Rainmans Flower Elves

Jan 14, 2009

    1. Thank you derilan:) So did you cut the string and then retie it to the o-ring? I'm not seeing the point where it is tied so I could just tighten and retie it to the ring.

ALso, did anyone see on the Elfdoll website that the Flower Elves are now listed as Special Editions and Tulie and Belle are sold out? I really want to get a Tulie for my daughter, but I just can't right now. I know Rainman said they would be regular releases, but the website is different.

    2. Gracie- I actually cut a little bit of the string and then retied it very carefully, I also made sure to get the elastic loops even for each leg, my hubby said for as much as I paid for these dolls they should come perfect. Alas what does he know about a perfect BJD;)

    3. Ahh, okay, I begin to understand now:) Sounds like a project for this evening when DH is home. The last time I attempted restringing it took the both of us and that was a 10inch BJD, not a tiny Flower Elf. Thank you for all your help. I am trying to get her ready for the photo shoot on Friday, but I was also going to try to hide her from DH. He was there at IDEX so he knows their price*_*

I guess the reason I was so surprised is because of IDEX. At IDEX there were two of each flower. One was so miserable, it wouldn't stand, was floppy, just miserable. The other was perfect. I thought the floppy doll was just an anomoly and the perfectly strung ones were the way they were supposed to be. lol, now I know better. DK was there so she and Ms. Cholong probably were able to fix them up for the show. Good thing these Flower Elves they are so darned cute!

    4. My Tulie arrived today....and she has S hooks on both her hands and feet....and she is well strung.....WOOHOO ...doing a happy dance! I will change her arms to the leaf ones and her feet to the elf boots tonight....after my DH leaves for the airport on his business trip......and Rosey is just extatic to have her here....seems some of the other tiny BJDs were heard to say..." Did you see that head!"....hurt feeling aside....it is always better to travel in pairs.....

    5. Well derilan, I wound up restringing her too, but not by choice. I understand the few choice words you said while doing it. I left her arms alone since they weren't too bad, but while I was trying to change her feet to the boots, I lost the string and off came one of her legs. It was a big pain in the wazu, but I finally got everything on.....only to see that I had forgotten her shin! So, off again to do everything all over. I'm not so sure having the s hooks is any easier. They sit so far down in the boots it is extremely difficult to loop the string onto it.

So now I have her restrung and tightened and her head is floppy and I can't get it to stand up straight. This is exactly like the dolls at IDEX that were bad and exactly what I wanted to avoid. I think I am going to have to email Ms. Cholong and see if something can't be done. I am begining to think there is something wrong with this particular Flower Elf.

    6. gracie: I got my Tulie today. First thing right out of the box I noticed her floppy head. I fixed that by stretching a kip over the large metal circle that attaches her head.

I was able to swap out her normal arms for the leaf ones with help of the beaver stroing puller from bambicrony (usually a a more decorative tool in the toolbox)

Swapping the feet for shoes was definitely a cursing fest. The string went right up the leg just like you and it was nearly impossible to get the legs restrung I had to use some jewelry wire as a string puller. the tube in the calf was too thin for the beaver puller and it got stuck.

Having the s-hook still a chore for changing parts but I think easier than trying to knot the parts properly with string.

I should have put her elf queen dress on before restringing her arms. It was hard to get the straps past the leaves on her forearms. Also I had to decapitate her to put her cape on I thought it had a clasp I was wrong.

All that work provided great bonding time with super cute Saffron

On Tulie Denverdoll has layaway. I just checked the elfdoll site I think everything is marked soldout due to site renewal and rosey being in stock is just an error. All their standard dolls and outfits are marked soldout too.

    7. Thank you very, very much Aree. What is a kip? I am so frustrated with her I'm willing to try anything. I got out her dress and just gently trying to put it on her made one of the straps come off. It looks like it is just glued onto the dress, but after dealing with that restringing, I wasn't in the mood for it.

I want to get Tulie for DD, but I don't know if I can go through this again:...(

    8. gracie: A kip is Volks innovation of using a silicone washer on joints to keep posing better. You can get no name equivalents from ebay and pupapa. I just happen to have a few at home. Sorry about the straps on your dress. They did use nice materials but took some shortcuts in other things with the outfits.

    9. Wonderful! Thank you Aree. I was able to jiffy-rig a kip by making my own washer. It will work until I can get to the hardware store and find a silicone washer to do the trick. It does seem to have helped a bit. She still isn't perfect, but she will work for now. I think I am going to wire her legs, too. I would love to find out what Ms. Cholong & DK did at IDEX to make the Rosey there so perfect in its posing. I think she stood better in her regular feet, but now that she has on the boots, they are staying! If I push down on the boots on a hard, even surface I can get her to stand with some effort. Oh, well. At least her arms pose perfectly.

    10. Here's Saffron Vandertulipe standing on her boots.

I really love this doll's face and Tulip do.

    11. Hello to everyone. I'm a newbie to this forum.

I have noticed that Tulie's flower top completely comes off. Does anyone think that it might be possible to craft a back of the head piece for her and use wigs on her? I know this might be wishful thinking on my part, but it would be kind of cool if you could turn her into a human.

    12. hen88: Welcome to the forum and yes I think it would be possible using something like apoxie sculpt and putting a magnet on the headback

    13. I changed my Tulie's arms and feet last night...with little trouble other than I was being SUPER careful not to accidently unstring her....I was lucky because her tension is okay as is....the dress is tight to hook up easily....no doubt about that....I almost couldn't do it....but after some gentle ( not really, I TUGGED!) pulling, I was successful in getting her dressed. I AM SUCH A PRUDE..sigh....had to find her some unders....flower fairy or not....
She and Rosey are happily playing now...

    14. Aree your Saffron is beautiful.

      That's great RoseAnn.

    15. Gracie- I know how you feel, my Tulie's boots were a nightmare to put on and once I took them off and put her normal feet back on they are staying. I want to put her leaf arms on, but I don't think I will do it for a while.

AreeElf- Don't you just love that outfit! My Tulie is wearing hers too, yeah had to take off her head to get the cape on, but I do have the knot in the top of her head so I guess mine is a little stubborn when posing her head, but not too much.

    17. Yes, it is possible and I am working on this for my own Tulie.

    18. Valli: What an interesting shelter for your girl and her baby. They almost look like a fantasy sculpture instead of dolls

    19. Aree, your Saffron looks so beautiful. I love her in the green-toned skin.

Valli, your Rosey and Seedling are perfect in that setting.

We did camp over at Disney this past weekend and brought Rosie. She was a pill to pose, but we were still able to get some good shots of her. I made an album of some of the pictures we took. It is image heavy, but here is the link if you would like to see them:

    20. Oh boy I got my shipping notice from Denver doll today! My long layaway wait is over! :3nodding: I even decided on a name for her, Cicely, after Cicely Mary Barker who wrote and illustrated the Flower Fairies books.
