Right up their skirts... for some strange reason...

Jun 4, 2007

    1. I guess it's everyone's way of 'inspecting' the doll. I'm still a little shocked at how often it happends.

    2. lol!! I've seen people do that with Christmas Fairies! No one has done that to my dolls thus far. It wouldn't bother me if they looked, though I would think they were the strange one. ;)
I guess it just human curiousity. Most people just giggle when I confirm they have genitalia.

    3. I tell people about their 'correctness' in that area. Most people won't do it if I say that. But for the curious that can't be tamed by my simple statement I still get the skirt lift or the pants down. I think with dolls like Barbie and Ken who are almost genderless down there, it's just interesting to see on a doll for a non owner. I don't care, I think their curiosity is funny because I did that with my first doll.

    4. I've not had anyone do that to my dolls as of yet.. but then again, I haven't taken them anywhere near my friends or public places either. I think if I had a bigger girl doll and someone said "let's see her pussy!" I would be mortified.

    5. I have had people start pulling on his pants and flipping my doll (and yes he has tried on skirts). As long as they don't start stripping him to get a closer look I don't mind. Although to be honest when I picked him up for the first time I did the same kind of motion of turning him and flipping him upside-down. It wasn't that I was trying to look up his skirt (well... they come without clothing on) it's just that I have a desire to turn things to look at them from all angles when it's something new. I sort of turned my friend's doll like that when she let me hold it as well and yes at some point I could see up her skirt but I wasn't really paying much attention to that. So I do think it's possible people turning the dolls might just be curious about how the doll is put together. I turn things that aren't dolls too...like when I bought a lamp...or a bag.

I also think people are just curious to see if the dolls really are anatomically correct sometimes since I warn them they are. They want to see what I mean. And then give me weird looks.

    6. Oddly enough, when I was at a con, I handed my male doll, wearing pants, to someone who then proceeded to turn him over and look at his butt.

Just. Stared at his butt for a second. o.0

And yes, my little girl has been tipped over more times than I care to remember, but luckily she has cute little puffy undies. You know, balloon pants, little baby bloomers, PUMPKIN PANTIES! XD </soul eater refference>

    7. YES!

It really bugs me! It's so bizarre. Often one of the first questions I'm asked is "is she wearing underwear?" and when I eventually hand them over I just sit there and cringe as they flip her over to peak underneath. I'm just left there wondering why on earth they're perving on my doll. Luckily, at that point her wig usually falls off and freaks them out because they think they've broken her, so I get to take her back.

      Strange people...

    8. I read this thread a few weeks back and giggled through every post! To my surprise I showed my doll to my best friend the other day, and what did she do? Turned her upside down and looked up her skirt! I almost died laughing! I would really like to know the psychology behind this odd, but apparently common, behavior. XD

    9. I've never had this happen, but I can only speculate that it's partially because there are so many fashion dolls (i.e. Barbies, Monster High, etc.) that have sculpted-on underwear and the peeps are curious whether the dolls wear undies. Honestly though, I wouldn't look up a doll's skirt. She doesn't have anything I haven't seen before, why in the world would I want to see it in resin?

Mari-kitty- You get 10,000,000 bonus points in life for mentioning Soul Eater. :D

    10. I tend to check up the skirts because I like to see what undies the doll has on especially if they are dressed in vintage / period costumes. I like to see if undies are also vintage. But I have never just pulled down the boys trousers - except on my own doll - probably because I haven't met anyone else with bjds apart from my sister.

    11. Well some of my friends check under the skirt and some don't even want to touch the dolls since they are so "expensive". Oddly enough, I am the one telling my friends to check under the dollies skirts and then we can all laugh at them together. The nipples are also a thing to wonder about. This is just because even I don't quite understand why a doll needs to be anatomically correct, but it doesn't bother me in any way :D

And yes, when my friend got her first male BJD the first thing we did was to check his package XD We just had to since it seems so silly :D

    12. HAHAHAHA! X3 Oh I've never had that happen yet but I'll keep it in mind ;)

I think a persons first reaction is to look up the skirt is a subconscious curiosity. "According to the aesthetics of the doll, I wonder what it looks like down there." Looking back, I think little children look up the skirt less than adults do. It's not like they're thinking its a sex doll or anything, just a subconscious curiosity. But this is just my thoughts on the matter.

    13. I've never had anyone want to see. :P However, whenever they find out just how anatomically correct they are... they flip or are just like; "WHY!?" LOL!! XD;;;

    14. On the one hand, I try to take it as a compliment, that my doll is so well dressed they want to see the tiny, detailed undies. It's better than the alternative, though she is definitely a more interesting sight than Barbie's plastic-molded floral panties. Totally serious last sentence there. ;)

    15. I have to say I've been a toy collector for almost two decades now and I always like to look at the hip area to see the jointing. Good nicely formed joints = quality. They might not be trying to see genitals they may just be collectors checking out a toy they deem interesting. :)

    16. I think, if it's a doll that looks fairly realistic, they're trying to see how realistic, including the clothing. I once went straight from a toy store, carrying a fancy designer "Little Women" doll, to a comic book store. The young woman behind the counter was very curious and asked me to open the box. After declaring the doll "creepy", she promptly lifted its skirt. Fortunately it was wearing pantaloons. But it was a bit odd to see this very modern young woman, dressed all in black, with multiple piercings, etc., fussing over the doll in lace trimmed skirt and pinafore and pantaloons. It had to be the details of the clothing; I don't think she expected the doll to be anatomically correct!

Tl;dr it doesn't happen only to BJDs. But if people look up a BJD's skirt and get a little shock, I guess they deserve it.

    17. Gosh, now i'm more in a panic to get my girl some underwear.:|
      I WOULD BE FURIOUS!:x
      That's rude,and so disrespectful...and kinda awkward moment.

    18. The people who've had the chance to see my dolls in person (I usually keep them inside their boxes at all times, only bring them out for photoshoots) have not tried to look up their skirts, and when they've seen me change them they only act a little stiff and uncomfortable when I am changing my boy and not the girls.

I guess having a little extra down there is too much for some people to handle, but at least I have not heard any negative comments about it. Only once one of the girls at my work picked him up and touch his groin when she picked him up (he was wearing leggings because he was in cosplay as Link from Legend of Zelda) and she said: "Oh! he even has one of those too!!" to which another girl replied: "Duh! I mean it's supposed to be a realistic doll!!! Doesn't your boyfriend have one of those too?" We all laughed it off and that was the end of it.

    19. I'm a bit of an exhibitionist when it comes to my doll so I have no qualms about showing people his naughty bits. I think it's just human nature to want to look, especially when one finds out the doll is actually atomically correct.

    20. Mim wears a tutu without underwear and Eli is naked anyways so I wouldn't make much sense to look under their skirts^^ And who cares about naked toddlers? :)
