Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Sorry for the double post, but is Guo Jia getting discontinued? He's the doll I want for a character I plan to make into a doll eventually, but I don't really have the money to buy him right now. I may be totally misguided, but the way he was on the 50% off listing like Cryan worried me, haha.

 

I think only his full set was being discontinued, but not the sculpt itself if i understand correctly.

 

That's reassuring! I don't want his full set, I just need his sculpt, haha. Too bad I don't currently have the extra money, because now that he's 50% off it would be a good time to buy! They have those big sales a few times a year though, so I'll probably wait for the Christmas one for those big sales. That may change if I can't hold myself back from the new Xie Lian, though...

On the subject of Xie Lian, I finally got most of the way moved into my new place, and set up my dolls! Now with this bigger display area, all four can stand next to their respective display sections instead of Giyuu and Zenitsu being stuck sitting on my cramped desk. Giyuu and Zenitsu got new mohair wigs yesterday that I commissioned to match their hairstyles more closely, but I'm not too sure about them yet... I'm not a big fan of how matte they look, even though I knew that was how mohair works beforehand. I wish there was a material that was both shiny and defies gravity to do those anime hairstyles.

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Luckily, even though the shelves are mostly glass, the top and bottom are metal so those can hold the weight of four 1/3 BJDs and books.

 

Mohair is a natural protein fiber and can be treated with human hair products (like this, for example) if the dullness really bothers you, but you'll want to apply the stuff before you put it on your doll (and make sure it's completely dry first)

 

Can i ask where you got the shelves from? I've been meaning to do something about the shelves i have since one is old and breaking and another is those plastic utility shelves usually in garages xD

They're the Vittsjo shelves from Ikea! These here are three separate pieces that are put together- two of the double shelves, and one of the half height double shelves. I like them quite a bit, the basic shelves fit my 1/6 scale figures with no issue, as well as two layers of books (one with Daiso shelf risers put on their highest setting). They're a bit of a pain in the ass to put together though, as for the wood top and bottom, you have to make the holes for the screws yourself. Not an issue if you have a drill, but if you don't, it can be annoying.

 

Ah dang, there's not an ikea near me and they don't ship here. I'll have to look out for something similar!

Right? I keep telling myself that I have one Xie Lian, I don't need two... maybe I'll get him someday, sigh.

Seriously! I want them to say something that makes me no longer want him. Or at least give a price point so I can stop trying to justify it in my head. I could see him going two ways- either being ultra exclusive with a limited count and/or very limited order period, or Ringdoll releasing him broadly and him selling as much as Hua Cheng, if not more. Hoping for the latter because that would make it easier to get him later.

 

Yeah i could see him being limited run, especially since it's been such a quick announcement to release for him. But it could also be a longer run and he sells a lot :/ i just want to know how much he is and more specifics about the doll itself so i can talk myself out of wanting him so much. I really do like this one's faceup a LOT and that's the part that's bothering me the most i think xD

 

Yeah, his faceup is so pretty! I love the makeup on him. I also love the hair accessories. I have to force myself not to look at him, because I know I don't have the budget for him right now. The FOMO really does hit hard. The only thing that would stop me from wanting him is if he's on the RGM-5 body, because he'd be out of scale with the rest of my dolls.

 

Randomly, I'm sure this has been answered before, but has anyone had luck finding alternate clothes for Hua Cheng? He's sooo tall and broad that other clothes I have for my 70cm doll make him look like he's wearing too small clothes. And yet on the flipside, he doesn't seem to be quite as wide as my 75cm doll, so those clothes don't work either.
