rant: BJD family planning

I have a very active mind (it never switches off XD) and I think my doll family reflects that. I have nooooo limitations and I'm constantly looking around sites for things. I have 1 doll at the moment but I'm going to be buying my second within the next few weeks. After him I have another 6 on the waiting list. But possibly 9. And I can't wait to see the new dolls that come out this year!!

They way I see it is: if you're sensible with your money and it makes you happy, then why limit yourself? Realistically I reckon I'll get the next three on the list - including the one I'm about to buy - this year and be saving for the fourth by the time this year is over. It won't stop me adding to my list if I want to though XD

Plus, I'm not impatient. Saving is part of the fun! Good job I plan on having a big family I think if ideas like Yder twins come into your head and you really like the thought of having them then just add them to your list and keep saving

 

My dolls are going to be a school.... lol- thus I want about 30 XD I only have around 3 and couple of floating heads, but I'm hoping to just keep up and buy them all. I guess I'm not too worried about having that many, I used to have 20 or so other dolls, and I can definitely keep up with all of them since I do my own faceups and make my own clothes. All I really need to buy are shoes, wigs, eyes, and any other small accessories that I can't make.

 

i originally wanted one (a 58cm body from dollzone, a clovera head from dollzone with a different faceup..) just one pretty girl to love and have as my own.. then i wanted one sooner rather than later, here comes yuki (a dollfamily lingfeng who yes is really on his way home.).. ok so two was ok right? no, now i want like 15.. T_T they all have personalities and backstories, no names. im slowly working my way down the list of characters. going with the ones who have the biggest background and personality first. -_- and by slowly i mean at a dead snails pace slowly lol.. im currently stuck between keo and keroin.
as amazing as it is none of my characters were created or thought up for the significant other of another character. i feel so odd.

 

Oh yeah... it started with one, I only wanted one little Lati Yellow, what harm could that be right? I'd never want anything bigger... that would be crazy! Then a friend showed me LittleFee Ante, then the PukiFee's came out... it just got worse and worse. I'd like to keep the family at 10 - which means no more... but we'll have to see!

 

I started with one... then she got a husband then a baby, which is now sold and has grown into a beautiful lil girl, and she has a sister who is 2 years younger as well. Next one, who knows :P :P (dolly contraception anyone???)

 

Ummm... I have a long story =))
At first I wanted Limho Mano, but I have seen him alive on a party and have changed my mind. In the same place I have seen Lati red M and have fallen in love.
I have saved up money for him, but Lati did not open the period of sales, and I was nervous and have suddenly bought Dollmore Kyle Reese.
His name's Sam-Leslie, and he changes now... New head for Leslie... Tsss
I've bought Luts kdf Bory boy... And have sold he one month later.
Then I wanted a lot of dolls. Ohhhh. Soom Dia boy, Dollshe Saint, Iplehouse Tatiana, Olleaf Pan and ect.
But I've bought privately Angelregion Dana. Suddenly.
And have sold she one month later too.
Grrr... >_> They aren't 'mine' dolls!
But! I was so happy that I've bought a head of Lati red M from the secondary market on DOA, he has arrived and waited his body. ^^
But instead of his body I've bought Zaoll Luv...
You will laugh, but I've sold she two month later. Again.
Then I wanted Limhwa Mano tanned elf, Dollzone Clovera, Dollmore Kara Klum girl, Dollmore Ciel, DOD Si, Luts Karis... and ect... again too))
I've bought a head of Iplehouse Luo.
And have sold him... ummm... about a week later.
No, no and no! I don't wish to continue buy and sell dolls!!
I've made the list and have deleted from it all who is pleasant to me, or very much pleasant, or approaches for character of personage. And here is that remains:
Dollshe Bermann
Souldoll Ahee
minifee body(i'm laughing))
and, I think, Dollshe Hound.
DS Bermann is the biggest of my dreams. I really very love him.
I'm looser, in my list are so not enough dolls which I really wish to have always...

 

Just Shi Shi and Xavier was ended when my sister and I won the twins although it's very possible I would have got Xavier's wife and all the tiny children they could hold. Except that I found a place to get Lucifer whom I had seen in a magazine before I bought either of them.

Right now if I got a Yo-SD sized girl I could be happy, except where 12cm tinies are concerned but they never count.

 

So...here's my girl, Anastasia...errm...Lilika. She has some sisters: Ame (IH Tatiana), she's my friend's, and Annika (IH I), who'll be my another friend's. xD
I'll have (I think) three dolls more:
Mnémé (CH Uriel), who's a little angel.
Camélia (SoulDoll Asen), who's a lady, with tragic past.
Cyrille (DollZone Aimi), who's satirical and really-really French.

 

The most dolls I've owned at one time is 7 (if I am remembering correctly) back in 2007, my first year collecting. I went a little marketplace crazy. So most of them were second hand... However I have owned 24 different dolls since starting collecting...

There are currently 28 dolls on my wish list, however sometimes I find that even when I get a wish list doll, I end up selling due to not bonding with them... So, my wish list changes often... it used to have like 50 dolls on it.

I currently have 3 girls and 1 floating head at home, and I'm waiting on one to come home.

I initially wanted to have a pantheon of Greek goddesses, but it has evolved into more of a fantasy doll family! I keep planning to get at least one boy doll, but then I see a lovely new girl and I get her instead, the latest is Soom Migma. I guess my doll family planning is just buying SG Soom girls

 

Haha, oh yes. I have had this happen. At first I thought "It'll just be one and I'll be happy." and then I had the bright idea of turning my characters from my book into dolls. So I thought "I'll just get the core base of characters - Lief, Cain, Tyler, Skye, Kimberly, Felix, Elliot... maybe Miles and Sumner-Dawn if I have the money/means to get them. So at the most it was going to be 9 dolls. That was it.

Then Epidos came along and said "Pick me! I'm a PONY!" And I couldn't help but get the Ponybutt. Argh. Woe! I have no story for you, and no place in my story for you, Epidos!

"Ah, but you do." Says Epidos. "Because here's a different story for you. What about Fae in 1930's Chicago producing illicit drugs and running a moonshine operation? Doesn't that sound like fun to write? And I'm one of Oberon's messengers masquerading as mounted police in this world of yours, and my name is Mercury."

"That does sound like fun." I tell the voice in my head. "That sounds like more fun than it should have sounded like. Okay. You can stay."

"By the way," Says Mercury, haughtily, "I have twin younger siblings as well. And they were just released by SOOM."

"ARGH!"

So after that escapade, the characters of Moonshine started appearing. And hey, that's cool, I can deal with that. I've got two universes, but at least there's still a limit, right?

"You know what would be cool?" Says RS Lian, "Fan dolls. Wicked Fan dolls. You want an Elphaba and you know it. Guess what, RS do green skin."

"Okay, but only you. JUST you. No one else from the Wicked cast, no one else at all."

"But I wouldn't be Elphie without a Glinda. Also, look. Wouldn't that SOOM Proton Reaper head be perfect for a Dresden Files Bob? And if you get Bob, you have to get Harry. And Murph. And... Thomas! Oh do get a Thomas!"

My plans have definitely changed as well. I was going to save up for an IH EID Carina and spend money on her. Than I discovered LF littlefee so Im planning to get two, one leah one bisou, than I saw the Dz christmas babies (ive got two used on hold) than I saw the DZ momos, than the Ndoll dreaming doll judy which I plan to get first instead of carina, and now I need a boy so I can have a proper storyline I just dont know what yet. Sad thing is its going to take a year to acquire even two small ones. I am sure there will be many more changes as I discover more dolls as I am a newbie and havent even researched half of the dolls available @_@

 

Has any of this happened to you before? Planning for the perfect family, only to have all the planning spoiled after seeing a different doll or sudden thoughts of doll back stories popping into your head?

Dolls have been going onto and coming off my wishlist often. One day, I might fall in love with a sculpt (I have a lot of heads on the list, now, though) and next week, I'll decide I don't really want that doll after all.

When I got my first doll, I was perfectly fine with one. It was really hard to save up, and I was happy that I owned one to begin with. I've told the story too many times of how I got my second one, but even after that, I end up liking other dolls, place them on the list, and see if my interest stays.

So far, the heads are staying (probably because there isn't too much of a commitment when you buy a head), as well as some of the more unique dolls, like tinies. Full dolls tend to come and go, though. I also find myself removing MSDs from my list as well, due to the fact that I do think of my doll world when I see them, and they just don't fit. Planning-wise, I have no idea what part all but one doll would play in the little doll world I've got going for the two I have, but I don't think of that too much.

I don't have a set number of dolls I'd want to get, also. I figure that things will eventually balance out. Plus, if I were to get all the heads on my list, they wouldn't take up a lot of space. I wonder if I ever did limit myself, I might end up going crazy.

ALL. THE. TIME.

My first doll was going to be a DoD H. Ducan. I'd already set my heart on it. Then a friend pointed out that a mutual acquaintance was selling her Dollzone Fei, which was absolutely perfect for a first-timer who wasn't sure she wanted to sink $600 into a hobby she might not stick with. Then it was back to Ducan. Then I spotted Angel Fantasy Yin and my brain went "oh my GOD I need a Bleach character doll". Which...was not something I had even remotely considered. Hitsugaya eventually showed up as a DoD Kirill, after many travails...and really, Hitsugaya isn't even my favorite Bleach character so I'm not sure how that happened. At this point I had decided I really wanted a Shiwoo. Which I bought next. But THEN Luts released Lu-wen. At which point my brain went "YOU NEED THIS". (I didn't even like elf dolls. Now I have two. Wtf.) I thought I was done for a while. But then...but then I saw Elfdoll Red. Who screeched to me that I needed to buy him and make him into a Prince of Tennis character doll. So I did. I had money and no willpower.

Grey was actually an accident, I'd bought the Yder head inexpensively for a friend to practice faceups and eventually he came back to me, got a body, and turned into another character who just got his elf ears modded on him.

I haven't gotten a doll in three years, but I'd always told myself that when I finally got my Shirou Tachibana, I was calling it quits. But then...Elfdoll Wu told me he wanted to be Cecil Harvey. And now Elfdoll Aden is really, really tempting me to turn him into another anime character. It's the character dolls. I CANNOT get away from the character dolls.

Really. Plans? What plans?

 

I'd blame character backstories for all of mine, except that sometimes what happens is that I see a doll that has no place in the existing storyline but I'm smitten anyway. Then, like chibihaku's characters, a whole new chunk of story pops open on me. Then we start getting such characters going, "By the way, I have friends, and family, and relatives--"
It was only supposed to be one doll, one guy, that was it!
Then he decided we *had* to have his boyfriend, and it was all over except for the shouting.
I guess that means my doll character is more stubborn than I am, which is kind of weird.
I understand that a similar problem arises for collector sorts, where that little whisper of, "You know you'll never find this again in blue resin," is soooo dangerous.

Ayup. Right here. Initially, I got a Lati Blue Rei, and he was going to be my Russel - the main character from a story of mine, and was planning on getting his three friends. Except, I needed to find a 50 cm tanned buff woman for him, and obviously that didn't happen. I also got the head for his father, but the body never came along either. I was also too chicken to try and re-paint his face-up to match his then-blue (it's black now) hair, and the doll never really became the character. I got bored, and made up a totally new character with a new storyline, who was shelled into a KDF Bory (and actually completed, character-wise). I was going to get the four main characters from his story, and his parents (who were actually from another story) I even got a Soom Chrom to be another cynical immortal character from his story, but Chrom took 4 months to get a face-up and by the time I got him I had already moved on, because I suddenly got hit with tiny fever. Got myself my first Yo-sized doll, Infiniti Tiki. Of course, this doll showed up with his own complete concept, storyline and set of supporting characters. Then I got his face-up redone, and since that moment I struggled with his character because I just suddenly couldn't make him work anymore. (And couldn't wipe it either - $150!). So, when Soom Lami came out last April it didn't really take me long to list the tiny up for sale and buy a Lami. Ironically, Lami was actually going to be my attempt #2 at Russel. Of course that never happened, because instead he became Peppermint - again, a new character, though this time it was in an already existing story of mine, and he wasn't the main character. Except, haha.... When Peppermint showed up, he sort of got another storyline as well.

Anyways, Peppermint is my first attempt at making a unique doll with a very specific character face-up. All of the dolls I had before had very generic, natural face-ups that sometimes didn't fit their character. With Pep I decided to step out of the comfort zone and ask for something more recognizable. We'll see how that goes, then.

I've sort of given up trying to make the "perfect doll family" because uh well... too many characters, too little time/money/space. Right now I don't even think I want to fill specific characters as I want to fill specific character archetypes that will be fluid and can be styled into any of my characters who fall into the archetype. It's going to tentatively be an Idealian and an EID man (Evan?), an EID or an Idealian woman, and a SID woman (Eva). The men might be scaled down to Mega Gem man (Ender? Or maybe Phonolus, depending?) and a SID man (Claude?). I might get an F-38 head from Volks, unless something comes up that fits that character better (it's actually Russel again). I also want a tiny that's somewhere in the range of 30-35 cm, and another MSD. Of course that's the plan for uh... now.

 

With me, I wanted to try to limit the number of dolls - I was going to get a few dolls to cosplay a variety of characters. Except I kept wanting to have more 'on stage' at the same time - you know, the entire Shinigami crew from Bleach. All the Shinsengumi in Gintama. Stuff like that. Plus I keep seeing perfect sculpts for different anime characters. So my original idea remains - the cosplay/theatre troupe - but the MEMBERs keep growing (& changing sometimes).

 

Hmm, where shall I start? I originally didn't have many plans, although I had a whole heap of dolls that I wanted to buy.

In my first year, I collected 10 dolls (quite a number of them I didn't plan). In my second year, I completed (bodied) 6, bought another 11 and collect 6 floating heads.

This year... well. I have so far, collected at least 6 full dolls, completed three (with another coming later in the year)... it's a little harder to explain how my dolly plans have disintegrated and changed with surprise finds on the MP, releases by SOOM and event gifts and releases by Fairyland.

I don't have set plans for what/how many dolls I want, just a list of dolls I'd love to have. Unfortunately, I end up buying dolls that aren't on my list...
I never intended to buy a girl doll, but my sister is only interested in girl dolls. Then I started thinking about how lovely it would be to have one... and we found an excuse--I mean reason-- to buy one together (Lets start a company! Yes! We must buy a doll for that! Yes!) So now I have a girl on the way, one I wouldn't have been able to justify buying on my own.
Also, with so much talk on the forums about making original characters into dolls, I got it in my head to convert a favorite on mine. But I couldn't find a sculpt that looked like him! So I just had to make him myself. And cast the head too, but that ended up costing over a hundred dollars ^_^;;
Then I saw a head for sale in the MP for cheap...he looked so handsome, and full of potential...! but I abstained. And then he popped up again later and I couldn't resist anymore. Now I've ordered an inexpensive body I liked the look of for him too.

So in the end I'm suddenly buying dolls when I thought I would wait, and none of them were what I had set my eyes on before. Maybe someday I'll get the others too...
