1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"PRETTY please?": the art of obtaining.

Apr 28, 2005

    1. Just received mine a month ago! =)
My start point is much similar to bulletsBANQ

      -Surfing through my friend's DA
-Saw a dollfie pic on her favourites!
      -Research for more sites!
      -Was totally awed by H.Kirill
-Research on basics and save up/work at the same time!
(Difficult period! :(Other expenses especially im still schooling!)
      After 2 long years,
      BANZAI! =)

    2. *snerk* I love this thread. :XD:

      Well, why not, here's mine.

      - surfing internet some years back, stumbles across Emono's Sephiroth. :o Lusted over for some weeks, got distracted and forgot
      - makes LJ friends with a girl into BJD, who posts link to Prode of Jocker Kai- checks out link, thinks about it, but make D: face at the incomprehensible page
      - forgets again until about two years back, as BJD friend posts about dolls again
      - searches dollfie, come to DoA and signs up in a fit of pique
      - lurks moar
      - goes to Volks and nearly falls out of chair at prices :o Wandered into Dollfie Dream section and went "...that looks like User' [RP character]
      - save up enough to get a head, body, outfit, eyes and wig
      - agonize for a week after submitting payment and casually mentions to mother that "I have a box coming."
      - box arrives - mother wonders what the hell I'm buying this time - opened it up and wondered what I just got myself into
      - spent a few minutes poking at the vinyl bust because I am secretly five years old. User is not amused by this.
      - ship User off for esthetics - agonize for six months until she returns *_*
      - User: :| I want new clothes. Now. And some company.

This leads to the [thankfully brief] saga of Rasputin.

      - surfs DoA, looking for nice dark-skinned molds for Rasputin
      - learn about Iplehouse's Aaron and go HOLY &^%$ THAT'S HIM
      - mope because original Aaron was limited. Alas! D:
      - learn of basic re-release. Joy! :D
      - save up for six months for Aaron and agonizes once again after pressing that 'order' button
      - Rasputin arrives - yay! User is happy she is not alone.
      - Rasputin: ...I find my lack of proper attire disturbing. :|

      Today:

      - stalk dream doll auction on Y!Japan while at work >>;;

    3. my experience with my husband goes something like this:

      Me: Looking at pics
      DH: Whats that?
      Me: Outrageously expensive dolls.
DH: ... They look pretty cool.
      Me: Yeah, I love them.
DH: Where did you find them?
      Me: Years ago. Don't remember.
DH: Why don't you get one.
      Me: Er... Price tag.
DH: They're worth it though right? In quality?
      Me: Yeah...
      DH: Then get one.

DH bought my first doll for me, DIM Choseol.

      Then... Months later...

Me: OMG! SHE IS GORGEOUS (soom beryl)
DH: Holy shit, now thats a cool doll.
      Me: I want her.
      DH: Get her.
Me: Are you out of your mind?!
      DH: They have Layaway?
Me: Yes... But what if I can't make the payments.
      DH: I can.

      Soom then sells out.

      Me: NOOOOOOO

      Soom restocks.

      YESSSSS

DH tells me again to get her.

I did. She should be mailed in the next two weeks or so. *excited*

Fast forward to now. DH is talking me into putting Honey Dew on layaway.
If I can get him his birthday present (PS3), I will.

DH also keeps an eye out for furniture and accessories for me.
And he even rearranged the living room so that I can actually display Beryl without the cats being able to knock her down to the dog and so that she isn't in the path of sunlight but still has the most prominant focal point of the living room. :) I love him to death!

So... I got very lucky with my hubs.

    4. For Luke and No-name it was:

-Hear Chopsticks talking about a $600 doll (DOD Camine)
-Freak out and think she's insane :?
-Listen to her talk about how pretty he is
      -Google BJDs
-Scream 'cause the page showed creepy blank heads :o
-Scroll down the page really fast
      -See Hayden :love
      -Melt
-Find more pics of Hayden on DA
-Register as his number one fangirl :D
-See a link for DOA in hiritai's FAQ
      -Join DOA
-Do some intense researching (Several months worth in like, a week's time)
-Me: "Hey mom? There's these dolls that my friend told me about..."
      -Mom: "Wtf? No!"
      -Convince mom
      -Convince dad
      -Contact MD
      -Learn about ordering periods *_*
-Get email from MD about two heads from a canceled order
      -Order the heads

-Repeat last two steps several times
-Come home from school to find a beautiful Migidoll box on the table
      -Squeal :D
      -Open box
      -Wtf? Easter grass? :?
-See MD Ryu and MD Miho
      -Die

For Corvyn, who hasn't arrived yet:

-See post on DOA about CH LE dolls
      -Click post
-Fall in love with LE Punky-Punky Mui :love
      -Convince parents
-Order with Luke and No-name's body fund :sweat
-Get email from CH saying my order was lost
      -Panic :horror:
      -Respond
-Get another email from CH saying they'd make another doll since it was thier fault my order didn't go through
-Have a mini heartattack at how awesome they are
-Tell CH how awesome they are
      -Wait
-Brag a bit about how awesome CH is
      -Wait more
      -Still amazed at CH's awesomeness
      -Still waiting

Is it weird that I didn't get any of them the normal "order and wait" way? I've been creepy lucky. Scares me since I doubt my luck will last much longer. :sweat

    5. -Find Caress of Venus' site while searching for Gackt photos around 2003
-Forget about them for a bit
-Find them again around 2004 and find Volks' site
-Pine horribly over Sakaki and Kai, but cry at the price tag
-Forget about them for a bit again
-Remember them in 2005 and search through all the sites
-Tell parents about them, have parents go 'wtf?!' at price and the fact that I want a doll
-Save up enough money by selling my old hobbies to get a CP Yder
-Have parents warm up to hobby after seeing how cool they were

Yup. Even though my parents were really iffy about them at first I went ahead and bought one anyway. It was with my own money so they couldn't really say anything, especially as I was clearing out a lot of space by selling stuff. xP

    6. Thats soo funny. Im very lucky i dont live with my mom. althou since i have a very small allowance, i beg my husband.. unfortunately he says "you are in charge of the finances" :sneaky not a wise choice to leave it up to me

:...( im torn between doing the right thing or not

    7. Aw, that's cute!!! But I'm stubbornly independent!!! I detest the idea of being unduly beholden to anyone for anything. I'm not that confident of my social skills for one thing, lol.

So when it happens that I have to ask hubby for funds for a doll (if it be that big a purchase) then I go overboard to make up for it. I sell other things or work twice as hard to make up for it. When I went for a 900.00 Beryl recently, I sold twice as much as its cost to make up for it... then the doll didn't work out for me anyway (too big, too mature, I'd have had to do way too much to it and I couldn't bear the thought of altering her) I re-homed her and put that money back into the pot too.

But I made sure he knew it!

      Raven

    8. My boyfriend = a total sucker = doll munnies.

      ...

Seriously though. That poor poor dude, I luv him so. :)

    9. I've been begging and pleading for like 2 years and have had 0 results. I don't remember the first doll I showed my mom but I do remember the the price. It went something like this:
Me: Mom look at this pretty doll. Can I have it? :D
Mom: Ok let me see :)....... Is that $600 AMERICAN DOLLARS?!?:o
Well, she said no and has stuck with that ever since. So I think it's better if I just find a job. i think I would feel better about spending my own money.

    10. Ohgod I'm saving for my first now. XD I told my mom I was saving for something, she asked what, I said, "..... a doll."
      So she asked, "How much?"
      I replied, "$200." I panicked! He's really $850!! *facewall* Aaaagh.

    11. LOL!!! laughed my head off when I saw what you'd written! XD

      ___________________________
      As for my own experience:

      -Saw bjd on deviantart
      -research bjds
      -save up for 2 months
      -research companies
      -beg parents for consent
      -research molds
      -save up some more
      -research more
-beg mom again (dad didnt care)
      -save up more
      -more research
      -save up some more
-beg mum to lend me money.
      -FINALLY buy doll.

With the second doll it was much easier.

"Mum, will you buy me a doll?"
      "Ok."

It LITERALLY happened just like that. XD

    12. lmao this thread is great
      as for me-

-went to first convention saw a featherfall table
-found out how much the dolls were just as a blank nekkie
-walked away thinking thats just "silly"
      -researched when i got home
-found Ariel and swooned over her adoribly floppsy elfy ears <3
-convinced my boyfriend and roomate that there not creapy OR waists of money
      -bought Ariel
-explored Soom site and saw Honey Dew 0.0
-boyfriend saw everything in common and how the doll was "made" for me >.>
-boyfriend offers to help pay for honey dew says ill regret it if i let her pass

hence i have a ariel on her way through customs and a honeydew on layaway ^_^<3

    13. lol boyfriends are so great when they agree with the dolls

    14. I'm still in the process of begging. xDD

      It went something like this:

      - See some pictures on DA, think they're pretty, fave a few.
      - One of the people I watch submits a desktop screenie with a BG filled with pics of DOC's Ivan and Kirill
      - FALL IN LOOOOOVE
      - Ask where to get them
      - Go to DOD for the first time
      - DIE. OVER. PRICES.
      - Print out pictures, show him to everyone, hint at wanting him
      - Flat-out tell them: "I WANT THIS PLZ"
      - Continue begging until I get success. ;__;

My mom said she'd allow it if my dad says yes, so... I'm trying. Very hard. xD

    15. BFFF shows me dolls from DOD
      -eh...
      1 month later
      -*swoons* :love
      -*roams other sites*
-*accidently clicks kid-delf section on luts by mistake*
      -*sees Bory*
      -ZOMG MUST HAVE <3333
      Time Lapse~
-*hints constantly at parents/ "jokingly" asks directly a couple of times*
-Dad: when I get a boat.
      - ._.
Longer time lapse full of penny pinching~
      -*comes home from friend's house*
      -Dad: I got a boat...
      - *_*?
-Dad: So where's your dollsite *tapping at laptop*
-ZOMG YOU WERE SERIOUS???!!1111 *mega squee*
      -Dad:...yuh *gives crazy look*
      -*huggles to death*
      Doll order placed on 11/01/08~

      __________________________________________________
I can't believe he was serious! O.o My dad is like...never...ever...EVER...serious about things like that. But I'm not complaining! My wonderful boy shall be here hopefully soon *crosses fingers*

Edit:: All of this was spread out over several months, close to a year...

    16. My path to *finally* getting a BJD involved getting back into American Girl dolls, finding a forum about those that had a sub-forum for OT dolls including BJDs, and then seeing photos of the Tinybear tinies and..

Well it's all history, really. I found DoA somewhere in there and I dipped into some of my savings for a couple dolls and then begged my fiance for early Christmas gifts. He still thinks I'm crazy for liking the dolls so much but I don't think he really minds, otherwise he wouldn't help me get them.

    17. Lol. I think if I had asked my Dad to get me a doll, let alone a $600+ doll, he would've committed me. But anyways, my scenario goes something like this...

      -Go to an anime convention
      -Sorta notice the dolls.
-Make a question about the price.
      -Choke.
-Laugh it off and forget about it.
-Friend gets one a year later.
      -Talk to her about it.
-Contemplate on saving, but decide against it.
-Next anime convention, see them EVERYWHERE.
-Talk to my boyfriend about it.
-Get home, talk to my BJD friend about it.
      -Decide I'm determined.
-Look over various websites, but finally decide on SOOM.
-Tell my manager I'm desperate for hours and to work me like a mule.
-Sell a few things, and gradually work my way up to the point I'm at now.

      >-> ALMOST THERE. ALMOST.

    18. I tutored 4 kids in my summer vacation to get my dolls + I had to beg for my doll to my mom (since she is the one paying for my education)

I checked many websites and bought 4 dolls. (I saved money by buying used dolls. they are same as new to me.)

I talked (or begged) to my mom A LOT to get those dolls.

I never want to work more when I am looking at my wish dolls.

    19. Step One. Get into pixel dolling, meet a girl.
Step Two. Have the girl ramble on her LJ about some "Shiwoo" thing she wants. Look it up on Google.
Step Three. Fall in love. See price tags. Cry.
Step Four. Go for something cheaper -- get into Pullips.
Step Five. Slowly start liking them less and less. Complain and cry about being unable to sew that small.
Step Six. Explain to mom why BJDs > Pullips. Have mom agree to only pay for the shipping on Shall.
Step Seven. Try to sell Pullips and Pullip stuff to gather money.
Step Eight. Get no response whatsoever to the sales threads. Cry.

And, out of all of that, the total Shall Fund is... zero. Ah, well, I can always look at owner pics of her and swoon at her pretty little resin self.

    20. My first doll (my DOC Too) was actually a sort of blackmail :sweat though i hate to admit that we both got what we wanted in the end.

My DOT Ducan was a christmas present (though i paid for most of him), my DOC Zen i bought by selling my KD Bory which was a birthday present from my mother and my friends, my Bambicrony Elf Shy i bought with my own funds, my Crobidoll Lance was a split birthday present from both my parents (now divorced so it was nice they joined together) and my DOT Delphine, whilst i'm the one who's paid for her is a little xmas present for myself~

The main part is trying to convince my mother that i'm not wasting money and that i won't regret buying these dolls. She often gives me the "glare of death" to try and put me off buying another doll. But as long as i pay for it she gives in and lets me order ^.^

So yeah most of mine are presents, it's very confusing and strange because even though they are somehow they end up costing me money xD!
