Preferring one gender of doll over another

Dec 9, 2012

    1. I used to prefer boys... until I found girls I like! Now I have 12 dolls: 7 boys and 5 girls, pretty balanced^^

    2. I have 3 girls and it's not that I don't like boy dolls, I'm just extremely picky when it comes to them. While I go for cute, not very realistic-at-all type of girls, I want my boy to be as anatomically correct as possible. I need to find him "attractive" physically for me to even concider them. Most male dolls I've seen might have a pretty face but then, when I look at the chest joint, for example, and it's too doll-like then it's a turnoff immediatelly. The only doll boy doll that has been able to catch my attention so far, is S.I.D Eric. He's simply perfect!

    3. I've always preferred my female dolls; never found a male sculpt I'm particularly drawn to, I have an easier time writing a convincing female character as opposed to a male one and men dominate pretty much every medium to begin with so it's more than justifiable to let the ladies shine for once.

No idea why anyone would think female dolls are "uninteresting", don't have enough clothing variety or whatever. Clearly not looking hard enough or approaching them with pre-conceived notions.

    4. I think in the beginning I preferred girls because I'd grown up playing with Action Man, so I had and still have tons of articulate men. When I saw these dolls I knew I'd have to get girls. Finally cool girl dolls!

    5. I prefer female dolls. I enjoy playing with them, dressing them, and taking pictures of them more than I would male dolls if I had any on hand to play with. I certainly don't find male dolls to be something that I want.

    6. My only doll so far is a girl, but I think my next one will be a boy. I don't really have a gender preference. It really depends on the way the doll looks.

    7. I used to have only preferences towards guy dolls until recently when I found a girl that really got my attention because she was the 'perfect' look and style I wanted. Though most of my wait list are guys :X

    8. I love both. I don't have much preference for either gender.
For now, I have 2 boys, a boy head, and a girl body. TuT I have 3 girls in my planned family though.

    9. I used to collect fashion dolls, but the male fashion dolls were usually dissatisfying to me in some way (weird hair, unattractive face, anatomical incorrectness, boring clothes) so my collection was 90% female dolls. When I discovered bjds I really fell in love with them. I find it really satisfying that even male bjds have beautiful faces, that they're anatomically correct and that you can get a large selection of clothes. But I will probably get at least one bjd girl - after I've collected a few more boys!

    10. When I started looking al bjd's years ago I only looked at the girls and found two I would like to buy (CP Soony and DOD Shall).
In the end after more planning and looking around my first doll was a boy, a Dollshe Saint.
I never bought the Soony and the shall finally became a pre-loved tender version.

      At this point I own:
      10 girl dolls,
      5 full boy dolls,
And 3 floating Boy heads that are waiting for bodies.

So when I finish all my dolls boys and girls are both well represented.

    11. I've found that I prefer girl dolls. I find it easier to give them characters and much easier to dress. I have one male BJD and he's currently pretty much naked (rejecting everything I give him), wigless (although he has 3 wigs but no permanent) and most annoyingly; he is for the most part personality-less. He just won't work for me frustratingly. I don't know if it's the doll itself or because I can't work with male dolls. I have plans for 2 more male dolls though, and their personalities are pre-determined.

(With that one undressable boy I'm suddenly understanding why dressing boys in girls clothes is a popular practice here. My next plan is probably going to be to stick him in florals.)

Still, even with those two new boys I'll still have an overwhelming number of girls when/if I get everyone.

I find a lot more female BJDs appealing over males. The males always seem very young looking in MSD size and won't suit my group. They look around 15 and my girls are 18-19+. Luckily I have one plan for a young male, and he'll probably go on a much shorter MSD body.

I honestly think the reason a lot of people genderbend dolls female-to-male is because of the lack of variety in male dolls. A lot of them tend to have that pinched anime look I don't like and looking by other peoples collections they don't like either. I find there are more mature looking girls than boys available. DIM Gayane would make a wonderful boy I think, and I've seen lovely boy DIM Annabeths.

    12. I don't think I could have a girl... ever. I just wouldn't know what to do with her. I have this thing with not even thinking about buying a doll when I don't have a character first. And and since I only have male characters...
I wouldn't even know what to sew for girls...

    13. I prefer females- there seems to be a greater variety of clothing and wig options for them- plus I have two male children and a male dog, so I have to achieve balance somehow! :)

    14. Well I do certainly look at girls pictures online, but in the end I'm always getting boy dolls. c:
I find them more unique, more appealing.
I do own two SD gals tho, and I want one ore two YOSD girls in the future
but the next doll will definitely be a boy again! xD

    15. I prefer the female dolls, bc their dresses & outfits are just so lovely & feminine. I thought I wanted a boy, but it turned out that I should have waited. I love looking at the photos of the large male dolls all dressed up in their outfits.

    16. all of my dolls is boy , though girls is beautiful and cute and i like girls outfits and wig too but i don't want to have a girl doll, so sometimes i made my msd boy became a crossdresser hahaXD

    17. I was curious about this topic too because even though I have seen quite a lot of photos of male dolls.... when I have been shopping for clothes online, I am having a devil of a time finding male doll clothes in YOSD sizes. So I just assumed that girl dolls must be way more popular, at least in the smaller sizes.

    18. I've only had boys, and only plan for boys...but I can see myself getting a girl! :D

    19. I think I prefer the girls to the guys, but that hasn't stopped me from actually having a few blokes knocking about in my crew anyway. (Currently at 1 of each 'size' as it were.) I love the sheer volume of clothing options for gals, but it more often than not seems like I'm always at a loss any time I step over to the 'mens' selections... I don't imagine I'd ever prefer having -just- one gender, and almost feel like I need to even out the playing field a little bit as it is. XD

    20. I have one doll and she is a woman. ;) I would not want a man doll but I don't want another doll anyway. Sarah is the only doll for me.
