Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I only own girls, however I do plan on purchasing a boy in the near future, but that's only because I love the face sculpt and it's feminine so I'll be putting it on a female body. I've never really been fond of the male BJDs, maybe it's because they're somewhat detailed

    2. I feel pretty much the same way as this. (Except I guess I prefer the challenge of finding "womens clothes" that fit on my male dolls and look good.)
I have 7 (and one on the way) male dolls, a genderless-but-will-someday-be-male doll and only one female doll.

    3. I think I like girl dolls better... I've only ever had two boys but I have four girls, and most of my planned dolls are girls, too.
I just think they're more fun to own! Although I do like having a moody boy to slouch around and wear suits, saving me from the perpetual cute of my girls. xP

    4. I prefer the faces of boy dolls over female dolls. Girl faces, like others have said, are not as interesting. I have nothing against girl dolls and would not mind having one or a few but haven't found that one that I really want. It is strange because my characters are mostly female but I tend to lean toward the male dolls >.< I think it's easier to make them into my ideal character and connect with them. =]

    5. I prefer girl dolls and the majority of mine are girls. They're more fun to dress and style to me. I like some male dolls, I own 4 and there are more on my wishlist, but I can't seem to commit to actually bringing them home. When presented with the choice of a girl or a boy, it's the girl that comes home. :p

    6. I prefer boy dolls to girls mostly because the majority of my characters are male. However the girls I do own I'm super picky about, and they have to be absolutely perfect to me. With boys I'm more likely to impulse buy because I know it won't be difficult to characterize them, with girls I really have to think out where they fit into the story or they'll remain pretty blank.
In the end while I prefer boys, I certainly appreciate the girls and the possibilities they offer.

    7. Haha, I prefer boy dolls over girl dolls, although I wouldn't mind getting just one girl.

    8. At first I only loved girl sculpt, Iv' got my IH then I fall in love with male scult and I've bought all males then. But I've got few girls on my wishlist.

    9. Hmm... Well, I only own 2 dolls so far; one of each gender. But I actually don't feel particularly attracted to one gender versus the other. I kind of see the sculpt and think "ooh, I want that girl/boy"! I do notice, however, that I seem to be pickier with girl dolls.

    10. I totally prefer girls ... I own two girls and I plan to get more and more ... I just like to make them wear cute dresses, skirts and lovely bows °///°
I never thought of getting boys ... :/

    11. I'm going to say boys. I thought Asian bjds were really awesome in the fact that they include adult boy dolls lol. I guess ever since I was a teenager (girl) I always wanted a perfect boy doll that I can dress and make him the perfect guy LOL. Before this, the only dolls I had ever heard of were baby dolls like my grandmother collects. This is the first time I've truly embraced a doll collecting hobby. I lean mostly toward boys, but am not opposed to having girl dolls. I sort of have to have a specific idea for girls before I buy.

    12. Personally all I have are boys (I will have 5 in total once the two slackers arrive in the mail), they fit into my story and they can all share clothes, for the most part. I think part of the reason why I prefer them and am drawn to them is because most dolls for children are female, there are very few male dolls so for BJD's to have males, and males of such detail, makes them seem more "special" in some way than the girls, just because they are an oddity and a rarity in the doll universe as a whole. I only ever make male sims really, I make male characters when I play RPG's and other games (or keep all male parties in final fantasy when I can) and I read books with main male characters. I also really like yaoi so it does have a slight sexual undertone to it that I appreciate the male form. Another factor is that I feel somewhat threatened by the girl dolls. I am not really cute and frilly and though I can appreciate the girls for their beauty, as well as their outfits, I wouldn't bring one into my home because I would look at her and feel less beautiful myself, if that makes any sense. And I suppose one could argue that I don't have to dress a girl doll in frills and dresses, but then if I'm just going to be putting her in pants and t-shirts, why not get a guy who I can actually bond with, rather than a girl that I would probably have difficulty connecting with because she is "perfect" and I am not.
I am not saying I won't ever have a girl, but if I do it will be a MSD or smaller, never an SD. Children are fine, and I would have no trouble dressing them up in cute outfits and things of that sort, like a baby or something. That would be fun I think if I could find the right doll and she fit into my stories (perhaps as a friend for my tiger boy or something down the line), but no "women" I guess you could say, not unless I find a special lady that really makes my heart stop the way some of my boys have done.

    13. This is hard for me..Well no, its easy. I love boys. I'm not sure why, but whenever I write/rp/whatever, I find I enjoy my male characters better. So that being said, I do like male. HOWEVER. I find that the options available for styling/hair for girls to be a tad more extensive and customization is one of my favorite things about this hobby. If anything, my doll family would consist of all boys, save for maybe ONE girl. We'll see what happens, lol.

    14. I originally wanted a boy, for years. I ended up with a girl. Now we have five girls, another on the way, with no signs of a boy. I still really want a boy. I think I'm going to promise myself that my next doll will be my boy!

    15. I only havw boys but have always wanted a girl. I'm toying with the idea of hocking them all and just buying a few genderless breeds so I wom't feel like I'm missing out one way or the other.

    16. I used to collect only girls, but I now have two SD boys! It was a sudden development last year and really surprised me. I must admit the "sexy" boy shots were what attracted me to collecting the boys... naughty, me. ;)

    17. I lean towards male dolls
though, I have thought about getting a female! It's just that the males seem to interest me more, and I tend to only look at them when going to a doll site.

    18. I like the boy dolls to girls because I like their sculpt more than the girl sculpts. I would like to buy more girls but theirs not that many that I like.

    19. In almost everything, I've preferred guys over girls and this is no different. I wonder if that's a girl thing...

    20. I prefer girl dolls! I'm exceptionally picky about facial features for male dolls for some reason, and only recently just got my very first boy. I think I just have a lot more fun playing dress-up with girl dolls!
