Resinsoul centaurs!

May 18, 2016

    1. I am so in love with these, looking to get one for Christmas, maybe brown deer half and tan human half. It's a shame there aren't more pictures around :P

    2. Bought a Winter 2 weeks ago :) so exited! Hope he comes soon

    3. CERVITAUR - finally I know what to call them LOL thanks for that :XD: And just as I'd managed to fight off the desire to order one - now I 'need' one again - your excitement is infectious!

no I don't need more temptation LOL - I hope you can get one soon though :whee:

wow I hope so too - I'm looking forward to more pics of these little beauties, especially now I know what to call them LOL

    4. @elve haha, sorry for the extra temptation...

I can't say as 'cervitaur' is linguistically correct, but it's what I've seen people call half-deer folk online... so without anything more correct, it's what I've been using.

    5. sounds better than 'Cent... no.... DEER-taur' which is what I've been calling them till now :whee:

    6. I've been looking at these ones for some time, I only hear nice opinions and see brilliant photos of the Resinsoul centaurs in general. May I ask if there are any disadvantages in them at all? As all the feedback from the owners seems totally positive and I've almost decided to get one of the lovely ones myself too... :)

    7. They are awesome! I think the posing isn't quite as good as one might like. I've drilled and modded all of the legs on mine for a greater range of motion.
HOWEVER, I don't think that's necessary to do, because hot glue and wiring will instantly make the doll a significantly better poser. Both those things are easily undone, so you don't have to mod at all if you're not confident with it. Hot glue and wiring alone make a huge difference.

Otherwise though, they're beautifully sculpted and proportioned! One you have wiring in there, the legs will do everything you want no problem. I don't really count the posing as a disadvantage since this is the ONLY well-proportioned yosd centaur I've ever seen (yes, over LUTS, which are beautiful but the horse bodies are way too small to support the human torso and head.) and it's a very simple/easy fix!

    8. Thank you so very much for your reply! I believe posing wouldn't be a real issue for me, especially as I'd follow your advice on using the wiring (I've got some experience with bigger dolls and it went well there). Modding is above my skills so if it's not necessary I'd prefer to avoid it, but I'd be more concerned if the hands wouldn't take the needed posing as with the legs it's fine as long as the doll stands reliably. May I ask if I understand it right and with the proper wiring they stand properly "on all four" and don't require any stands? I'm already so excited about getting the tiny -taur ^^

    9. They stand well on all fours without wiring actually! :D So if standing on all fours is all you'd like them to do, they'll be perfect as is! I like to be able to have the doll pull a trotting pose, or stamping the front hooves for example, so wiring works well for me (plus the drilling I've done on the back legs).

The arms are actually fantastic. Previously Resinsoul have used a cup-joint system for their double-jointed 1/6 dolls and in my opinion it's not up to scratch at all, single-jointed poses better than that. They've improved the 1/6 double-joints for the deers specifically, and the elbows now use a peanut style joint, meaning they hold poses significantly better. I would still recommend wiring though! Resinsoul's resin is smooth, but actually too smooth to have enough friction at times. Hot glueing and wiring make a huge improvement to the joints.

Congrats on deciding to get one! :D If you follow the link on my profile to my doll tumblr, you can see plenty of photos of mine if you're interested! All of his photoshoots so far are from before wiring, so they'll give you a good idea of how the doll poses and looks without wire to help.

    10. The small size, four legs, and hooves as opposed to feet make my little deer-taur the sturdiest out of all 14 of my dolls! She is the only one I would trust to stand there while I walk away to go do something else, very sturdy!

    11. I leave mine standing all the time.

    12. Yeah, one thing I'm really looking forward to about a quadropedal doll is being able to just leave her standing without worries! Billy is my stablest stander yet, but I still wouldn't leave him standing on a table while I'm not nearby.

    13. Me too! Mine's been standing in a glassed in cupboard for 3 weeks, since we were having company.

    14. *bump* I just found Spring in stock with angelesque! Total impulse buy - not even a nanosecond of thought went into it I just POUNCED - let's hope nobody else pounced at the same time, or I'll be in for a wait LOL - I have no idea how I'll style him/her or anything - not given it a thought, so that will keep me occupied nicely now :whee: Keep posting pics of your little deer :D

    17. I keep being on the fence about selling her/him... I love the sculpting and its sweet but I just sit and stare are it and wonder... Now what?!

    18. @elve @OMFGPENGUINS : Congratulations to you both! :celebrateI hope you have lots of fun with your new beings.

I understand where you're coming from. My Autumn is a bit of an outlier in my planned collection (strong Asian mythology influence).

And now for something (not quite) completely different...

For me, one who is partially in this for the clothing, I have found that centaur-like shapes require a different mindset. Shoes are never a consideration. Pants are right out. Skirts need to be very generous in order to accommodate a four-legged being. Cylindrical dresses, such as traditional kimonos, won't work. I figured on all of this going in.

One challenge I hadn't anticipated is that back length became very important because it meets at essentially a right angle to the deer part. Long hair has to be swept to the side(s) of the body. Sweaters that I knit for her can only be so long or need to be modified at that part of the waist. Precision in this area is more necessary for proper drape and fit than it would be for a human-shaped being.

Now, none of this may be a big deal to a lot of people, and I appreciate the challenges inherent in my deer, but I wanted to present this so people can consider these points in their decision making.

      Hope it helps.

    19. Thank you! I look forward to seeing your lovely girl too :D Mine is in normal skintone - not my first choice for colour so I guess I'll have to work around it :)

thank you! :D I can't see your pics though - I searched on flickr for them too but nothing came up - did you tag the photos?

yes I'm afraid of this happening to me too LOL - impulse buy as I was so excited when they came out! But so far my mind is a total blank over this little one - nothing in spite of an hour of pacing up and down thinking out loud about it last night - although the name Juniper presented itself, which is a start I guess

Thank you! :D yes they are either fun or challenging to dress, depending on which way you look at it :whee: I had a Luts Yul 'cervitaur' a year or so ago and exactly the same problem - she was so lovely and yet I just couldn't figure out a character or style of dress for her - gave up in the end and sold her. I'm hoping a smaller version won't be as challenging!

    20. I'm looking forward to the challenge of dressing my Autumn when she arrives-- at least with the things I make, I'll be working based on those things. The only thing I have waiting for her is a crop top to keep her from sitting around naked while I sew, haha. Well, that and a hoodie that used to be Billy's, he just never wears it. I hope it fits her nicely-- it was made for a tiny teddy bear, so the hood has ear holes that would be adorable with her antlers.

I do think a long coat with tails might work, though-- stopping at the deer half and splitting off, not just a slit up the back that it would awkwardly fall to either side of, but a slight gap and some shaping to said tails... I'll just have to play around with what I think looks best when it comes to things like robe/gowns-- would a slit up the back and the fabric falling to either side look okay to me, or would I rather have something fall along her back and hang open in the front? I'm not sure yet. But I'll see what shapes seem to work on her, and when it comes to thinks that are too long, whether or not I like the look of them bunching up in the back because it feels more 'real' for her to have some things fit awkwardly, or if I hate it. I mean... I know just on humans of different shapes and sizes, some things will look great on one person and bunch and drape awkwardly on another, so... I'll see how it goes.

I can understand, though, how some people would rather not have to worry about imperfect fits. I don't know yet how much different things will bother me... but I'm at a place where I can take on a Project like a difficult-to-dress doll body, which is part of the difference for me. Something that would have felt impossible a couple months ago is something that just feels like a fun/energizing challenge now.
