1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"PRETTY please?": the art of obtaining.

Apr 28, 2005

    1. mine is still in progress :|:

See picture of R727's Ysrael on deviantart
Realize it's not an actual person :doh (sadly)
Somehow end up looking at Dollzone website
Oogle Hong for a little bit and wonder if he would make a good Davyd
      Decide against it...not for Davyd
Stumble upon Soom's website and see the Sabik Elf
      :o:aheartbea
Spend the next few months researching eyes, hair, doll info, etc.
      Bought hair, eyes, and clothes.
      Tell mum about my doll:
Mum: so how much is this doll?
Me: I'm not going to tell you.
Mum: No you need to tell me. Is it like $500?
      Me: Something like that (Liar!!!)
Mum: Don't you think that's a bit much for a doll?
      Me: But he's pretty...
Mum: *rolls eyes* Get a smaller doll.
Me: :| (no kidding, this is actually how the conversation wen't down--even the pretty part)
Get hired for four weeks at the high school back home *two weeks to go :)*
Do the math: will have a little over $200 more than Sabik's price+shipping.
Have yet to discuss said purchase again...
In between all this I've found five other dolls I want...:...(
Technically it's my money and I should be able to do with it as I please, but I go to an expensive school and apparently never made it clear that the only reason I was getting a job this summer was because I knew it would give me enough money to buy my boy, despite the fact that my mother was the one who told me "If you want the thing, you'd better get a job to pay for it" after she found out it was expensive. She still doesn't know just HOW expensive...

    2. WELL! When I first found out about bjd's.. I put it on mah Christmas list. Lol.
HOWEVER! I knew there was no chance that I would get one from them. To expensive for them..
So, I guess I kinda lost touch with the whole bjd stuff.. Until I saw them again. And got into them again and such. Starting looking around at different sites.. And there she was! I found the perfect doll that I lovelovelove! I knew i wasn't going to get her from my parents.. So I guess I kept the whole thing at the back of my mind! Until last Christmas.. I got quite a bit of money.. And getting a bjd was the first things that came to mind! And with getting paid soon after, I had enough money for my doll! YAY! 8D

So I guess it wasn't really a struggle to get my first doll.. But it sure took a while. Lol. XD

    3. I remember when i told one of my friends at uni that i wanted to buy a doll, he thought it was strange but just left it alone until i told him how much it was, i dont think he's ever forgiven me for that :/

-Yay! I'm going to have it by Saboten-con!
-decide that if I don't have it by then I'm going to die

    6. This! Well, not with the fiance part... I had them deliver doll to work, and then smuggled doll home and hid in closet.;)

    7. Apparantly this hobby mostly teaches, among many other lessons, how to be patient and persistent! xD

My doll isn't here yet, and I've only been into this hobby for about 9 months but I've already learned so much about BJD's and am on my way to having my first doll, which is also my dream/grail doll.

I had to choose wisely and I researched endlessly before choosing what was perfect for me. It all started with Pipos :aheartbea I had 'sticker shock' because of the $300 price tag (I look back on it now and call myself silly because that much is the norm) I was definitely not in a situation where I could afford one because my family had just been foreclosed. I didn't need to beg, though. My boyfriend agreed to make it my birthday present :D 7 months later I was back to $0 because other things kept getting in the way. But I waited it out and my new best friend should be meeting me soon! >3<

    8. Well I thought you'd never ask 8D

      Here's how my convincing went:

Me: Hey mom, look at these dolls. aren't they pretty?
Mom: Oh, yes, they are. You know I've always loved dolls right?
Me: Well, no, but now I do. Let's get one.
Mom: Oh...but they're so expensive! I'll try and work it into my paycheck.
      Me: Okay! 8D

A couple of months later we went into a store and bought beautiful Elfdoll June
And since then we've been contiuing to buy dolls in which we have like...9 dolls with 2 more on layaway. :)

    9. -Makes time machine go back to 2005-

      -YAY!

      -Christmas, 2007-
-Now...if a GIANT box from Korea arrives, just put it on my bed. Gently.
      -Is it a bomb?
-..yes mom. It's a bomb. So just put it there.
-..You got a bomb from Korea?
-..Yes. Now are you li- NO! It's not a bomb! -explains to little brother what to do-

      -WEEEE! DOLL!
-..Did they let you pick the boobs? I would have gone bigger.
      -Thanks dad...

      -Present Day-

      -Please?
      -You don't NEED. You WANT.
      -I want to need it.
      -You're insane.
-If I die, I left a file on the computer with instructions.
-..if you die, I'm building an air tight cabinet. I know you'd kill me if I ever let something happen to them. Now, how much is this new one that you want?
      -gets new doll-

    10. I'm still saving for my first one. It's taking forever. But thankfully, it's summer so I have more time to do odd jobs for people in exchange for green papers.
My very good friend showed me a few websites around Christmas Break... or maybe it was spring break? I dunno. No important. The fact of the matter is, I was instantly addicted. My mom thinks it's one of those phase thingies, but as long as I raise the money myself, she's completely okay with it. SHe even said she might give me some money for my birthday for clothes or the next doll-obsession. My dad and boyfriend on the other hand.... "It's a DOLL! That costs HUNDREDS of DOLLARS!". It may just be something those with testicles do not understand.
Anyways, wish me luck on my new doll!

    11. I found the girl I wanted and said to parents it's my birthday soon, if you, brother and Nan all put money together along with me can I order her for my birthday......after about 3 goes at asking in one night, Dad gave in and said yes!

      so my story starts as:
Found out about BJD's from a friend
      waited for ages
looked at more dollies with said friend
started to look at MORE dollies that I liked
started to think about how to get dollies
      found dolly I liked
kept going back to look at dolly
found another dolly I liked that was a little cheaper
kept going back and forth between both dollies
finally decided to go for the slightly cheaper one for my first doll
asked Daddykins if I could put her on his card
then asked about being a Birthday present from everyone
got funds together from Parentals, Brother, Nan and myself
      ordered dolly (Feb-March 09)
      Joined DoA
      bought her clothes
waited for a few weeks for dolly to arrive
dollie arrived quite quickly (end of April 09)
LEAPED with joy when dolly arrived
      named her Reija
took loads of pictures of Box Opening
      created her a myspace page
      created her "character"
then I saw a DZ BB Mini Leo for sale on DoA who is her younger 1/2 brother and started the whole process again minus the birthday present
      Leo came home
      squealed at little box
      took photostory/box opening pictures
      faced him up
      went to dolly meet
      went to see Screaming Angel
      redone his face up
then saw and ordered a Puki pongpong on layaway on DDE
paid off last payment of puki today (15/06/09)
      waiting for puki.......

and now I've bought a DOT Lahoo head for Mum as she fell for his sculpt, with more dollies planned for myself!

    12. I asked my mom.
She said, you save up for it yourself, i did.
She was surprised i could commit myself to that.

    13. Honestly? I'm waaaaay past the age of asking, begging and/or pestering for something I want, but if someone offers to get me something, hey, I won't say "no" :) That's how I got my iPod from a friend, for instance.

...Ok, being real honest now, I do actually pester someone into buying me a doll. My brother is a generous person, even more generous when you actively pester him for weeks and weeks, and doesn't like to go back on his word when he offers to buy you something. A proof: our sister got her laptop after my brother asked her what she wanted as a birthday present. The reasoning I'm using to convince him of getting me a BJD is that dolls are cheaper than laptops, at least the BJDs I want. My birthday is in December so I still have half a year to come up with better arguments.

    14. mine went something like this (over the course of 2 years:

      - randomly meet DOA members Ashbet and Jola at a convention (completely unrelated to dolls).
      - see Ashbet carrying around a lovely doll, ask her briefly about her and promptly forget about them
      - later see photos of Ashbet and Jola's dolls
      - start doing research find doll sites
      - lust after Narae
      - count the monies in my personal bank account
      - mention to husband, he says no
      - find DOA
      - lust some more
      - spend hours looking at pictures on DOA
      - mention some more, get shot down every time
      - find puki pukis
      - mention to husband, he says no
      - decide that since my mom gives me money every year for my birthday, I will combine that with my tax refund and purchase a puki puki.
      - husband gets upset about how much they cost and how useless they are
      - get b-day money early, wait for tax refund
      - tell hubby that the only thing he has to do for my birthday is not get mad when I get my puki, no presents, no dinners, just that.
      - B-day comes around and hubby tells me that I can have whatever doll I want for my b-day.
      - order Narae instead of puki, because I figure how likely is it that I'll get the go ahead to spend $600 on a doll ever again?
      - wait(ing ...)

    15. im really good at lying, and plus, i can fake cry, so i can just say its limited edition, and theres only one left, and-and i really want it! i-its somethging special!
      the parents would belibve me.

    16. It has gotten to where if I do anything as far as cleaning a lot, cooking...etc...my dad says "What doll is it this time?" Perhaps I should just become a couch potato...because if I do anything my parents immediately think I want another doll... ^_^"

    17. I don't even have to fake crying. When I noticed that the chance to buy a Soom Beryl was gone...I cried:...(...and I found out that the Soom Glot was available...I told my mom how bad I wanted her and I cried because I knew if I wasn't able to get her...then I wouldn't have anything even similar to a Soom Beryl ever again. Eventually she gave in and I was so happy. The only bad thing is the waiting thing. I won't finish paying her off until July!!! Darn the six month payment plan!!!:doh

    18. Hmmm. There's a lot of posts on here, and it's doubtful I'll read them all, but I just had to put my two cents in.

I first saw some BJDs at Anime Vegas 2007. I thought they were beautiful, and I stuck around, a little weirded out by the dolls, admittedly. The owners of the dolls were nice, but the second I learned about the price, I split from that particular metting thing, and ran around the convention some more. I was 13 at the time, and about to start high school. Looking back, I understand perfectly why I was so freaked out by the price.

I stayed at a friend's house for Anime Vegas 2008, and met her doll. I don't remember the brand or anything, but he was pretty cool. I didn't remember the incedent at the previous Anime Vegas at all, so it was like meeting BJDs for the first time... again. After the convention, I promptly forgot, again.

Not too long ago, I was searching aroung for information on Gothic Lolita clothing, and met a website that mentioned BJDs. It directed me to the Volks website first, but I didn't like the smaller doll I saw. I went to another link on the same site that directed me to Volks, and found Dream of Doll. I saw all the dolls, and decided I was in love with an E-an I saw there.

After obsessively doing research on BJDs, I found an article called "BJD: wtf?" That cited some articles in Den of Angels. I couldn't access this place without a user, so I made one. After seeing all you people, and coming to appreciate BJDs a lot more, I slowly made the connections between the Anime Vegas 2007 and 2008 BJDs. I am currently attempting to get my mom to take me to a meetup so that maybe she can fall in love with these dolls like I have.

    19. Saw them and loved the concept since early high school. Saw the price tag and didn't even think any further. They are luxury goods.

Then went to university and got intern jobs. All the salary went into school and living expenses.

Now out of university with a full-time job. No kids, no large pets, no mortgage, no other loans no credit card interests. Found out I can pay for my retirement funds and still have some money left over.

Now you can guess where that money left over went... I guess I never did grow up in all those years after all. :)

    20. I've thought they were nice for many years...but knew that nobody would help me obtain one because well...-cough- I was a spoiled brat of a child and my family was trying to break me of that.

To get anybody agree to get me my doll (I bothered both Mom and Gramma about him for months. Even harder after I went to an anime con and was surrounded by them), I had to agree to accept him as a joint birthday present and pay like almost 200$ myself. But I was working then, and able to do it within a couple weeks. <3

I'm trying desperately to get a second doll...It's going a little less successfully because I'm currently out of work. XD But I'll get him soon enough. >=3 Sooooon enough. <3
