Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Jan 29, 2021

    1. I have seen people damage there dolls because of wiring as well.. it puts more stress on the resin. I've done it on my resinsoul yu and a single jointed resinsoul msd body to help with posing but I was super careful while manipulating them because of the possibility of damage.

    2. Well my Xie Lian arrived in November, I ordered him in the last re-release he had and he came with the usual elastic, so I think my Hua Cheng is also gonna come with the elastic. It is hard to pose Xie Lian with the RGMbody-4 but I wonder if Hua Cheng's RGMbody-5 will be the same.

Is the wiring so helpful? I'm just worried that it will stain the resin or damage it or deteriorate it over time, I wonder, is this something that can be reversed? Can you take that off and put on the normal elastic later?
I've been a fan of Ringdoll's sculps for a looong time so I know I will keep buying their dolls in the future and I want to be sure about this :sweat

    3. I think you could probably remove the wiring if you ordered one of their future dolls, but it is supposed to help with stability in posing. I don't think Hua Cheng will come with it. They say it will start with orders of armored Zhou Yu (except Codename R & Jee)

    4. wow, lucky! mine ships next year so I'm hoping he does come with the option for wiring or he would be my second ringdoll who will probably pose weirdly. My Hua Cheng is fine and can mostly pose with a little less effort than my zhou yu (he's maximum effort). My only gripe with HC is the weight of the cuffs...without it he can definitely hold poses but i think i'm the outlier for this lol

and as what quill said, the wires probably can be removed by you and RD mentioned over twt you can specifically request them to not include wiring

    5. Yeah I read is something we can skip, it's just that I think I want to buy one out of curiosity, for example, the new guy, the teaser they posted today, OMG, I really liked the first picture of that boy, his face sculpt is gorgeous, so, In the hypothetical case that I bought it with the wire, could I remove it later? He's probably going to have the RGMbody-5 anyway, and if my Hua Cheng arrives someday next year, I will have two of these bodies, it's not a bad idea to have one as a guinea pig :wiggle

My Xie Lian already feels heavy, can't imagine how massive is going to be posing Hua Cheng, but his body looks better structured than the RGMbody-4. Your Zhou Yu is the version with RGMbody-3? is it heavy or does he lack balance? it's because it's beefier but shorter than RGMbody-5?

    6. If you order the new boy (and I agree, he looks gorgeous!!) you can request they leave it out! but Yeah I think you could probably remove it, but I think you'd have to unstring him to do so.

    7. Yes, ZY has the RGM03 body. The sculpt is really beautifully muscular and beefy and not thin muscle like the rest. Now that I've had chance to carry other people's crew and getting new, non Ringdolls of my own, ZY and HC definitely feel heftier. I think the weight really comes from the lower torso segment which affects how you approach balancing their bodies. The very top heavy feel added to the leg hip joints and tendency of the legs to go 'kicky' with slight posing adjustments can make things difficult at times. While this challenge has existed for me even when ZY was new....my experience was exacerbated by the fact that I blushed and restrung ZY using the same elastic he came with but ended up with a tighter restring; I had to walk away from Zhou Yu and leave him sitting on some days because he wouldn't balance and stand on his own.

Hua Cheng on the other hand, while still has the top heavy feel, he's less prone to balancing issues and I rarely need the support of a bracket. There are days when he can get a bit fussy with posing but nothing frustrating and stressful with my ZY.

    8. Congrats on everyone getting their dolls. I was thrilled to get mine and now I'm even happier now that the last of my Ringdoll binge has a faceup.
Meet Cary Tremblay. Ksitigarbha--the Virgo, he is so gorgeous.

    10. I got a two doll carrying case from Dollmore yesterday so I can carry Xie Lian and Hua Cheng together on trips! On the upside, it is beautiful, and incredibly well constructed. Feels very solid. On the downside… Xie Lian has to duck his head to fit in, so I fear Hua Cheng won’t fit! Guess I’ll just have to have him leaning a little.

    11. Thank you! I love my new redhead.

    12. he looks so regal and beautiful, I love Virgo's sculpt you're so lucky :whee:

Aww take a picture if you can!
Well, even when they are used to traveling in such a confined space :blush be careful that they are not going to bump into each other and could break a finger, scrape their nose, or even damage the eyelashes they come with, well at least the eyelashes can be replaced :sweat

    13. Transport them with heads off? at least if you have no issues with fiddling with the C hook i did that with my two boys in a rolling suitcase. gives me some confidence that the faceup won't be damaged

    14. a silly post:
I brought Hua cheng to a doll con in my county and i brought him inside this--its very extra it had lights and stuff inside LOL[IMG]

    15. That's a good idea! I'd feel bad to have "rolling" heads (even if they would be safely packed in the bag with the bodies and not actually rolling), but it may be the safest way to take them. Especially since I've heard of people being stopped by TSA because of the hooks before and having to deconstruct their dolls on the spot. I've taken Xie Lian on several flights and it hasn't happened yet, but he's definitely caused some suspicion. We'll see how Hua Cheng fits (I suspect he may fit normally if I bend his legs), but if he doesn't fit nicely with his head, then I'll probably have to decapitate him. For the best anyway, since Xie Lian always needs to wear an alternate wig when traveling because his default wig gets messed up soooo easily, and needs to be packed very carefully- this just saves needing to use the extra wig that really only gets used for that one purpose.

Haha, I love that! He looks great.

    16. Thank you! I had fun talking to my friends sounding very suspicious: "I took off his hands and head. I placed them in a separate bag, His [redacted] is detached too, I won't lose it, don't worry!" makes for fun conversation

I hope Fafa fits nicely and the carrier works out for you~ though I bet he would be happy to recreate the coffin scene with dianxia :D (not our hearts at the thought of them bumping lol!)
What I considered investing in are diving long fin cases or rolling trunks the size of those popular Rimowa 40in ones or the official ringdoll ones

    17. I have actually joked about getting one of the coffin carriers for the Hualian Nendoroid dolls! I'm keeping hope up that he may fit in this carrier, but he probably won't, so off with his head more than likely. Those rolling trunks would definitely be nice to have! Probably easier to carry too, since there's wheels- I partially bought this one because it was essentially the only one I saw that has the ability to carry two dolls... let me know if you find one of the rolling trunks that can fit two! For now, it'll be the small case with them.

    18. Oh my goodness I love this so much!! What a smart way to carry him in comfort and style!

    19. Thanks! I wish I had access to a version of it without the ridges--I saw some luggage pet carriers were in this style but I didn't trust the quality so I went for proper luggage which I can definitely use with some covers :D

Gosh, Ringdoll came out with PVC jointed hands?? And I am liking how accessible this is! PVC Jointed Hands

My only hesitation over pvc: they might stain faster and obviously they will retain color vs the resin of your doll!

    20. Ooh, the jointed hands are great! I wanted them for my Ringdolls, and finally they're an option. But I'm also hesitant with PVC. Not only with color matching and staining, but if they will look different in finish. I have a lot of PVC figures, and while I love them, the material does look very different from resin. Ringdoll didn't include any pictures of the hands on a doll without a blur on the rest of the doll (I'm guessing mostly for promotional purposes and not to cause confusion), which makes it even harder to tell if it would look right. Maybe this is a test run, and they'll come out with resin eventually?
