Sacramento KCRA Channel 3 ABJD Story [ON AIR NOV.15th]

Sep 7, 2007

    1. I got to see the segment on youtube not too long ago. It was pretty good a little downing with its an obession like they keep saying and I wish they had mention some more companys besides volks but I guess with the store being so close and volk being one of the bigger names I am not suprized. Still It was not too bad and I think it kinda showed a little into the world of ABJD.

    2. Personally, I thought it was more to the effect of "Just wait until you go to sleep tonight, lady...."

    3. LOL Yah, i too saw that, and Unseelie Queen and i BOTH were like "OMG, did she just TEAR that poor doll's wig off on national television?? The only thing she could have done worse was pick the poor thing up and slam her back down like some kind of cheap barbie! :(

The segment itself was kinda cool. I'm glad they put a stop to the nasty report. That woulda ticked me off. There was a british news thing once that i saw on youtube, where this british guy suggested that the BJD community was a cult, and then tried to make up for it later by saying "But if it is, it's one of the cuter cults"...:o

    4. when she ripped the wig off i was like O.O . . . . .
a cult?? where can i find this vid on youtube? xD i wanna watch it. . .

there is the link...it's an interesting article, but he blows it all out of the water, by hinting that it is a cult, and then says it's one of the cuter cults...and his singing is ATROCIOUS

The KCRA report on youtube. I have to say... it's your generic news report. Being a member of the doll world, and of the furry world, I'm always looking at these news reports and specials. Really, it's something different to everyone in their own fandom. You can't say one thing is wrong while the other is right. Some things everyone can agree on, but there is always a grey area. For me, dolls are not an obsessive hobby where I buy and sell constantly. In fact, I have probably spent only $400 on my 2 dolls combined. The news report leads people to believe that no matter what you get, expect $500+, which is obviously not the case.

And about ripping the wig off. Well, yea. The news probably bought or borrowed that doll for just this segment. Do you think they honestly care? I bet you they probably don't care for the dolls nearly half as much as any of us do.

All in all. It's just newscasting. I'm probably just jaded, but it doesn't bother me all too much at all.

    7. I'm curious though, who's doll was the cute one in the silver armor with the sword??? She is LOVE :D!

    8. Ahhh. When she pulled off Lennix wig, I was totally angry.

Apparently then pull off her rubber band, and threw it away. But she is alright, now that she is away from Pamela Wu. Lolz.

But for comicbookartistboi, I'm pretty sure thats a Volks doll. Hmm. I can't remember what he said it was though. I'll try to find out. :o

    9. I'm kind of amused by the idea they suggest that Japan's population is shrinking because they have dolls instead of children.

    10. That's exactly what I thought when I heard it. The KCRA was like every news reports, but this one had very ridiculous remarks :doh

    11. That's a Volks Kurumi! The cutest most hotly fought for doll EVER!:fangirl:

I know because I managed to get one...

    12. Ah yes, and she belongs to Lizzegirl's husband :D

    13. That would be Jonathan Ross

To be honest just about anything he says should be taken with a pinch of salt and a bit of humour. I actually like the segment he did on BJDs, you have to remember that he's only looking at Volks though and if you take a step back and look at it as someone outside the hobby, naming ceremonies? a guy with a room jam packed with them? Another guy talking about his kids characters? Of course it's going to look a little cultish, I don't think thats anything to get offended at.

As for this report... it was nothing special, interesting enough but very scant on details beyond 'zomg expensive'

    14. Thats very true. Although Volks is considered to be the "industry leader", i'd say that Luts is quickly catching up in popularity. whenever you see polls anymore of what dolls people own, it's nearly a 50/50 split of volks and Luts. LOL I just wish Luts would finally come around and put a showroom in the US!

    15. It was decent at best.

But it did make me want to go to the LA VOLKS store.XD

    16. i watched the same report a few weeks back and when i watched it again i realized he said that. O_O i was a little wtf, is that really possible?

i have to admit though, watching some of the news broadcasts on BJDs can be very interesting, there is another one on youtube about the Volks convention in tokyo, it's pretty cool.

      http://youtube.com/watch?v=EkXODboqQms

by the way is this show on KCRA going to be on going? i wasn't sure from the
      first post.

    17. On going? It was just a little segment to show people some stuff bout BJDs. I'm pretty sure it isn't gonna be anymore than that, unless alot of people are interested in it.

    18. Eh. The piece was all right - I didn't mind it, especially not for a non-in-depth sort of spot. There were a couple of word choice issues that I heard, particularly the one about Volks' "refusal" to speak on their profits. But aside from that, it wasn't bad. :)

The promo spot, however - yellow journalism to the core. xD; Funny as hell, though.

    19. Can someone show me the link to the vid where the wig gets ripped off? Is that the news segment that this thread is about?

    20. o ok, sorry i got confused and thought that there were going to do soemthing about BJDs each week. O_O my bad.

Somnambulist: this is the version i watched :
