find myself having a preference for girl dolls. I would love to have a boy doll, but I just like dressing the girls and getting different wig styles for them.

    8. I've always had a preference for male dolls, and always brows for (esp. 70 cm) boys. However, whenever it comes time to buy them, I always find a girl that I absolutely can't pass up. So now, despite past plans for a male-dominating family, I own three (soon to be four) girls and one boy.

    9. This is exactly how I feel as well. I've always preferred male sculpts, and I know it will always be that way (even though I wouldn't mind having more girls). I just find the boys more interesting to look at, and I have more ideas of what direction I want to go with them.

    10. I like the aesthetics of both genders, really, but if I had to choose I'd probably have to say I prefer female dolls. Of course, I have a few boys on my wishlist, but they're definitely outnumbered by the ladies. It's not just this way with dolls either, most of my characters over the years in general have been female. I don't know if it's just because I understand girls better(being one myself) or what.
Plus, like a few others have said, I think the girls are a little more fun to shop for.

    11. I prefer boy dolls.. i do plan on getting a girl doll someday, but even then its only so my boys can have someone to pose next to in pictures instead of just two dudes :P

    12. I suppose I kinda prefer boy dollies. It's a bit harder for me to find a girl that I want most of the time.
I think it's a lot harder to make an unattractive male than it is to make an unattractive female.

    13. I think both are amazing. Just literally I the sculpts and features of both are amazing. Beautiful guys or beautiful girls both float my boat!

    14. Well, I haven't really bought many yet but I'm torn :p

    15. I prefer the girls over the boys because the more clothes and shoes I can choose from :D

    16. I like both genders, but i prefer males. It is just because I tend to make more male chracters than female characters. I only own one girl too, and when i browse dolls, I dont even bother to look at females haha.:)

    17. I own only one bjd boy. Girls are more fun to dress up

    18. Please excuse me if this has been posted before, but I just had a question.

Do you guys and gals love one gender over the other, or just can't seem to find guy/gal dolls you like? For some reason I just can't find a boy doll I can get myself to purchase... Anyway, opinions?

    19. Oh! Sorry, thank you for the link!
