1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

rant: BJD family planning

Sep 23, 2005

    1. This is my first year of collecting and I only intended to have one or two at the most. I have five, with another arriving any moment, and another full doll and head on layaway for next year. Only the head belongs to any sort of coherent plan! I'm going to end up with a polyglot crew who are no relation to each other and that's OK.

    2. I originally only planned on one, maybe two at most. In the first month (before my first doll was even home!) I had ordered two more to go with my first. When Lillith arrived she demanded more siblings (and I have a thing against uneven numbers, lol) so that family slowly went from the original three to eight. I'm down to seven right now but I know I want two more girls - an SD girl to go with my SD boy and maybe another puki.

    3. I've just recently gotten one - a Hong, he's beautiful - I just let him pick me :) I've been wanting one for a very long time, but I've never really thought of how many dolls I would like?

I'm bad though, if I see a dozen that I fall in love with, I will aspire for them all. Thank goodness, it's just been Hong though so far!! Because I think I will leave the buying to a minimum; unless I find something in them I like more than just a general interest!

    4. My original plan was for three: IH Luna and Akando (the former of which I have and the latter is on order) and DM model Lasia. Then Iplehouse released Chase as a basic, and I really like him, so currently he's a possible fourth to save for. But then I keep looking at the other Dollmore Model dolls, and I've always liked the Ha Yarn Cho facemold, so she's been a maybe doll for a while. But then I started comparing her to Bonnie Hopezs, and I like the idea of turning them into twins, so now both of them are possibly, someday dolls.

I think the danger will really come upon me if/when Iplehouse releases Yur as a basic (because I can see her as Akando's sister, and if I get her, I'll have to go look for their younger brother *eep*).

    5. All the time!

My family plannignhas fallen apart- there was once a tight back story but now it is pretty frayed around the edges! Though I find you can alwas squeeze a character in if you want to...sometimes they are visitors, sometimes they are house guests that won't go home, sometimes they are distant cousins!

    6. I don't even bother planning. I know I wouldn't be able to stick with it. :3

    7. It happends all the time to me. Mostly because Soom makes lovely dolls which are hard to resist. :|

    8. I'm totally big on this 'family planning' thing, and jumped on that train the moment I decided to get a doll in the first place. My first plan totally went the way of the dinosaur pretty soon after I finalized it. I barely even remember exactly how it was, but I remember there were only three dolls, and I think it was one of every size (large, mini, tiny) .

I came up with a new plan after deciding that I just HAD to get matching twin kids and HAD to make an older boy and girl couple and HAD to have a unisex doll in there somewhere too. But since then, I've stuck to my plan pretty well =P . ...I've only just gotten my first doll mere days ago, but still, good signs XD .

My doll family planning goes as follows...

      Mini-sized female doll (BF Jasmine)
      Mini-sized male doll (BF Louis)
Mini-sized unisex doll (?? BF... Sleeping Emilie? Niky? Etc.?)
Tiny-sized female twin (MW Junior ??)
Tiny-sized male twin (MW Junior ??)

I'm not even sure of the exact sculpt for three of them ^^; . It'd be nice to have just one sleeping doll, for variety, but I love eyes so much~ grr, I don't know what to do for that!

A couple days ago, I saw a random pic of someone's doll here and fell in love with the face. It was near perfect to me. I searched it out, and found out it was a DOC. I swore off DOD since I learned that their resin quality has been inconsistent, and I don't like their body sculpts, so I already know I'd never buy their dolls, no matter how tempting the face. I don't fall in love so easily, argh! But so far that's the closest I've come, I think, to strongly swerving from my current plan. Considering it was a no-chancer from the start, I'd say my resolve is pretty tough =P .

Besides, I can always make some terrible attempt to make my own dream doll next semester when I take that sculpture course, ha ha ha ha! Well, if I actually managed to make my own BJDs, I guess I'd be adding to my family plan a tiny bit.

    9. ...I have to admit that when I first saw this thread's title, my brain totally went in the direction of 'so someone wants their dolls to use condoms?'

That said, I don't think I plan as much as I used to. Largely because I assembled the cast I most wanted, and now I just buy when the mood strikes and the money is there.

    10. I think this happens to all of us. I originally wanted 4. 2 girls & 2 Boys so no one would be left out. The girls were going to be sisters and yad-yad-yadh. Well now I have 3 girls, none of whom are related. But I'm not sad, because I love this family ^-^. Of course... we do need some men-folk around here!

    11. Ahahaha, that's what I thought too! XD

And yeah, I gave up planning. It doesn't work for the most part. I used to be one of those really structured doll owners - now I just go with it!

    12. When I put #6 on layaway I thought that she would be the last one. But now I'm looking at a gorgeous doll who would be #7. Oh, boy... is there ever an end to this??????????*_*

    13. Family planning? Ah ha ha...ha....haaaaaaaaaaa. Yeah, that didn't work too well for me. :B The initial plan was to only get dolls included in Lu's story. Which...kept expanding..more and more. After a while I noticed I was adding characters to the wishlist that were breaking the theme just because I wanted that doll. I recently got over myself and wiped a good chunk, but...

Now I have plans for twelve whole Volks dolls, the vast majority of which are limiteds, so I can have a whole year of frilly lolita girls. DX No! Bad plans! You wanted to plan for LESS dolls! Aaaauuugghh.....

    14. I have three dolls planned two boys (crobidoll)(angell studio)and one girl (angell studio). Still saving up money though.

    15. I never plan anything at all if I can help it, I'm all about caprice (for better or worse)!
The same for my bjd family, I buy as I have funds and whims dictate. ^_^
So it's a bit topsy turvy, dolls occasionally come and go (not like they used to, though) and I have a nice little mishmash of a crew, and that pleases me.
I wouldn't worry about it, you never know! An unplanned dolly may surprise you and take your hobby in a whole new direction!

    16. I was supposed to have ONE resin doll. ONE. XD

I currently have three, one's on the way and I think my list of planned dolls has reached....14 now? ^_^; I need to update my wishlist.

      I think it depends on the person, but planning it in advance has never stopped me from adding ANYTHING. ^_^;

    17. What a fun, interesting topic. Family planning never occured with me. No kids but tons of cats and when I found these dollies... could I stop at two? No way.

Interests change like the weather but... having been here for a few years, I do have it down to where I 'think' I want it.

    18. my next doll should be CP chiwoo UNLESS i buy the event head from luts from a friend :)
after that i dont have specific order but i want
      migidoll cynical ryu
      soom euclase
      limhwa half elf
      MNF seorin
i REALLY want a yosd sized doll i just havent chosen wich one yet :sweat

    19. for a while I thought I was going to have a bunch of tiny animal dolls... now it's looking like a bunch of pukipukis >.<

      It's so hard to choose!

    20. I'd originally intended on four dolls only.

1 male based on a character I have role-played and drawn for years and who will show up in my novel.

1 female based on a character I've drawn a few dozen pages of a comic for and turned into said novel above.

Then 1 male and 1 female completely unrelated to the first who could wear any bonus wigs and eyes or clothes I got that I liked, could dress however I wanted; etc.

Yeah, that didn't happen very well.

The last two (Chaos and Nixie respectively) started developing strongly into their own characters with a loose storyline that I'm adapting from an elements based role-playing game I never set up, so now I'm more limited in what I can do with them. (Not entirely - but now there are colors and styles they will and won't wear.)

Then the first doll - the male role-playing/novel character - had a son in the role-playing storyline. Which didn't necessarily mean anything until I happened to run across a sculpt that screamed, "I am Jaden!" - so now he's on my wishlist for my fifth for-certain doll. (And probably at some point in my novel's storyline, he'll have that same son he has in the game.)

I've also run across sculpts that would work very well/perfectly for some other characters that appear in my novel and who might also make good "elementals". I'm not committed to buying them, but they are bookmarked in case I ever decide to do it.

It's a little bit frustrating, amusing and bemusing to feel this way about dolls when I used to think they were excessively creepy. I suppose it's just a matter of finding the right sculpts that resonate with you.
