1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Jan 29, 2021

    1. It's actually a little gold tassled ornament with some beads on it. It has his number on the back of it. Totally different from what I was expecting.

    2. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng are licensed, so they have separate cards that have the bilibili holo logo sticker on them as their proof of authenticity.

    3. Interesting! I'm not sure which I prefer- the tassel medals are cool, but they're just staying in the box like all the other COAs, so I'm not sure it really matters at the end of the day. Maybe if I had a doll that would match the vibe I'd use it in their outfit like Ringdoll released pictures of, but still probably not.

    4. Yeah the medals look cool, but unless they can work in an outfit, they're just more things to unwrap. My loongsoul doll has a similar medallion and it's not quite the right scale to work in an outfit, so it just stays in the box (though he did come with a paper CoA too).

    5. Ohh so that's why, makes sense :XD:
haha, I hope I get the COA they currently have if I get to buy a new doll from them. I hope Ringdoll doesn't change the COA for a while, it was a little weird when they changed the last one so fast, barely lasted like a year.

    6. Doing my first BJD faceup on Kim is more difficult than expected! I’ve done some fashion doll faceup, and I thought not doing the irises would make it easier, but the pressure of such an expensive doll makes it way harder ^^; anyone have advice for eyebrows in particular? I’m struggling with making the lighter base that the detailed hairs are then put over. I’ve tried both pastels and paint, but I haven’t managed to get nice even eyebrows yet.

    7. I like going in with a light shade of pastels first and shaping them with a kneaded eraser and then sealing them before doing other details. I have seen some people make like a stencil of sort with the shape cut out of painter's tape then filling that with pastel or pencil, paint etc. but haven't tried that. I tend to think of the old beauty adage "brows should be sisters not twins" and try not to sweat it if they're not perfectly even or matched.
To help shape them easier, it might be helpful to find the starting, arch and ending angles. On a fashion doll it's a little harder imo because they're so small, but you can use the end of a thin paintbrush or a toothpick, etc, line it up vertically along the side of the nostril and make some kind of mark for where they should start; angle it from the nostril about 1/2-2/3 through the eye cavity to get where the arch should be (on a person, you'd line this up with the outer edge of the iris when looking forward); still keeping it lined up with the nose, angle it to the outer corner of the eye to figure out where the tail should be, then connect your marks. This should give you a rough guideline of the eyebrows shape to suit the specific face sculpt

    8. Thank you! I'll try that. I tried doing the painter's tape technique, but it was difficult to get them lined up and it would end up looking like he was raising an eyebrow. It may be best to just do them without painter's tape and fix them with a kneaded eraser. I'll have to figure out what color I do them in- the doll will have a black wig, but black pastels obviously stick more, so maybe I'll do them in a light blue and go back over again when I get a shape I like.

    9. Oh are you using two painter's tape stencils? I've seen people make one big one that goes over the full face and maybe that would help?
I usually use a light shade of brown, since i tend to keep it as a base, but blue can work for black hair too if it shows through a little!

    10. Yep, I was using two cut with my Cricut. I think the biggest problem was the cuts themselves somehow not turning out even on both sides despite using the exact same vector, but oh well.
I may end up with brown, but the color scheme I'm going for is more cold and blue based (more cold black hair, blue eyes) so I might end up using a gray blueish. If I don't like it though, a dusty brown is always a good option.

    11. I look forward to seeing how it goes!

    12. Wow, the pastels with kneaded eraser trick worked wonders! Thank you so much for the advice!

    13. @NuttyRojita
Thank you so much for sharing the infos about red umbrellas! :kitty2

To be honest, I still don't understand why Ringdoll didn't give Hua Cheng his own in the full set. ;)

    14. Agreed! Especially since it was included in the pictures. I know not everything in pictures is included, but it was a prop featured pretty often and I’m guessing one with a relatively low production cost- at least significantly lower than E’Ming. They didn’t even have to do the fancy umbrella with the strings, I would have been happy with just a plain umbrella (though I’m totally buying the one with strings and butterflies that was linked here). They also seem to have pretty nice shoes at the store… hopefully they’d fit.

    15. Ringdoll recently launched its 'Aluminum Wire String Service'.
May I ask: Is this better or worse than the old stringing method? Or what's the difference? :?
Unfortunately, as a BJD beginner, I didn't understand it. :sweat

    16. For the most part, it allows for better posing and longevity as the wires dont get loose like elastics would. I have heard that as wires are much more sturdy that in some cases the resin gets damaged. They can also rust too depending on the humidity etc. Ringdoll will send out all their dolls now with wires as default unless you specify it at the time of order.

    17. Thank you very much for your explanation! Now I know what to expect of Ringdoll. :kitty2
And if I ever buy another doll from this company, I'll probably choose the 'old school' stringing way. :kitty2

    18. The new doll posted today, Xiahou Dun, gave me a heart attack when I saw him this morning because I thought they were releasing SenKai again(he's sooo cute). But when I gave him propper look my hopes were shattered lol, he's not bad, just his face is a little similar to MaChao that's still on sale. I like the sassy costume but I guess he's going to be expensive because of the everlasting weapon they usually sell with these dolls and 05Body; I know you can skip de weapon but sometimes I feel guilty thinking about the idea of not getting the full thing :sweat

    19. I saw the costume and really hope that it'll available to purchase.

    20. Anyone know of any Ringdoll grown sculpts with wider eyes, preferably on the RGM4 body? I'd like to make a doll of my other favorite KnY character to top off my shrine to that one, but most Ringdoll Grown Dolls have more mature faces. If I have to go to another company or use a teen body, it's not necessarily the end of the world, but I do like having all of my dolls in the same scale... (plus the convenience of reusing patterns and not having to draft new ones).
