That is actually rather standard for BJDs. Some bodies - like Thaasa, Domuya's flexi, and newer Volks bodies - SD16 and so on - have more joints and can accomplish a larger range of motion. I do think that a doll should be able to A: stand and B: sit, though.
If the upper (or only, depending on which torso you got) joint is bent, the clothed seated girl looks much better. Push the shoulder section forwards and the lower section back a bit. I completely surprised a woman at a local meet, because she had her LB Rainy sitting like this: / and complained about it. I asked first, and then moved the joint; doll sits upright: l and owner is surprised. The Rainy resin is smooth, but not that shiny until you bring a camera into play; it photographs much shinier than it looks regularly. It's smooth where the seams used to be, too. Ann in CT
I have an Elfdoll Sooah with large bust... My first impression was its low weight but she sits perfectly, the texture of its skin is silky and pleasant since they send them perfectly sanded... She shine a litle when the light goes down directly, the articulations are perfectly dissembled... The only problem was the clotes... The girls have a hips of 28 cm and they use model doll clothes...
I found my Elfdoll SOOAH an absolute nightmare to try and pose. (she is the small bust version) She will stand with a large amount of fiddling, but thats pretty much it. I have re-strung her, hot glue sueded her, and still she's hopeless. I can't say she was worth the money i spent, no-where close. My bobobie Pandora, bought for less than half the cost of my sooah, is an incredible poser in comparison, and i would recomend ANY OTHER DOLL than elfdoll for a first doll, it nearly put me off BJD's completely. Also, whilst natural, their body shape is some what squat, and stocky, and not hugely attractive, and very undetailed. If i could wind back the clock, i would never have bought her, but despite this, i do love her, she was my first, and will always be a bit special, but i will always wish she was more poseable!
My first doll was a LB Sooah then I purchased a DOC Twingkey, so I don't have another large doll to compare to. I adore my dear Sooah greatly. I can get her to stand, I often lean her back when sitting because I'm used to pullips. Her breasts are large and can look like they are sticking out sometimes, plus I find them a bit difficult to tailor clothing to. But she doesn't look like a porn star and I think I just need more experience posing her. She did drop a foot, which scared me at first but was so easy to fix though is a common problem with the mold. I love her wrists and delicate hands. I don't like her feet, they are too flat on the bottom. I like the sculpt of her bum. And typing that now makes me feel like a perv. I found the resin on the DOD girl some what disapointing. I have nearly cut myself on her sharp edges, I need to sand them down better. She's adorable, but to me the Rainy girl feels like she's higher quality in resin, no seams to sand down, smooth and the color feels more warm and inviting. Some of this I'm sure is just personal taste.
I have an Elfdoll Red, which is still my first and only doll. ^^ So my opinion on how they are compared to other dolls isn't the best, but I have been with my friends who own quite a variety of different dolls. When I was with them to notice the difference, I have noticed that Elfdoll's bodies are shorter than most other dolls. There is the option on the site to choose the normal 60 cm body, then they also have the option to choose a taller body. I'm not quite sure how many cm it is taller...but if you want one taller than say a Luts doll, it might be best to choose that option. ^-^ I think the taller body is also more muscular...but I could be wrong. That's how it looked with image comparisons. That also comes to the other thing which I wasn't entirely happy about. Elfdoll bodies for males are built. I wanted a smoother stomach rather than a slightly defined sixpack, but Elfdoll resin is extremely impossible to match up with any other company. The tint is slightly more pinkish. Some very postive things about them though is that their bodies are very smooth, and they remove the seam lines for you. Which I personally like a whole lot better. ^_^ They also stand very well. They're legs are not as flimsy as Luts dolls can be. And the feet are a bit smaller, so if you like girls shoes, you can get away with SD13 girl shoes on Elfdoll males. XD The final thing that is a bit of a pain is they're only single jointed...and they are quite difficult to pose. x___x It's a pain, especially if you're somebody like me and enjoy posing and taking photos of your doll. But I learn to deal with it, and get out of him what I have. Despite some of the flaws they may have, I love him very much. They're wonderful dolls, really.
I notice not a lot of people are commenting on the boys (mostly girls?) but I'll throw in my two cents as well ^^ My Wu is very proportional to his size, and the "shiny" of the resin really isn't all that noticeable, even in most of the pictures I take. There are absolutely no seams, which is wonderful IMO They are a good weight, as well. The "worst" thing of the body I think is the posability. While it's passable, sometimes I'm in shock that he won't pose as well as my El. But then, my El's been sueded, so I need to think of this, too. I think that with a bit of sueding/wiring, they would be able to pose very well
What is the size of the 'Tall' Body vs the 'Standard' Body? I'm wanting to get Elfdoll Red, but 57cm is to small, but then 64cm is to tall... and that's what I seem to find about the dolls. -Anneke
I just received my Dollmore clothes for my Soah. I ordered her a pair of wonderful jeans, and low and behold there is no way those jeans are going to fit around her waist! Elfdoll waists must be much wider than other 60cm dolls.
Wow, the height difference can't be that different between the two, I mean, isn't it just the legs that were redesigned? Sera~
I will try to post a chart of comparitive girls measurements. There is one on another tread also. I have done some experimenting, and it is indeed possible to make Shiori sit up at an | angle if you push hard on the upper part of her body - interesting...! I don't think it should be nessecary, though. A doll should sit off the bat - like my Volks girls! Large waist? In my experience the Rainydoll waist is very slim, but they do have deep chests and wide hips... There always appears "Oh no, my Rainydoll girl can't wear anything" threads in this forum, and I just don't get it. My Shiori wears regular stuff tailored for Volks girls all the time, and I think there's been like one skirt and one pair of shoes she couldn't get into in all of her 1.5 years of life. Tight fitting pants would be difficult to fit a RD girl into, though, due to their sizable thighs...
Thanks for all the input but i have another question is there a diff betweent he female 2 part small bust and 3 part large bust? in posibility and anything else? thanks
My boyfriend has an Elfdoll Red on the new taller body, which I think is closer to 63cm. I have this crappy pic of him standing next to my 60cm Soom Gena and 70cm Dollzone Wing. (It's arrival day, poor Sid's naked and Medic doesn't have a wig. >_>) The body poses great straight out of the box. In fact, I sueded our other three dolls over the past couple of days, but the Red doesn't need it. It is a bit hard to get him to stand, but my boyfriend has been able to master the balancing act and can now get him standing pretty solid in just moments. Boots help, of course.
I am planing on getting an elf doll, but there seem to be a bit of issues with the bodys as I am reading. Is it possible to buy a head alone from elfdoll, and possible match it up with for example a luts body? Have people tryed this and is size diff and coloring a big issue? I am just woundering if it may be possible to get the head I want and place it on a more possable body...
Elfdoll normal (female) is a great match to Domuya normal but unfortunately Elfdoll does not sell heads separately and other than the sleep heads they are rarely available in the marketplace
my elfdolls all sit much better than my happydoll , dollmore, or my volks. they do not get the caved in chest look that some of my other dolls get.
