Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Oh no, Cryan was so pretty! I also really liked Miu, Mu SP, and Momonosuke. I probably wouldn't have bought them, but it's too bad... It's crazy that they're even getting rid of the basic doll too. I wonder why, because this feels like a rather large amount of full sets to discontinue at once. Anyone know if there's something going on down at Ringdoll HQ?

 

Same here... I was planning (more like hoping) to get Lexi. I really love the full set! I thought I'd go for it on Black Friday or something, but....
It's really impossible for me to invest in it this month, so its a sad goodbye to Lexi...
Shame on me actually, because I was putting the idea off saying "oh, he'll be there, so it's ok"...
I just wish Ringdoll had given us a bit more time...

 

Maybe Ringdoll wanna remake these dolls or put them on RGM5 body? Given the trend they follow nowadays it might be a possibility....

 

But they are getting rid of a lot of teens, and if they are gonna remake something it better be the bodies, if they focus on their bodies I would understand it... Yumeo teen is out but I think his kid version is still a hit? that's why he stays? I don't know, but it hurts that I won't get Morin, he was my favorite teen after Xian Zhao got discontinued his fullset is a piece of art...

Chen Si was so loved when he got release, At least his artist version (with 2 additional and limited faceups) was sold out immediately, I will get it if they take him out to remake him with the 05 body.

But Lexi and Cryan has the 04 bodies, maybe Lexi's fullset is too expensive and that's why he's out, but getting rid of Cryan as a whole, it's sus

Amaoni would have been popular if they had made an open-eyed version of him, because his set is freaking beautiful, but I'm not crazy about closed-eyed dolls...

Momonosuke IS-SO-BEAUTIFUL another regret...it's possible for him to come back with the 05 body, but his set looks expensive so who knows

These sets are so well made, the esthetics are so beautiful and creative, as I said before, it's a waste to lose these designs, another company will come and make a loose remix of these and call it a day, but dolls this pretty and this quality with Ringdoll was something that could make anyone excited...

 

Honestly, I thought some of these full sets had already sold out, like Lexi, so i was surprised to see this! They only show this version of Cryan, so it's odd that they're discontinuing him. I'd think they'd be discontinuing both versions if they're discontinuing the sculpt over all. I wonder what sculpts they'll be releasing in their stead.

 

Sounds like an artist is leaving Ringdoll to me. Most doll companies don't seem to be able to continue selling a sculptor's work after they have left the company. Might also explain the short notice before discontinuation too. . .

 

I am thinking about getting Cryan before he gets discontinued.
Anyone has their Ringdoll head on a dfh 86cm body? I know dfh does color matching so they came into my mind.

Also; does the new wire addition work well for Ringdoll bodies? (I read Ringdoll now puts wire in the dolls)

But does anyone know if there's a difference in sculpt between the regular version and the SP one? I tried comparing the pictures but to me it seems that only the mouth is slightly more open in the SP (or it might be the angle of the pics actually )

 

Edit: Xie Lian is an 04, cleared that as it might confuse people!

I was not able to get RD's service but I managed to commission someone to do the wiring for me on the RGM-03 body and while it did not wildly change stability (turns out the channels for this body is smaller so the elastic was smaller) its no longer kicking/bowing randomly for me when moving the doll. I think its really worth getting for this model. I have the 04 (Xie Lian) and he seems fine with a stand and no wiring though given how the joints are designed on this body, it could use the wiring but not to the extent of the 03. The 05 body, imo probably doesn't need it, just a stand to prevent falls...its by far my best poser out of the three RD dolls I own

 

That was what I was thinking too, that they decided it was too much of a hassle to make a new head for him so they went with his old head.
Either that or they thought that the headpiece would make it less noticeable, since it’s big.
It would’ve bothered me, but it doesn’t cause I think it looks hilarious .

Do you own a Ringdoll 4 grown up body too? I think Cryan will come with that body.

 

I have Ringdoll 04, I'm not sure if they made a typo or just swapped the body for Xie Lian, but he comes on the 04 body. It's not great about posing, but not horrible- I've found that after you have him for a while, he gets a little more slack and easy to pose. But I'd certainly not trust any of my 04 bodies without a stand.

 

Xie Lian's body is cute, not too complex so his poses are lacking but it's nice overall, as @Alex Secord Designs said, you get used to it; I really really want Cryan but my sister says is pointless to get again this body, and the outfit(the pink one) it's something I can find in Ali Express (but Ringdoll's is cuter ), so the whole deal depends in the sculpt, the faceup, and headcap with mermaid's ears... his eye bags are cuteee....aghh I really shouldn't get him, I will get similar clothes for Dianxia and call it a day

@Veraverorum nah, they must be the same exact sculpt, I saw the pictures a long time ago and there is no apparent difference, the faceup may have to do with how much the teeth are shown, and the angle. Talking about the faceup, I'm into the pink version more because of the whole set, but the idol one is really nice too, he looks really spirited and that's something I like, youthful and cute, but the scar on his cheek doesn't make sense, for the concept I mean, it's not a wild-rogue or animalistic concept, he doesn't look like a rebellious character either so I don't know what's with the scar

 

Somehow I didn't even notice the scar he has, that definitely is a weird choice. He's probably one of my favorite of their characters just because of how sweet he looks, but all of the characters I'm looking to make need a more stern look and/or need to be on a larger body, and since they don't do body swaps even for basic dolls (which is fair), I'd end up with an extra body that would probably be a pain to sell off.

 

The scar is an odd detail on that fullset tbh
I do prefer the original one too though. It looks softer, sweeter.
Too bad that they don't sell the heads alone.

My bad, Xie Lian is not an 02, he's an 04! let me edit that. The one I don't have it the 02 body.

It might be worth looking into as I do experience his joints popping off in weird angles (including the hip joint. I doesn't make him kicky in an undesirable way just takes a lot of adjustments to align the joints when posing)..iirc I have not tried getting him in extreme poses but I do feel that wiring may limit that a bit at the hip but nothing that should compromise your experience with Cryan. It helps a lot that this body is way lighter than the 03

And congrats on getting Cryan! He's such a pretty sculpt, I originally planned on getting him if I didn't get my hands on Xie Lian

 

I think I will buy the wiring. I am actually planning to get Morin on the teenager 3 body and Cryan SP on grown 4 body
I love the look of both.
Thank you for helping me with my decision about the wire, it sounds that both bodies will profit from wiring.

 

Oh yeah, the joints popping is an issue. The upper thigh joint is my biggest issue, I look at him the wrong way and he dislocates his leg. I'm glad he has it for poseability, but it's a bit of a pain in the ass. Not sure if Hua Cheng's joints pop less because of how big and heavy he is (maybe it keeps him in place?) but the RGM5 does feel a little better constructed because it doesn't pop so much.

the 05 body is a lot less segmented and I think the joint is better designed...idk how to explain it but it definitely feels much more stable.. I always manage to pop off Xie Lian's knee and hips especially coming from a sitting pose its got a life of its own lmaoooo
