Reasons for Doll Sexuality

Jan 14, 2010

    1. In my opinion, I think sexuality comes natural to the character.
For example, I have TylerxNala (BoyxGirl) ZackxAva (BoyxGirl) & JasminexGrace (GirlxGirl)
Personally, my characters come naturally and then I choose a doll to fit that character. I don't think it's "popular" as such, I guess alot of dollie owners like yaoi. And you can kind of make "fairytales come to life" through your dolls

    2. Myself being said friend, yes. This is mostly correct. I don't think we ever did anything because it was popular... Our characters are what they are and there's no helping it, it's not just a matter of personal preference... Also on -at least one- occasion the male x male relationship wasn't even planned, it simply sort-of naturally progressed and happened on its own. xD;

    3. Since my dolls are dolls and can't really have sex, I don't really worry about this issue! :)

I will admit that I don't mind Anime/Manga/Yaoi. Straight or not, it's all fine with me.

If two boys or two girls look good posed together, hey, why not? (although I think part of the problem is that two boys together will make some people automatically assume they are gay, whereas two girls together are probably just good friends! -- I don't assume, myself, but some people do!)

I've got some of my dolls coupled up... some straight and a very few same-sex.

      ---

Popular? I have no idea what is popular and what isn't. I just do what makes sense to me, since they are my dolls...

    4. Recently I've been contemplating my dolls and incoming dolls and wondering about pairings. I'll have four SD's two girls and two boys. Four MSD's three girls and one boy. So clearly if I want to pair my dolls they can't all be girl/boy. Then I started thinking, why am I so insistent on pairing them up? Okay yes I am in a happy relationship but do I really need to make my dolls into a couple?
It sounds weird but I'm going to wait and see what happens, will two of my dolls just look right together, will they all not mesh in a romantic way.

    5. I used to be into yaoi too, but now I have a mixed feeling about the genre.
I see some problematic elements in the genre, but I also love the fact that some women feel more free to explore and express their sexuality in a safe way.

In my doll family, as it currently is, there are no gay men.
      I have:
      1 asexual and aromantic girl
      1 aromantic and heterosexual woman
      2 heterosexual men
      5 heterosexual women
      2 pansexual women
      1 lesbian woman

I have planned both bisexual, pansexual, asexual and heterosexual men and women though. I try to get a proper representation in among my dolls.

    6. I second the media issue and there fact that are lots of us queers out there, more than people know. However, a lot of gay doll characters are very stereotypical, which might reinforce stereotypes and could be mildly detrimental... maybe.

    7. Lol, I'd agree with this, or at least that's how I feel sometimes. I only have one doll so far, but I've been thinking about two dolls, two males. It's probably the influence of the yaoi community or whatever you'd like to call it; I think they fit well together. But I'm also planning a mxf couple. Good discussions so far.

    8. Well, so far, my dolls are asexual... At least their characters seem to be. One is an embodiment of an ancient god that is definitely 100% not interested in any of that human sex stuff (he doesn't look down on it, not at all. He loves humans and is amused by how important sex is to them, but he's just... not interested. He didn't even bother giving his corporeal form any genitalia).

My incoming doll is a little girl version of my already young girl character, who is absolutely not at all interested in any sort of romance and would take superheroes and saving the world with her friends over romance any day. I sort of assume that when she grows up, sexy things become interesting to her, but... I'm having difficultly pinning down the kinds of people she'd be interested in. There seems to be some juvenile romantic connection developing between her and another character, who is a member of an all-female alien species, so I guess that's a possible "yes" for other girls...? Guh, I dunno. I don't really think about it with her, to be honest. =/

My adult characters, who don't have doll forms yet, come in all kinds of sexualities/races/gender configurations. Simply because that's how they came to me, just like real people.

    9. Well there's a Polyamory couple (Clover+Makemake+Takine+Vinayaka, and Makemake is with Takine, Clover and Zoey, Takine only with Clover and Makemake)
Sarah and Patrick are a hetero couple, but both are "complicated" with Syrinx
Zoey as mentioned, is in a hetero relationship with Makemake

    10. I have several male dolls in same-sex relationships, but it has nothing to do with yaoi/anime/etc or a preference for men. None of my characters are fairytale romances, or put together for the 'hot' factor, they're just normal people in normal relationships.

I think I have so many because starting out, I really didn't like girl dolls. So, in order to have couples, they sort of HAD to date guys. But lately, I've been finding more girl dolls I like, and have friends with female dolls that I role play with, and the ratio is starting to balance out more. I'm not changing the orientation of older characters at all, I just kind of let the story flow and see where it leads. I have some dolls with set in stone sexualities from the start, some just go with whoever seems to draw their attention, others, I still don't know for sure what gender they prefer (if any).

Of my 33 dolls (home, in the works, and planned) 5 are gay, 13 are bisexual (5 in same-sex relationships, 4 in opposite-sex relationships, 4 single), 11 are straight, 1 is asexual, 1 is pansexual and one is a baby so it's unknown as of yet. And I have one teen that isn't sure if he's straight or asexual.

    11. Pretty much all my dolls are gay. I've got three gay guys, one bi and one straight, and when it comes to the girls, I have one straight and the rest are gay or bi (I can count the guys on one hand, but not the girls, so I'll just make a general statement about them). I am gay, and a girl, so to me it's more natural to have gay girls or girls in relationships with girls, and I guess that for guys also I can sympathize more with them if they're in a relationship with someone of the same sex.
So yeah, in my case my dolls' characters' sexuality reflect my own sexuality.

    12. I remember years ago I was one of these Yaoi-loving girls who had only gay male characters.
Everyone was gay, no matter what, no matter how silly and unrealistic it was.
And if someone wasn't gay he wasn't for long, there was always some silly reason why he would end up with a guy :XD:

That was roughly 10 years ago.
I know a lot of people who went through the same phase and usually they grow out of it when they start to explore their own sexuality or realize how silly it is if just everyone is gay.
Homosexuals are still a minority (saying that as a bisexual, but mostly with same sex partners, person myself) and having a cast of 30+ characters that are all gay males seems a bit strange to me, but I'm a person who likes to have a "realistic" cast of characters, and diversity is usually (not always) more realistic than having a single group of minority X.
Actually my characters nowadays are either asexual (because of various reasons) or bisexual (with different levels of attraction to male and female, like one guy is predominantly into women and only partly into men etc.), with only a very few true hetero or homosexual characters inbetween.

However, what we have to keep in mind is that this whole male/male thing is sometimes a sexual fantasy.
Just like many men phantasize about female/female it's not uncommon that a woman might fantasize about two men doing it. Someone already mentioned it -> "I like men, so two men is just double the fun to look at", that's also the reason why a lot of gay porn, or in our case gay dolls, is so unrealistic and nothing like the real deal.
After all it's not supposed to be realistic, porn of that kind exists out of fun and because it's nice to look at, and it's the same with dolls. Not everyone makes a character because he wants to bring in some diversity, because he wants to express something that is important to him or he can relate to (like a Trans person who has a Trans doll, or a homosexual person with a big cast of homosexual characters).
They do it because it's nice to look at for them, and as long as it's not too creepy/fetishizing or humiliating I'm okay with that.
Just don't be rude and maybe do at least a tiny bit of reasearch to not accidentaly dive into a pool of disgusting and hurtful stereotypes when making your character.

And, if you think about it, the hobby DOES after all mostly consist of women.
If you look at the DD (Dollfie Dream) hobby, where actually the majority of the collectors seem to be male and where you have pretty much only female dolls, nearly all of them are lesbians or at least the sexual fantasy version of a lesbian.
That's not really a surprise, and it's not a surprise if you look at it the other way round and look at our hobby.

    13. My dolls (35 so far) are shelling characters based loosely on the dynamics of a certain segment of the population around me (that I'm familiar with...). I have 2 gay couples (guys) & 1 lesbian couple. NOT yaoi BTW. They cosplay yaoi sometimes tho...

    14. i'm not a fan of anime\manga yaoi theme but i'm not against homosexuality at all. but in spite of the fact that hzdoll mostly made like prototypes of Heise yaoi novel, my doll is straight.
when i look at him, i think he'd rather kill me, than give me a chance to make some BL xD

    15. I completely agree.
I get enough of hetero normativity shoved in my face everyday. When I create my own characters I get to set the rules. I've created an entire species that are predominately homosexual. I've got gay, lesbian, pansexual and asexual characters. Most of them are demisexual since that is what I find attractive. I've got most genders included among the characters but not all have been dolly-fied yet.
There are no hetero characters among my dolls and there never will be.

    16. I'm interested in both and I think that does play a factor. I also think it's cause some people do base their dolls off their existing characters. I have a friend who did the same with her two male characters who are in a relationship c:

    17. My dolls are characters from my novels. I write m/m erotica. I have have female characters in the stories but none have ever demanded to come home (for which my wallet is exceedingly grateful). I have no girl dolls (most don't appeal to me). I have one female doll on my maybe someday list but it's highly doubtful that I'll ever bring her home. If I did, she'd need her lover (which makes my wallet weep in pain), who is male. However, their relationship can't be strictly called hetro as she is a female identifying hermaphrodite (one side of her genetic heritage involves a triple-sexed species) and she appreciates it when all her assorted bits come into play in the bedroom.

The vast majority of my characters are bi with a preference for males. Out of currently 24 dolls, only 6 are gay. Of the ones that are bi, some (the demons and gods) are simply opportunistic when it comes to partners (although they are now in same sex relationships). If a man catches their fancy, great. If a woman snags their interest, fantastic.

    18. So far I have:
Blaze- female, non-sexual, non romantic (As I am)
Yin- female straight, based on a favorite anime character
Sparrow- she's still a child, but will have a boy as a close friend
Kali- not human, female, non sexual, maybe a bit romantic

      Planned
Hei- male, straight, boyfriend of Yin, also based on an anime character
      probably a lesbian couple
a man and a girl in a strong platonic relationship

I don't have any male couples planned, but don't have a problem with it. Two of my OT dolls have characters in a lesbian relationship.

    19. As I wait for my doll, I'm still attempting to flesh out a character in my head for who he will become, but for now I'm simply going to design him after myself, which is where his homosexuality will stem from (Like father like son, as they say. Or is it mother?). I've never been good at designing characters, unfortunately. Until that time, he will simply be a Mini-Me. *pinky to mouth action*

    20. Hm, it's not something I really think about. The characters just kind of form. So far I have a 12 year old boy and 14 year old girl with like a childhood crush thing going on but that's the only romance my characters have. Other than that I have 2 little little kids (4 and 7 so who knows),1 gay doll, one straight, and one where it's never come up so who knows? Maybe asexual?
